I first contacted Anchorage in the fall of 2012 and was given the impression we could have the run of the place with a September 2013 wedding. It sounded like their 2013 season was much busier than expected and by the time of my wedding they were sticking to all of their many rules - not a big deal, but I wish I knew ahead of time.
The cabins are rustic and somewhat dirty, but it was ok, I had set my expectations low and my guests are more of the camping variety. It's a typical family camping type place and would be great for taking your kids for a week, but some of the guests opted to stay in a hotel. There were some maintenance issues: in one cabin the shower head wouldn't turn off, at least on 3 separate occasions. The bathroom flooded while they waited for Chris to fix it. There was a long list of rules handed out to everyone who checked into to the cabins, but some people weren't told there was a heater in the cabin and they froze all night.
I think Anchorage is getting more into weddings and receptions, and it would be very helpful if Alyson had a list of what they suggested for brides setting up a wedding here. I was so scared I wasn't going to think of something and it would be a glaring omission at the event. This wasn't the case because I probably emailed Alyson 500 times about what to get/bring and she was very patient with me. We set up port a potties, extension cords/splitters, and the tent/tables/chairs.
They had a hard rule of no loud music after 10pm so the other guests wouldn't complain. I'd suggest renting out the entire place to avoid this. The campfires each night were fun. No issues with the canoe rentals and it's a great location on the lake. I would recommend Anchorage for a low key, informal wedding if your expectations are set correctly.
