    Wonderful venue with fantastic options

We're really happy we decided to go with KCW. We decided to limit the size of our wedding to keep within state guidelines, and Kickapoo was happy to work with us. The pricing was fair, the food and drinks were excellent, and staff was happy to work with us on anything we asked.

Kickapoo Creek Winery is a beautiful venue with so many options!! Cindy, the wedding coordinator, was always more than happy to answer questions and assist in planning your big day. From the time we went out to see the winery to our wedding day we were in constant communication with Cindy and every single detail was exactly as discussed, our day could not have been more perfect. If you want a beautiful venue with a very helpful wedding coordinator Kickapoo Creek Winery should be your number 1 choice!!

    Kickapoo Creek Winery's reply:

Thank You So Much! You and your mother were so easy to work with, which makes my job easy and fun. You were a very beautiful bride. Your dress was a perfect choice for you. Also, I got a chance to see your wedding photos and they were AMAZING! They really captured how much you two are in love with each other. Best Wishes to you and Jason on your future together as Mr. & Mrs.

The venue was absolutely beautiful. The coordinators did an amazing job working with us. The food was the best we ever had at any wedding event. The whole day went as planned, and we couldn't have been happier with our experience. Thank you so much!

When looking for a wedding venue we wanted a place where we could have the ceremony and the reception in the same location. We also wanted an outdoor ceremony with an indoor back-up location. Kickapoo Creek Winery was the first place we toured and we fell in love with the grounds and the possibilities. One unique aspect that we hadn't thought about is that for the reception the winery builds in an appetizer hour prior to the official reception starting. We loved that idea, and it turned out to be something our guests really enjoyed. Cindy is great to work with, the food is delicious, and they help with centerpieces, etc. It was everything we had hoped for and more.

This venue was gorgeous! We had an amazing wedding. The food was delicious (I mean really delicious), the grounds were beautiful, the wine was great, and the staff were very helpful. We had the ceremony at the outdoor pavilion and the reception in the main building. I highly recommend taking the Grape Train out through the vineyard for pictures! We had so much fun!

I would book my reception venue here again if I had the choice! If you are looking for a classy, rustic wedding venue this is where you need to look. Cindy and Emily are very responsive and easy to work with. They allow you to create your reception space into the room of your dreams. The food was amazing and I had so many compliments on the facility, the food and the entire night in general. I actually did a lot of DIY work for the tables and centerpieces and they did ALL of the set up once I dropped everything off the week of! The only thing that I did not like was sharing the site with another bride's wedding which was booked within a month of my wedding due to an emergency however her day did not interfere with mine at all and the entire day went so smooth. I am thankful that there were no large issues that came up that night and that I was just able to have fun and dance on the dance floor all night!

    Kickapoo Creek Winery's reply:

Thank you so much Michelle. You were an amazing Bride to work with and glad you gave us the opportunity to be the venue for your special day. Wish you nothing but the best in your future as Mr. & Mrs.

Such a beautiful venue!! However, they have lots of rules, like the reception has to start right after the ceremony, they assume the ceremony will only be 30 minutes, you only get 5 hours for the reception, if you want more time it is a lot more money. They were pretty flexible with us since I live in Arizona, they spoke with my mom mainly. They included a menu item that isn't listed on their packet that they give you, they allowed us to substitute a coffee bar instead of meeting the 150 seat minimum. Emily did a great job meeting all of my demands!! There was some lack of communication between Emily and Cindy though. And they ended up booking an event the day before the wedding making it difficult to decorate. We were told that we couldn't decorate at all due to this, but come to find out we were able to decorate half of the reception the day before! Thank the lord!! Overall, this is a wonderful place to have your wedding! I loved the scenery and everything came together perfectly!!

We enjoyed working with Kickapoo Creek Winery. Cindy was very responsive, accommodating, and helpful the entire time! She even helped when we had issues with other vendors and gave suggestions with planning. Our wedding was almost 2 months ago and guests are still commenting on how delicious the food was. I would suggest this venue to anyone looking for great communication, convenience of hosting ceremony and reception in the same place, and catering.

We had a great time celebrating our wedding here. We really liked how we could have photos, ceremony, and reception all in once place. Our guests liked this as well, since majority were from out of town/out of country.

