Gladstone's was a fun, easy-going place for a smaller wedding. Their event planners, Mara and Melissa, were extremely easy to work with, professional and understanding. The food was lovely, the room is very pleasant, all the vendors they suggested were topnotch, and the wedding worked out wonderfully. Their beach is perfect if considering a beach venue for the wedding. I would recommend them to anyone looking for a relaxed and beautiful smaller wedding.Gladstone's was a fun, easy-going place for a smaller wedding. We recently had our wedding and reception at Gladstones and couldn't have asked for a better venue, food or staff. From the first time we spoke with Mara she was extremely helpful and acted genuinly interested in our business unlike other venues in Malibu. I live out of state therefore it was difficult to schedule our tastings during the week. Although Gladstones is busy on the weekends she made an exception for us each time on a Saturday. The venue is on the casual side, which is what we wanted, but the food is top notch, so much so it was not easy to choose what foods we wanted for each course. When Mara was not available we spoke with Melanie who was just as helpful. We changed our minds countless times and through the whole process Mara and Melanie were extremely patient and coached us on our menu and alcohol, and how to get the most for our money. The day of our wedding was hectic as most are but the professionalism of these ladies helped everything go smoothly in the end. Jason the bartender was very engaging and could not have done a better job. We highly recommend him as well. With Gladstones we paid a very reasonable sum with a wedding coordinator team at no extra charge. Great views, great food, great venue and great staff. We recently held a wedding rehearsal dinner at Gladstone's with Mara Girvin as our event coordinator. Mara was absolutely amazing from the first moment of meeting. She worked hand-in-hand with us to choose the best possible menu for our group, made sure we had samples of the food and wine, and was consistently patient with our schedule since we were from out-of-town and only available on certain days. When the day of the dinner arrived and our slide show did not work, she was available late on a Saturday night to find the A/V person who could fix the program, a success due to her efforts. A late elderly guest showed up at the time of the scheduled dinner, and without blinking an eye, Mara had a place set and an unordered meal ready. Completely professional, without a hint of frustration or irritation(!), Mara is that rare gem of coordinators that you can only pray to find, one who understands the pressures of a wedding venue and who truly cares about her clients. Our many, many thanks for her kindnesses, as well as her excellence! Our additional thanks to the entire Gladstones' crew who were amazing at the bar, as servers, and who helped with anything that had to be carried from a car. Our kudos to the chef--the food was perfect! A beautiful space with a private beach for the perfect SoCal wedding, a staff with Four Seasons level service and food and drinks that people can enjoy and dare I say, remember. That is what you get when you choose to have your wedding and reception at Gladstones! Mara and Melanie took care of me beyond what anyone would believe. The chances of rain on a summer day in Malibu are slim but of course, it just had to rain (and rain isn't the word for it as it was hurricane-ish) on our wedding day. Mara and Melanie and our other vendors all came together and moved our vision of our beautiful wedding from the sandy beach to their private indoor space with a wraparound view of the Pacific. It was perfect. Intimate and special and every detail was exactly how we'd planned but just in a different space altogether. For a bride on her wedding to not feel stressed as it poured rain speaks volumes as to the hands we were in. We selected Gladstones for our wedding rehearsal dinner because we wanted a venue that would symbolize iconic California, to welcome our out of state guests to the California we love...our list was short, but demanding...a famous beachfront property that had easy access, delicious food, warm, inviting, casual atmosphere and a venue staff that was helpful, responsive and committed to the success of our evening. We found all that and more at Gladstones...From the minute that we started working with Mara Garvin, to every second throughout the evening working with event coordinator Monica Racz, the Gladstones staff was first rate, giving me the ability to relax and relish this very special evening celebrating my son and his bride-to-be. Gladstones exceeded our expectations in every way! My only disappointment was that the evening was over far too quickly! I could not have asked for a more perfect wedding venue, Mara Girvin was the coordinator at Gladstones. She provided us with a list of vendors that made our wedding day perfect...Mostly McCann Florist!!!!!
Brett Elliot was our DJ at Gladstones and he provided lighting and microphones on the beach and inside. The sound quality was incredible! He entertained the guests and played fun music everyone could dance to.
Mara worked with our budget and even gave us her personal contact so we could reach out to her with any questions. She took time with us and even spoke with our vendors to ensure a flawless execution of the timeline. I highly suggest Gladstones as a wedding venue.I could not have asked for a more perfect wedding venue, Mara Girvin was the coordinator at Gladstones. We recently had our wedding at Gladstone's Malibu on August 2nd 2014. First off, let me say that I was absolutely blown away with how amazing our wedding turned out. Mara Girvin, our wedding coordinator was beyond amazing from day 1. She worked closely with us and always made us feel confident during the planning process. The food and service received so many compliments from our guests, but if you have ever been to Gladstone's you'd expect no less. Our dream beach wedding came was more than a dream come true. I recommend this venue to anyone!
Also, Marcia McCann was our Florist who did a beautiful job. Her work had everyone in awe. She's very familiar with this venue and she's amazing at creating your "vision" at a great price!We recently had our wedding at Gladstone's Malibu on August 2nd 2014. We were looking for a venue in near Pepperdine Malibu that would meet our needs and budget. Gladstone's (Mara) did an amazing job handling it all from A-Z. I was out of the country for 6 months prior to the wedding and they took care of all the little details that drive brides crazy, all we had to do was choose the menu and show up. We had our picture taken on the beach and then we walked right up the stairs and joined our guests for our reception, it was fun. My Fiance and I decided to elope after finding out we were pregnant. The Director of Events and Catering, Mara Girvin was amazing! She helped me to put everything together in a very small amount of time. She helped with all the details and responded quickly to my emails. It was hard to get anyone in the catering department on the phone, but since I like everything in writing, emails worked better for me. Mara even went above and beyond helping me get a beach permit for the wedding in record time! The venue was great, the service during the event was great and everyone loved the food. This doesn't have to do with my wedding day or what was provided for us that day-and that day only. My wedding at Gladstone's was perfect BUT the people we had to work with were NOT. Melanie was so hard to get in touch with from the beginning. We had an awesome food tasting and we were so excited to have it here and unfortunately they did not do a good job. Luckily they did some renovations as well before hand. This is why I rated a 4 for the overall quality of service because the staff working that night was friendly and the food and restaurant were great that day. All of that being said- they have a overall rating from me at a 1.6 because this establishment is full of lying, stealing people. We left my one of a kind macrame 4X4 foot flowers that were hanging from the ceiling with lights on them because Melanie told us we would be able to pick them up the following week because they didn't have anyone to take them down the night of my wedding. That next week we had a death in the family and picking up those flowers was postponed and because of that and we didn't have the chance to call them until a full week and a half later (I wish this wasn't the case but life happens). When we called we were told that a dresser we used to decorate and all 10 or so of the hanging flowers were THROWN AWAY. The very next day we got a call saying they "found" the dresser by the dumpster and that they don't know who but someone "threw away" my 4x4 FOOT wire macrame flowers. I think we all know what happened here and this was just all a bunch of lies to cover up theft from their employees. Who wouldn't want some beautiful decor like my macrame flowers? This issue has still not been compensated for and the restaurant did nothing to try to track them down with them employees- we were offered a gift card for these flowers that were worth far more than $3,000.
