  The best wedding venue in the DMV

  In short, the Mandarin Oriental went above-and-beyond to execute a perfect wedding. The Mandarin shines in both experience and professionalism, leading off with the Director of Catering and Events, Michael Deltette. From Day 1, Michael and his team worked hard to ensure that our minds were at ease and that each of our requests (big and small) were addressed. On the actual day of our wedding, the entire hotel staff came together to ensure that from start to finish, nothing was overlooked. My wife and I highly recommend the Mandarin Oriental - you simply will not find a better venue in the DMV.

  amazing, more than I ever imagined

  The wedding, the organization of it, was absolutely flawless. Every big and small detail, things we thought about, forgot to consider, and things we could not have imagined that they might matter – Michael and his team were absolutely on top of it all. The treatment we got, the wonderful staff they have (running of a ship like this -- completely flawless), personalized approach, helping tailor our wedding to our personalities. We really got a royal treatment. The presidential suite was like being in the Versailles for a few days. The luxury, the details, the stunning views, and the set up for unforgettable wedding pictures. Michael was on to of every detail during the preparation process and the day of the wedding. The food was outstanding; the location is unmatched; it was an easy choice!

  5 Star Wedding Venue!

  Michael and the team at Mandarin Oriental DC are phenomenal! Everything is taken care of for you with efficiency and style. The hotel has plenty of luxury rooms for your guests to stay overnight so they don't have to travel after the wedding. As a photographer, it is so important to have a venue that understands weddings and handles all the logistics so the couple can enjoy their wedding day! Not only is the service 5 star but the hotel has plenty of stunning locations inside and out for gorgeous photo opportunities. I highly recommend hosting your wedding at the Mandarin Oriental DC so you can enjoy your wedding day!

  Best wedding ever!!

  Michael at the Mandarin was the reason we chose that venue! Working with him for about one year made us realize that we had made the perfect choice! There is attention given to every detail of service from valet greetings to turn down at night. The food is exceptional Every question one might have about their event is answered immediately. If I could, I would give Michael, The Mandarin, and everyone associated with the venue all 10s!!!

  Mandarin Oriental/Michael Deltette

  I can’t imagine a more perfect venue than the gorgeous Mandarin Oriental for my Daughter’s Wedding reception. Everything from the planning stages to the conclusion were nothing less than spectacular. Almost every guest commented to us that it was the best food they have ever had at a wedding reception and people gushed over the hotel and their staff. The best part of the Mandarin is with it you get Michael Deltette, Director of Catering and Events. From our first meeting with Michael, it was apparent that he truly listened to what my Daughter wanted and totally understood what her needs were and what was important to her. He guided us on every aspect of the planning and we always knew that he was keeping in mind what was important to us. He connected us with outside vendors, florists, photographers, hair stylists and limo services. When you mention Michael’s name, it is obvious he has total and complete respect in his field. Michael is like having a Guardian Angel in your corner. You know that you don’t have to worry about anything because before you can think it, he has it taken care of it. Michael is totally and completely exceptional and we would highly recommend the Mandarin Oriental and Michael.

  Fantastic Wedding & Weekend

  Michael Deltette (Director of Catering & Events) is very experienced and a delight to work with. He worked with Chef to create a superb menu for the reception and dinner. Our guests raved about how delicious all the food was. It's not always the case case when 300 meals are being served. The Grand Ballroom is a great venue for a large wedding. The ceremony in the Oriental Ballroom was beautiful. The staff at the hotel from the doormen, front desk staff to catering were all eager to please and provided excellent service to our guests and us throughout the weekend. The hotel is beautiful. The rooms are spacious, which our guests appreciated. The garden was a perfect spot for wedding photos; as was the circle in front of the hotel with the Capitol as a backdrop. We had brunch for approximately 200 people the next morning and that too was delicious. I highly recommend Mandarin Oriental, DC.

  Nothing but Amazing!

  Our experience with the Mandarin Oriental was truly wonderful. The minute we arrived to tour the venue we knew it was the perfect place for our wedding. Not only did the hotel exceed all of our expectations, but the event director Michael was one of the best benefits of the venue. His knowledge and connections in the wedding industry help make our wedding day perfect.

  5-Star! A+, First Class Service at Mandarin Oriental Hotel, DC

  My spouse and I felt so blessed to have our wedding hosted at Mandarin Oriental, DC. And we could not have asked for a better event coordinator, Michael Deltette (Director of Catering & Events) who was so "Ahhmaazzingg," I mean really, exceptionally AMAZING! I can’t imagine how my wedding would have been like without Michael there.
  
  Michael made us feel very important and always his priority from day one until the last hour of the event. Putting a wedding together was really stressful for us. But with Michael’s experience and professionalism, he just knew what to do to make everything seamless. He was always available to provide advice and recommendations when needed and he’s never pushy to anything that we’re uncomfortable doing--small details that some of us notice and are grateful for. Also, you can tell how much he cared for our event because it showed on little things that he did--like fixing my wife’s dress just before she walked into the wedding reception. Our wedding was small and intimate, but we truly believe that our event felt elegant because of people like Michael and his supportive team who took care of us in every step of the way.

