The most unique venue
If you are looking for a unique venue with a modern aesthetic that everyone will remember for years to come, then look no further. Since Common House is a full time club house/restaurant it comes with amenities you do not even think of until you look at your budget. It is beautifully decorated, has impeccable food, and with staff that understands attention to detail. My husband and I were worried about the budget and let me tell you that you get the most out of your money by booking this venue. On top of that, I had several guests with severe dietary restrictions and they were more than accommodating. I even followed up with those guests, and none of them had issues the days after the wedding. It's something only a professional kitchen can offer which they are. Our friends and family had the most memorable time (1 month after our wedding and we are still hearing how amazing our wedding was), and my husband and I cannot recommend it enough. If you are looking for a unique venue with a modern aesthetic that everyone will remember for years to come, then look no further. ANDI! You and Nick are going to make us blush with all these compliments! Our whole team adored hosting you, your family, and friends; it was our pleasure to be a part of your special day, truly! We will pass along your compliments to our Chef as well, because we try our hardest to go out of our way not just for our special couples, but every guest who walks through our doors. So glad to hear that dietary restrictions didn't put a damper on anyones fun that day! Congratulations you love birds, and don't mind us as we skip off into the sunset as well with these kind words you shared :) -

So great for our winter wedding
Common House did an excellent job for our winter wedding of about 60 folks. The venue itself is absolutely beautiful and they worked closely with us to personalize the day so that it reflected who we are and some of our creative ideas. The venue has the perfect mix of a fun dance floor area as well as several lounge spots for folks who need a breather. Many guests came up to us to rave about the food and how the entire staff were amazing. Dalton as the event lead brought so much positivity and enthusiasm, answering many of our questions and coming up with ideas on how to make the event even more great. He prevented us from any stress. The actual staff day-of were also wonderful and many of our guests came up to us to rave about everyone from servers to bartenders. Highly recommend Common House for your events! Truly incredible and affordable venue!
My (new) wife and I just had out reception at Common House and it was INCREDIBLE! From the very first meeting to clearing out at the end of the night, Common House was absolutely incredible in every respect and I HIGHLY suggest taking a look at them if you're interested in hosting a wedding reception, or any similar gathering!
To start, Shannon Kontalonis (the Director of Private Events) was an absolute delight. She was always highly organized, super kind, and incredibly helpful. She was always available for any questions and details, and made sure that every random small detail we wanted, like a special plate of pigs in a blanket for my father, came to be exactly as we had hoped for. She even stopped by to say hi when we had brunch there on her day off! And, very importantly, she was attentive to our guests dietary needs and made sure that everything was well handled and prepared so that all of our guests could enjoy themselves.
Then, the night itself! Common House is an incredible, beautiful space. We rented the whole club for a Sunday and it was really amazing. It's a truly unique and lovely venue. Dalton was the manager on duty, and did an excellent job making sure everything ran perfectly on the day of. We had cocktail hour on the second floor, which has tons of excellent seating, and then dinner on the first floor (Vinegar Hall), which was perfect for our 70 guest reception. And the dinner, wow! It was absolutely delicious, and all our guests raved about how good it was! Common House also rolled with a non-standard table arrangement we wanted without any issues at all. Then it was back upstairs for dancing, where they have a great little dance floor with the perfect setup area for a DJ, and the aforementioned great seating for guests to relax when not dancing! Then lastly they have a gorgeous roof area, which was perfect for guests looking for a quiet place to chill and talk. Truly incredible and unique, and more than one guest told me they thought it was "the perfect venue"!
And to add to all of this, I have to say that Common House was also one of the most affordable venues out of the dozen we looked at in the area! For a Sunday wedding, to be specific. Seriously, it was the second lowest venue fee of all the places we visited, and was only about $200 above the cheapest! Add to that the very reasonable food and beverage minimum (which we handily met with dinner alone) and the fact that the in-house kitchen was very affordable, especially given the incredible food and excellent bartending, this is truly an amazing deal on top of being an incredible venue with fantastic staff.