The only things, and these are minor that we were a bit bothered by were:

    1. Bugs - they were absolutely awful and had painful bites. They seemed to like flowers and white, which on a wedding is all over the place. We were completely swarmed by them and the wedding party looked like we were covered in chicken pox for the next week. Myself and the bridesmaids ended up having to take our dresses off to shake them out and wipe our bodies down to get rid of them and then redress for the reception. I know that bugs are a common occurrence with outdoor weddings, and this seemed to be a bad luck mix of heavy rain the night before and high humidity the day of. I would be prepared to bring more than enough bug spray with you. It would have been nice if they had had some on sight as well for what seemed to be an extreme/rare circumstance.

    2. Our ceremony was moved to the pavilion due to the ground being too soft from rain the night before. Still a pretty location, but we felt a bit awkward due to winery patrons peeking in and roaming about as guests were arriving. We understand the patio is still open, but it would have been nice to a little more privacy.

KCW is one of the nicest places in Central IL to have a wedding. There are so many options for the outdoor ceremony (lakes, vineyards, grasslands, etc.) and a beautiful banquet space. The fact that they make their own wine adds a nice little souvenir aspect to the whole place and a fun atmosphere before your wedding.

Quality of Service: Cindy (the coordinator) is really great about answering questions and being available to help you put things together. Their wait staff is very courteous and seemed happy to be there (always a plus)! Be careful, though - our vendors didn't get fed even though we paid for their meals and they were present!

Responsiveness: We got emails back from Cindy in less then 24 hours if we emailed her on a week day. Really great!

Professionalism: Everyone had a professional attitude, although when I spoke to a management figure about the vendors' meals, she gave me an excuse with no offer to try to fix it which bothered me. Even the tasting room staff is really great!

Value: They are a little more expensive than most (the food minimum is DEFINITELy higher than most Peoria venues), but you have to take into account that you get to have your ceremony/reception all in one place (no driving) and everything you could ever need is right there. It's about the ease of everything over the price.

Flexibility: We had started planning our wedding over a year in advance (March 2013, our wedding was August 2014), and were stuck with whatever date they had available since we really wanted this venue. That seems to be a theme everywhere, though, so no fault to KCW. Just know you have to plan over a year and a half in advance if you want a specific date.

Overall? This place was amazing and our guests had a great time there. Would definitely recommend.

My complaint with the food was when the head table was served our food, it was cold. By the time we sat down after doing some pictures in between the ceremony and reception our food was barely warm. Could have been the 10-15 minutes we took to get back to the table once it was served. However, if it WAS hot, which we would have expected it to be, it shouldn't have been cold like it was. We did not get any complaints from our guests though, so we assume theirs was warm.
My only other complaint would about the time allotment for the reception. Cindy and the other staff were very accommodating in light of our situation. They took us on last minute due to an issue with our initial venue choice. However, when we first signed the contract with them, we do not recall being told anything about the time for the reception having to be done by 10 pm due to city ordinance. We were only made aware of this the night before the wedding and were not too pleased about it. We had a lot of family and friends coming from out of town (other states) and did not like that they would only be able to stay until 10 pm. We understand that there are homes nearby and want to be mindful of their peace, however, many people particularly did not think the music was that audible from outside the pavilion. On that note, we felt our evening was cut shorter than we cared for.

    Kickapoo Creek Winery's reply:

We always try to provide the best for each and every wedding. I am sorry your food was not as hot as expected or should have been. We were able to accommodate your menu that you had chose from the other venue, but were challenged a little when the photography fell behind. We should have made adjustments with the Chef at that time.

We try to be a friendly neighbor, so that is why we require receptions to end by 10pm since we are in a neighborhood due to noise level. We have previously had complaints from neighbors when we allowed them to go later. That is why we put in our contract that is signed by the B/G, that all events must end by 10pm.

I know that we were not your first choice, but hope that since we were able to help you at the last minute, you still had a beautiful wedding. A wedding that will bring you memories of a lifetime.

Used KCW for wedding reception for 300 people...food was delicious, wont complain about that, but wait staff was careless, dropping tray of food for 12 people, giving adult meals to obvious children, so we came up many meals short for adults, have no idea what they did with children's meals that were not served, did not refill special coffee bar urns that we paid an extra $300 for, one of wait staff was moving mini cupcakes, donuts around on serving stand with no glove & eating as he was doing so, replacement meals for adults were not of quality we ordered & very cold, we asked to have warmed up, this never happened...at end of evening, we were asked how everything was, we mentioned about this meal situation & were told " hope these people were your 4th cousins, ha-ha"...did not appreciate this comment! Spoke to Cindy after about these problems (who was very easy to work with btw up to this point) & really got no more than lame excuses for these problems! Most of our guests were very satisfied, unaware of these problems, but I would probably have a problem with recommending this venue because of this...also, later we were told bartenders were rude, & did not tell people we had an "open bar", which we had paid for in our dinner package, for wine, draft beer & house liquors, instead running tabs for our guests! Just wonder how much extra they may have made off of that!