  I would highly recommend Michael Deltette and the entire staff at Washington's Mandarin Oriental to any couple planning their wedding. I am so happy we had our New Year's Eve wedding there and am so grateful for Michael's expertise, exquisite taste and professionalism. Our guests were so impressed by everything about the Mandarin; in particular they thought the venue design was so elegant and that the food quality was superior. I also am thrilled with how upscale the service was.
  Pick the Mandarin- you will not be disappointed! It is hands down the best in town.

  My wife and I love Michael Deltette and the Mandarin Oriental

  After visiting over a dozen venues in Washington DC, we arrived at our final destination the Mandarin Oriental and were greeted by Michael Deltette (Director of Catering & Events). My wife and I instantly fell in love with the venue and Michael was the icing on the cake for us. His devotion to our big day was prioritized and let me tell you how much peace of mind that gives a Bride & Groom. There was never a single time where there was an unanswered question. As you can imagine the stress that comes along with wedding preparation this was very important to us. Complete 5 star service from beginning until end. As the day of the wedding approached it really allowed my Wife and I to focus on our big day. Once the day arrived, the Mandarin Oriental and Michael followed through with every promise. The way Michael handled every step of the way was exceptional. Just looking at him on his knees fixing my wife's dress before she walked into the reception showed me exactly how much he cared and the pride he took with his job. Most importantly he was never pushy and always made sure we were comfortable with every decision on our budget. I can't imagine there being someone in the business with his experience and work ethic. At least we weren't able to find anyone else when we took a look at the other venues. I highly recommend you considering the Mandarin Oriental as your venue, you will not be disappointed and it was money very well spent.

  One of the hardest things when planning a wedding is finding a that special venue. The Mandarin Oriental Washington D.C, is a perfect choice if you are looking for a simply beautiful wedding! As a planner, it is always such a delight to work with a venue who offers so many options, from their beautiful outdoor space for your ceremony and cocktails, gorgeous ballrooms for your reception and amazing food and service! Michael Deltette, the Director of Catering and his team completely exceeded my expectations of food, service and overall experience. They are professional, responsive and extremely helpful. I highly recommend meeting Michael and letting him show you around this magnificent hotel.

  Michael and the Mandarin staff were absolutely amazing to work with. Starting at the planning stage, he was always available to provide advice and give recommendations. He guided us throughout the process and was there all the way until the the event ended. He is there from start to finish and is always there to provide advice if asked.

  Great venue! We had our ceremony and cocktail hour outside in the courtyard and reception in the Oriental Ballroom. Great food, and both the courtyard and ballrooms are wonderful spaces. Our guests loved having everything in one place and loved the hotel and rooms as well! It's also walking distance to the new wharf which everyone enjoyed. Our original coordinator ended up leaving just a few weeks before our events began; however, Michael swooped in and ensured a wonderful, seamless transition. Everything from logistics to food and cocktails were managed flawlessly! We would definitely consider hosting another event at the Mandarin in the future.

  Exceeded all expectations

  Could not have asked for a better coordinator than Michael Deltette!! He was on top of every detail until the very end. I don’t know how I could have gone through the wedding planning process without him. I wish I could give higher than a 5 star rating he was that good! I feel sorry for anyone who doesn’t get married at the Mandarin Oriental and misses out on the pleasure of working with Michael on their special day.

Bret Freedman help turn all our visions into reality. Everyone took such great care and pride in the entire weekend. The food was delicious and the service was impecable.

  Extremely luxurious hotel to spend the first night as a married couple! When we told them we had just gotten married, we were upgraded to a large suite with monument views, very romantic!

  This rating is based solely on the quality of service provided by Michael Deltette. My sister and I came across this amazing venue took a tour with a previous employee and loved the initial space shown. There were some unusual restrictions, but we went with it, and my sister took her fiancee to see the space. He too also liked the location and space for the outdoor ceremony & cocktail hour. They moved forward with the booking. Long story short, the first person on board was really not in touch -- Michael saved the day, and went above and beyond to ensure my sister not only had an amazing day, but an amazing weekend at the Mandarin Oriental Hotel. From check-in to check-out. Ensuring all requests for accommodations were made for out of town family. Space for the bridal party to get ready and relax before the ceremony. It was perfect! The ceremony outside was absolutely breathtaking & cocktail hour was intimate. We truly enjoyed ourselves and Michael and his staff rocked it out the park! We had an amazing time as did the guests.   We are thrilled that we chose to have our wedding reception at the Mandarin Oriental, it is a great venue for a wedding. We quickly fell in love with the hotel and found that we were in good hands. Already when we arrived at the hotel before the wedding we were treated with great warmth and got lots of personal service.
  