Overall, I can confidently say that going with Common House was one of the best decisions we made for our wedding. I highly, highly recommend looking into them for your event, especially if it's on a Sunday! Common House Review
My husband and I had our pre-wedding rehearsal event at Common House Charlottesville. The staff was not only friendly, but communicative, highly professional, supportive, and readily available to answer any of our questions throughout the planning process. Shannon and Dalton were stellar in helping us put together the perfect event before our big day.
We cannot say enough good things about the beauty of the Common House space, the perfectly made drinks, and the high quality food options.
Do yourself a favor and book Common House for any group events you might be planning to host in Charlottesville. Welcome Drinks Wedding Weekend
Where do I begin.......I will start with Melanie with Details and Lace, our chosen wedding planner.
When searching for a venue to host a Welcome Drinks event for our daughter’s wedding Melanie suggested Common House/Charlottesville. I am SO glad she did. Shannon (Director of Private Events) at Common House met us for a tour and immediately we were sold. The venue is such a gem. It has a unique vibe that is super cool and out of the ordinary which is exactly what we were looking for. I actually learned what a "speak easy" is.......our guests loved it!
Shannon was so accommodating, easy to work with and went above and beyond to answer all our questions.
If we had a request, she made it happen.
We used both Vinegar Hall spaces and the upstairs Library which was a great added space for 100 guests. The guys loved the pool table while others loved relaxing on the comfy leather sofa's.
The bar set up's and selected beverages were of great quality!
The food was top notch and not much was left behind. We had selected fun food and had an assortment of Mini Chicken Biscuits, Mini Havarti Dill Grilled Cheese, Mini Burgers, Seasonal Vegetable Boards, Desserts and more! It was all delicious.
Music was played using our selected Spotify playlist and it was made to play throughout the space and this added a nice touch. A microphone set up was provided and at our disposal as needed.
Shannon worked with our chosen florist for this event, Hedge Fine Blooms, to add some floral décor and lighting. Hedge Fine Blooms was outstanding and Shannon handled both the delivery and pick up!
The Common House staff was professional, friendly, helpful and provided us with excellent service.
The pricing is reasonable and fair, and Shannon worked with us to find an excellent price point that fit our budget while aiming to provide a wonderful guest experience.
I can’t recommend this venue more! 10/10!

Perfect for a Rehearsal Dinner!
Bailey and Madison helped us plan the perfect Rehearsal Dinner for 75 guests. We started with rooftop cocktails at sunset (on a beautiful autumn afternoon), then celebrated in Vinegar Hall for a yummy seated family-style dinner with a slideshow and a personalized playlist piping through the speakers. Our wedding party commented on how "cool" the CH vibe was -- the rest of the wedding weekend events were held at more formal, traditional venues, so CH was perfect -- modern, hip, and more casual. You can't beat the location if your guests are staying at the Quirk, Omni, or Draftsman, and if you are having a Welcome Party afterwards elsewhere on the Downtown Mall as we did. Incredibly convenient! It was exactly how we envisioned it -- Thank you Madison and Bailey! Great Rehearsal Dinner Venue!
We worked with Madison Collier, who was incredible, to host a rehearsal dinner the night before our wedding! She was on top of her game, even when we were not - she responded quickly, tailored the space and contract to what we needed (we booked a smaller party than they would typically host), confirmed food menus, and was very clear about what to expect from her events team and what was expected of us. We had zero worries during the actual wedding weekend. We were completely hands off, and seeing how communicative she and her team were leading up to our rehearsal dinner gave us peace of mind. Our guests loved the food, service was professional and non-intrusive, and the space was perfect for gathering our close friends for dinner and speeches. Thank you so much, Common House team!

