A gem in the heart of Portland

O'Maine is definitely not your traditional wedding venue and I mean that in the best way possible. The space has a cool, industrial look that still feels warm and inviting. The ability to really make the space your own throughout the weekend is a ton of fun and gives you a blank canvas to make it exactly what you were thinking. The indoor/outdoor nature gave people plenty of options to hang out and allowed us to separate the different phases of the day. The location was fantastic right in the heart of Portland with so many hotels, Airbnbs and bars/restaurants right near the venue. Ian and Rory were incredible throughout the planning phase, quickly answering questions and adjusting to our constantly changing plans with Ian even giving us a virtual tour of the venue before we could see it in person. Ian was also amazing throughout the weekend helping us with setup and learning the intricacies of the space. We highly recommend booking this gem that us and our guests both loved.

HIGHLY recommend for a warm, rustic, industrial vibe

We would VERY highly recommend O’Maine Studios to anyone looking for a venue in Portland (ME) with a warm, industrial vibe. We got married there in November, on a chilly, sunny day. O’Maine is beautiful, hip, modern, and rustic but with a lot of character. It fit our vibe completely and had a very warm aesthetic inside that balanced out the chilly November temperatures. We rented the entire venue for the whole weekend, which made it super easy to do our rehearsal dinner right there Friday night. We were also able to load a bunch of our wedding items and decorations in during the day on Friday so that Saturday was not too hectic for us or our coordinators! We also hosted a casual breakfast for our friends and family on the morning after the wedding, which gave us more time to spend with them without having to rent another venue for this type of gathering.
Ian and Rory were extremely easy-going and fun to work with. We had lots of questions leading up to our day, and they were responsive. They were kind enough to let us know of a wedding happening in the Fall months (about a year before our scheduled date) so that we could see the space completely outfitted for a Fall wedding. They were also flexible and accommodating - Ian was there whenever we needed him. We had some elements from the reception and ceremony that needed to be dropped off earlier than when we booked the space and they were accommodating. Even though we had full control of the venue throughout the weekend, Ian always made sure everything was locked up and secured at the end of the evening on Friday & Saturday, which gave us extra peace of mind.
The space is just beautiful! The farm tables we rented from O’Maine were beautiful and we received so many compliments on them. There are lights made of driftwood and string lights that had many of our guests asking where they could purchase lights like that. The spaces that comprise O’Maine flow into each other nicely, but also break up the space, allowing you to completely utilize the full venue. We used the beautiful backyard/patio area for our ceremony.
We used the largest space for dancing, dinner, the bar, and guest & head tables. Then, we used the kitchen area for our caterer to set up and serve the buffet dinner and desserts. We also used the Gathering Room, a beautiful room in the back area, as a gathering space for our wedding party. This space was perfect to take a breather from the reception and also to store important items that the wedding party needed.
We were looking for something that had an industrial vibe and came with lots of character, but that we could also infuse our own style into it. We found that and more at O’Maine Studios!

    Perfect Venue

We found O'Maine Studios after realizing our original venue was too small. And I'm so glad we made the switch! The venue is perfect if you are looking for something a little more industrial and the fact that it has a full commercial kitchen made it easy for our caterer. We rented the parking lot and I would highly recommend doing that. It made it so much easier for our guests and vendors! It was the perfect place for us!

    Great venue!

    The good:
The space is beautiful. Perfect for our wedding size of 86 people. Space comes with bar, cool vintage furniture, lots of decorative lights, making it really inexpensive to have a decorated looking venue. The tables they have there are also fantastic. We used 7 of them to seat 86, but I can't imagine having more than that in the layout. The outdoor space is great for people to hang outside and cool off if your wedding is in the summer. They also have 75 extra chairs you can use free of charge for the ceremony which was a big plus. Location is right downtown so easy to find parking and walk to everything before or after the event.

    The bad:
The space gets HOT. The temperature outside was 87, but even during our 5pm ceremony it felt like 100 inside. I rented two industrial size fans the morning of our wedding and I am so thankful that I did. The venue does not have air conditioning.

    The ugly:
The kitchen. Our catering company was about an hour behind schedule for all of the food. I found out the next day that the kitchen was unsuitable for cooking when they arrived. We only rented the venue for one day, so when the catering company arrived to cook they had to spend a full hour deep cleaning the entire kitchen before they could begin their meal prep.

    Overall:
It's really an awesome venue. There is plenty of room to do the ceremony inside if it rains (it did on our day). Even knowing the heat situation & the kitchen situation I still wouldn’t have changed a thing. Hope this helps!

    Cool space but dirty

My son and daughter- in- law chose O’Maine Studios as the venue for their wedding weekend in June, 2023. The space is incredible with the different areas as options for specific parts of the wedding or reception. Unfortunately, it also was dirty and greasy.
    Some examples:
All the countertops were greasy and most of the available cookware and dishes were greasy, stained (that elbow grease removed) and/or had food remains on them.
The vent in the room we had the rehearsal dinner in had thick black dust (maybe mold?) on it and the wall of windows were dirty inside and out.
I had to ask an employee to pick food out of one of the trash cans, whose bottom was covered in black mold, before I could replace the trash bag.

I emailed a more detailed list to Mr. Strunk and the venue and did get a response from Alexis that said “We will have a team meeting this week to discuss what we can do better with your review and revamp our in-house check list.” I hope they do.

Most of my concerns would not take a lot of time, money, or elbow grease to correct if they were completed on a regular basis. It seems as if there is no list of cleaning in preparation for an event. If there is, it isn’t very comprehensive and/or the person responsible did not complete it.

It wasn’t until after the event that we saw the review of the venue that said a couple’s meal was late because the caterers spent an hour cleaning the kitchen before beginning work. I want a venue with the same standards that that caterer had.

This space is very cool, but the client should spend their time enjoying the event and not cleaning.

This venue was everything we wanted. Perfect! We loved the space and how we were able to do whatever we wanted to make it our wedding. We were incredibly happy with how this turned out.
*******HOWEVER, Rory, the owner/main contact hindered every part of the process. Had we not had a fantastic day of coordinator that went above and beyond as well as myself being very adamant this would have been nearly impossible to put together. He is a very nice guy but is so unorganized and aloof that several things went wrong even the day before the wedding. We were exceptionally organized and informed Rory of everything that was going to be happening but he still seemed to not know what was going on/our expectations. Additionally, he didn't show up 3 times when we had planned appointments with him to visit the studio.
That being said, our wedding was absolutely amazing and the space was great, everyone was in all of the spaces just as we had wanted. The tables we used were also provided by O'Maine, which was nice. We had 80 people and it was the perfect number. I wouldn't do too many more people if any more.

(I'll add photos once I have them back from the photographer)
