Cakes by Long’s pricing was the most reasonable that we found for our wedding, but the cake looked very professional and was absolutely delicious. We both really like buttercream frosting (not fondant), so Cakes by Long was an obvious choice. HIGHLY recommend Long!!! BEAUTIFUL cake for amazing price!!! fed 250 people for a three-tier $600 cake! Very simple designs and placed the flowers and cake topper on perfectly. delicious and very moist! his buttercream is one of the best in the are!!! He works right out of his home and is a family business. My cousin referred me to him and I would refer him again in a minute.HIGHLY recommend Long!!! Oh my goodness, I have nothing but awesome things to say about Cakes by Long, our wedding cake was a cherry blossom decorated cake, it looked beautiful at our wedding reception, and tasted even better, our guests loved it, I had two flavors, bottom tier was mocha and two top tiers were strawberry, it was excellent. I'm ordering all my cakes from Mr. Long, he is a great guy with a wonderful personality. His brother Thahn did our wedding photography and was excellent. I loved his work. Thanh did a great job at our wedding. They worked tirelessly for 14 hours on our wedding day, from 8am till 10pm at night. They did a great photo album for our engagement pictures, and they are a bang for your buck photography services.Thanh did a great job at our wedding. I highly highly recommend Long for wedding cakes. A friend personally recommended him and I've had cakes made by Long for the engagement ceremony, as well as the wedding. The design of both cakes were absolutely fabulous and more than anything, it tasted amazing. I will definitely do business with him again in the future for our anniversaries and even birthdays. His pricing is very competitive, too.I highly highly recommend Long for wedding cakes. My family has ordered cakes from Long for years. For us, cake isn't a cake unless it's a) moist delicious cake and b) it's made of real delicious buttercream. So it was a given that when my husband and I got married, Long was our de facto cake maker of choice.
Head's up for brides and grooms: Long's specialty is doing cakes with buttercream frosting. And when I say buttercream, it's the real mccoy - creamy buttery, smooth frosting. It's not cloying, but it perfectly goes well with the cake (definitely recommend the rum syrup he uses for his wedding cakes -- it goes fantastic with coffee). Even the flowers he uses to decorate his cakes are also made of buttercream -- and they're absolutely beautiful in terms of how detailed they are. And the cake itself -- did I mention they're ridiculously moist and fluffy?
As for working with Long -- he's very flexible and very responsive to questions. His pricing is very reasonable as well as his delivery rates (he was the one who delivered our wedding cake that morning). Though when it comes to communication, it's recommended that you call him rather than sending an email -- he tends to be busy with orders, but so long as you leave a message, he is very prompt in calling you back.
Definitely recommend Long if you want a buttercream creation for a wedding cake - dh and I were definitely happy hearing our guests still raving about the cake!

My family and I have been long-time clients of Long for YEARS. If we need a cake for larger family gatherings (birthdays, anniversaries, etc.) then BOOM = Cakes by Long is the answer!
The cake itself is unbelievably light (almost like a spongecake) and the buttercream is 100% pure butter; we ALWAYS get the mocha-flavored buttercream because it is THAT heavenly and delicious. I think the cake tastes best when it has a little time to sit out but it's not completely room temperature yet and the buttercream still has a slight bite.
We even ended up using Cakes by Long for our wedding cake which was a simple 2-tier cake + a few extra sheet cakes. The wedding took place in Richmond and we had friends pick up the cakes from his home (which is Long's fully operating bakery) the morning of the wedding. Since the cake was carefully packaged, everything arrived in Richmond all in one piece!
Keep in mind that since Long is pretty much a one-man operation working out of his home and a large portion of his clientele is Vietnamese, the cultural and professional "etiquette" might be a little different/unusual for some customers. His English is pretty good though and be sure to meet him in person if you plan to order a specialty cake.
