Days off

Kelsey, on February 11, 2020 at 5:08 PM Posted in Planning 0 15

So I am trying to figure out what days to take off for the wedding. The best man and his wife are coming up to visit the week of, for possibly a week. I need to put in my days off soon because my boss likes them early and doesn't want anyone to double up because we are a small office. My office is invited to the wedding so they all know I will be taking off for a few days. But my question is should I be nice and not take off the Tuesday before the wedding, best man will be here by then. But that is the first day of school and one girl has her son starting kindergarten this year; so I'm considering working Tuesday just so she can take off early if she wanted. I'm also the one who never takes days off of work, while my co-workers take a lot of time off. I have a build up of over 40 hours in vacation that is going to roll over in May. Help should I be nice or should I take off? I am leaning towards being nice, but I also want to spend time with my FH's best man and his wife since we have actually never met before and probably won't be until the wedding.

Is it possible for you to take a half day on Tuesday, like you could leave after lunch, and your coworker can take off the morning so she can drop her son off at school?

Maybe that's a good idea. I know they week before I will be either leaving early or coming in late 1 day so my FH and I can go to the courthouse to get the license.

Like Gen said, a half day would be a great compromise if you're able to do that! It'll give you time to spend time with them and get last minute things done before the wedding. I'm getting married on Leap Day and will be taking off 2/27-3/10 for the wedding/honeymoon! I'm just taking off 2 days before the wedding since I'll be gone for over a week after the wedding. I could've taken more, but I wanted to save a good amount of vacation for the rest of the year.

Thanks! We doing a mini-moon about a month after the wedding so I will be just taking a day off for that. But with a lot out of town friends and family coming into town I want to have time with people. I might talk to my co-worker to see what she is thinking too since we are friends outside of work too.

Yeah I think that’s a perfect middle ground, and you can still meet up with them for a late lunch and the afternoon, you’d just miss the morning

Yeah my boss probably would tell me to leave as it is, that's just how she is. But a half day may be the perfect solution.

I’d definitely talk to your coworker about it too to make sure she actually wants to take the morning off, maybe she’s dropping him off before work or something anyway and doesn’t intend to take off at all?

Good plan, yeah definitely make sure you get the other days! Then if you end up doing all or part of Tuesday it’s a bonus

Kelsey it’s ALL ABOUT YOU! Take off. I’m a practice administrator and I can appreciate your dedication, however you’re going to have so much to do and going on that week of her head will be swirling. The office will be just fine. He has a head up get a temp!

I will personally be working until the Wednesday morning before our wedding, at the latest. We are driving to the location on Thursday morning and setting up the Bridal party house and holding a small welcome dinner that night. Rehearsal is on Friday evening and wedding on Saturday evening. I really do not think it is necessary for you to take off Tuesday unless your wedding is Friday or if it is a destination wedding. Also, how much time are you taking off on the back end? Are you going on a honeymoon or mini moon right away? If I were leaving the following week for awhile I would for sure not take off the Tuesday before as well but that's my two cent's.

I'm taking the monday after off. We aren't doing a big honeymoon. We will be going on a long weekend for a mini moon about a month after the wedding. So I only need 1 day off. As I said I also have a lot of time build up to. The 40 hours above doesnt include the other 3 weeks I will be getting in May.

Gotcha. Well do what you feel is best by you and your employer. I don't work a 5 day a week job nor do I ever have to deal with management so it's a little different. I would be bored out of my mind if I took off almost the whole week prior.