Great rehearsal dinner spot
We had our rehearsal dinner here and it was an excellent venue for our ~30 guests. The vibe of the vinegar hall is very cool so you don’t have to do much decoration, the food was excellent, and great service. We were also able to open up the space to other guests after dinner for a welcome party. Would highly recommend to anyone looking for a rehearsal dinner venue in the Charlottesville area!We had our rehearsal dinner here and it was an excellent venue for our ~30 guests. Sub-par for the expensive price
First and foremost, our wedding at the Common House was absolutely stunning and the spaces they offer are picture perfect. Madison was absolutely wonderful to work with. The reason this review is getting a 3/5 is due to several issues we ran into the day of our wedding. This is just a heads up to brides considering the Common House for their event.
1.) When we originally found Common House for our reception venue, we were quoted $4500 for 3 hours of rental space, food, and alcohol. It was never mentioned to us that appetizers and desserts were not included in that. After the small details that weren’t included, we spent around $7500 for the 3 hour event. To be completely honest, if the event were to be exactly what we asked for, the money wouldn’t have been an issue.
2.) 3-4 days before the big day, after contracts were already signed and payments were complete, I received a text message from the wedding coordinator saying I still owed another $1800 for the rental fee and they “forgot to add it to the original invoice” but they’ve added it now. After already paying $3000+ over what we were quoted, I was shocked to hear we still owed another $1800 and confused as to why it was just being brought up now. They decided last minute to waive that fee, thankfully.
3.) Food. This was a big one. When we met with our wedding coordinator, we told her we would have 59 people attending the wedding reception. She said their chef prepares enough food for 1.5 servings per person. Not even an hour into the food, there were 7-9 people (including the bride and groom) that had not eaten, and the food was completely out. It was also incredibly disappointing to pay what we did and run out, have to ask for food covers to keep bugs away, and have no heaters to keep it warm. After about 5 minutes of the food being outside, it was freezing cold.
4.) Alcohol Issue/Tips The alcohol package we received included rum, tequila, vodka, bourbon, and scotch (it’s even printed on the sign that was placed for guests at the bar) One of our guests walked up to the bar and requested a scotch drink and was denied and told that wasn’t available for us. Thankfully my mother stepped in and demanded it. On top of the scotch issue, Common House charged a service fee (tips for the servers of $1097.80) and the bartenders still placed a tip jar on the bar which we found extremely tacky.
5.) Lastly, our event was from 4pm-7pm, and at 6:54pm three guests that were not from our wedding came up and got drinks and hung out. I do understand that at 7pm, the space was now open to the public, but the staff could have been polite enough to let us have the full time and not have strangers with us the last few minutes of our event.

Unique, fun, eclectic - it’s a wonderful vibe!
With an intimate guest list of approximately 50 people, the full buyout option (banquet room + lounge level + roof top) was an excellent choice for our wedding venue. With so many nooks to take great photos, plus the murals as amazing backdrops for the night, we could not have asked for a better venue! Plus, the event team was a dream to work with, assisting with a few of our “special requests”...and did we mention the food? Our guests could not stop raving about it! Simple, clean, seasonal dishes that hit the spot. Incredible Wedding at Common House!
Due to CVOID-19, my now husband and I had to postpone our wedding multiple times. Eventually we decided to have a microwedding about 2 months before our (new) wedding date. After meeting with Bailey and Madison at Common House, we knew that this would be the perfect place to get married! They helped us put together a microwedding together in a short period of time, and handled all the curveballs from the pandemic with swift and impressive professionalism. On our actual wedding day, everybody at CH were so wonderful and made sure that we were safe in regards to social distancing. Also the food and drinks were amazing!!! Best decision for our wedding!
Having our reception at Common House was the best decision we made for our wedding. Planning the wedding myself, it was such a relief knowing Common House was not only a one-stop-shop but also a guarantee that the aesthetics would be top-notch.
We received so much positive feedback from our guests: from the delicious food (we heard from many that it was the best wedding food they’ve ever had!) to the superb service from the staff (truly 5-star service!) Furthermore, the space was absolutely stunning!
We knew it was going to be great, but our expectations were still exceeded. We were blown away by Common House and I can’t recommend it enough!Having our reception at Common House was the best decision we made for our wedding.
We were blown away by Common House and I can’t recommend it enough! -