  Because we were getting married we were upgraded to a lovely large suite with a wonderful river view and they made our stay very special with lots of little details. They also provided valuable contacts to truly skilled hair and makeup artists and florists.
  
  Everything was set up perfectly when we arrived from the ceremony and we felt that everyone took great care of us. The whole staff was very attentive and we felt they truly cared about us and wanted us to have the most beautiful and memorable wedding.
  
  The staff handled every detail with grace and professionalism and the food was absolutely amazing. The service at the hotel during our stay and at our wedding reception was impeccable.
  
  We had a great time that we will always be very grateful for, and we can’t recommend it more highly.

  Tha Mandarin Oriental was the most amazing location for our wedding reception. The garden was perfect for our cocktail hour, the level of service was outstanding, and the understated elegance was exactly what we were looking for.

  We had the best experience at the Mandarin Oriental hotel for our wedding on June 22nd. We knew when we first visited the location that the hotel was perfect for us. It had everything we could have imagined and more. The location of the hotel was ideal, the outside garden was perfect for a ceremony and the ballroom was exactly how it was named, Grand!
  
  We were truly thankful that Bret Freedman was easy going, friendly, and sooo helpful throughout the wedding planning process! Couldn't have done it without her! Additionally, the entire staff from our arrival to our departure was just amazing. We were greeted promptly, checked in smoothly, and the suite was perfect! The view of the garden where the ceremony took place just made it even more special! We received so many compliments from our guests on how attentive the staff was and everyone loved their dinner! The steak, mushroom risotto, and vegetables were cooked perfectly! The hor d'oeuvres were just amazing as well! I loved the mini lamb chops, that was my favorite!!

  The Mandarin Oriental is an amazing venue for a wedding. Not only is it one of the best hotels in DC, the staff at MO is extremely helpful and professional. Rachel and her team helped provide a flawless evening and really paid every attention to detail. As a bride, it is important to work with a vendor that you have confidence in to make your day go as planned. The MO gave me the freedom to enjoy my day, and the guests were thoroughly impressed with the service provided by this exceptional hotel.

  Overall, my experience with the Mandarin Oriental in DC as my ceremony and reception venue was an appalling one, although thankfully they redeemed themselves somewhat on the wedding day. I will break my review into 2 parts - i) service before and after the wedding; ii) day of wedding.
  
  i) Service before and after the wedding
  Overall: Disaster, would not recommend
  
  Quality of service: Disaster
  From the sales person to the event manager -- service fell way short of what I would expect of a 4 star hotel that is supposedly trying for its fifth Mobil star. Perhaps it is relative, but when one books a 4 star hotel, one expects 4 star service. In fact, sales and guest service at another hotel my guests stayed at was far superior.
  My fiance and I literally had to chase down the Mandarin staff to get them to perform their duties and they were extremely unresponsive in returning our phone calls/messages etc. A properly trained staff would have made the entire planning process effortless, while the Mandarin staff made even the simplest tasks very difficult to accomplish. Whether this was incompetency on their part - or simply because they chose to ignore our smaller wedding - whatever reason it was, it was wholly unacceptable.
  
  Responsiveness: Disaster
  As explained above, we got little to no response at each stage of the planning process with the Mandarin. Even post-wedding, it took them a month to send us an invoice and when we asked for an explanation of charges, it was made to seem like we had no right to enquire about their billing structure.
  
  Professionalism: Poor
  Professionalism is judged not only by the way you speak to clients, but also by the way staff accomplish their tasks. Judged by those standards, the professionalism of the Mandarin's sales and events staff is very low. In addition, the Mandarin event staff refused to make final decisions on many aspects of the event until just 2 weeks before. This added to our stress, and showed disorganization on the part of the Mandarin.
  
  Flexibility: Poor
  This is one area where in the end we got what we wanted - making the Mandarin appear flexible - but not after we had to fight tooth and nail to get even the simplest of requests through. For example, we were able to use different rooms for the ceremony and reception, but only after an extremely protracted and painful negotiation with the Mandarin on how to best use the space available, and how to design the layout of the table and chairs. The Mandarin wanted to give us a cookie cutter corporate function seating layout, and us asking for something different was obviously beyond the grasp of the event manager's imagination and capability. Only after pulling in our floral designer and the Mandarin's Director of Catering, was it is possible to arrange a more orginal seating arrangement.
  
  ii) Day of the Wedding
  Thank goodness that on the day of, the Mandarin pulled itself together and delivered - though not necessarily anything more than what we would have expected of a 4 star hotel. Still, banquet service was competent, food at the reception was very good with the exception of the dry and tasteless wedding cake provided.

Quite the opposite occured - the months of chasing down the Mandarin staff and begging them to do their work added a very high level of stress to the occasion. It was very unfortunate that this major vendor was the absolute worse of all the vendors I booked for my wedding.