    Get everything in writing

The venue was very beautiful. But be ready to plan out every tiny detail and get everything in writing. We wanted our ceremony outside at the lake area, and when booking the venue we were told it would take approximately 30 minutes to transport our guests to the lake area. Three weeks before the wedding, the wedding coordinator said it would actually take over 2 hours to transport our guests, and that they typically don't host large weddings at that area for that reason. This caused a lot of last minute stress for me and resulted in a lot of passive aggressiveness from the venue, but we eventually came to a solution. I provided a detailed schedule for the ceremony and reception, and was told it was fine. The day of the wedding, the coordinator was nowhere to be found. I did not see or speak to her once all day. For cocktail hour, the hors d'oeuvres were placed on a small table in the middle of the dance floor, for our 240 guests to crowd around and serve themselves. Obviously, a very long line formed and people kept bumping into our cake, which was set up right next to the food table. Many guests complimented the food, but mine was terribly overcooked and dried out. Despite being given a schedule, dinner was served late. My husband had to ask them to start pouring champagne for toasts because it was time for speeches. They did not dim the lights for our first dance, so it felt like we were dancing in a cafeteria. It was summer with a 240-guest party, and the overhead fans were not turned on. There were a lot of small issues that I would expect a competent venue and coordinator to be able to handle, but that was not the case for me. If you book here, be sure to get everything in writing. I also recommend you hire your own day-of coordinator because the one employed by the venue seemed like she had never been to a wedding before.

The winery is beautiful and everything looked great. The food was also delicious. However, there are some issues. First of all, if you use their grape train, make sure you use it in the allotted time scheduled. We were running about 20 minutes late and the unpleasant guy driving the grape train refused to go back and pick up the groom and groomsmen, so the wedding coordinator had to bring them on a golf cart. Ridiculous considering how expensive this venue is for every little thing. I also made a mistake in having dinner start at 7:30; they started the salads at 7:30 and it was after 8:15 by the time I got my actual dinner. This cut short the music performance which was disappointing. They also kept trying to take my full plate of food and my maid of honor was literally guarding it, since I kept getting up to talk to people. Eventually she got up, and my food was gone. Lastly, they didn't keep people out of the main reception area before the ceremony and several people saw me beforehand, which was odd. I'm not sure why they didn't just lock the doors right away. And we didn't end up doing introductions because we were already inside during the cocktails, and it didn't seem like it would make sense to have us leave and comeback. The wedding coordinator people aren't really helpful in facilitating the flow of anything.

    Kickapoo Creek Winery's reply:

I am sorry we did not give you everything you had expected on your wedding day. We always try to give 100% to every wedding from start to finish. The grape train is sometimes a challenge. When the guest arrive, we start taking them to the ceremony site. That can take extra time if the guest don't arrive until a short time prior to ceremony start time. In order to help keep things moving, we will take some out on the Polaris. Our policy is to lock the front door and we put a sign in the hallway. It is a huge challenge because the bridal party, family, and vendors will go in and out and not lock it behind them.

Again, I am sorry your day was not as you expected it to be. We always appreciate input so we can make it better.

Kickapoo Creek Winery was a dream come true place to hold our ceremony & reception. The grounds are beautiful, the reception hall is fantastic, the food is great and the wine is even better! As this was our 2nd marriage, we wanted to keep it smaller (under 100), and cost effective. Here's the catch that they don't really tell you - there are many many many hidden costs that they won't talk about with you - you just need to make sure to read every single page in the teeny tiny fine print. Ceremony fee $$, Hall fee $$, rent chairs fee $$, and the food minimum fee! Then add in the fact that they charge an extra $5/bottle of wine to have at your reception (vs the cost if you bought it at their tasting room 10 steps down the hall). They don't share that with you until right before your wedding. The banquet staff that we signed on with 18 months before our wedding, the ones that said they would "work with our smaller wedding", yeah, they left 6 months before our wedding. The owners son and daughter in law have taken over and our ready to nickle & dime you to death! What we thought we be a very cost effective wedding, ended up costing us almost double what we were planning on. It was a beautiful wedding, but the overall cost of it was a big let down.
