We fell in love with A Private Estate the moment we drove up. It was everything we had ever talked about and more! Ripley was a pleasure to work with and was very welcoming. She introduced us to our Planner and we had a very easy wedding-planning experience over the past year.Sent on 06/21/2015
During the few days leading up to the wedding, we stayed on the property in the Carriage House and it made the whole event even more special. Jack, the Property Manager, was fantastic to work with as well! The whole team there is awesome.
We truly lucked out weather-wise and our day was AMAZING.

What a beautiful property! My fiance and I are aesthetically very picky, and we both fell in love with this venue right away. You can't argue with the way the lawn frames on one side the mansion house, and on the other opens up to the Hudson River and the Catskills Mountains in the background. The grounds are kept in excellent condition by a very knowledgeable and caring owner (this will become apparent if you see the contract for the venue) and groundskeeper. It was a pleasure to work with them. Ripley was very responsive, and very thorough. She helped guide us with our more or less DIY wedding. I can't speak highly enough of Jack, whom we relied on to help us set up, and take stuff down.Sent on 06/25/2015
Our friends and family are still reminding us what a great and relaxing time they had, and how much they loved the venue. The beautiful setting made everyone relax and have a great time.
We stayed at the Carriage House for 2 nights. It is well stocked, and with 4 bedrooms, you can have your closest friends/family staying there too. It's clean and rustic.
One word of caution to those who want to party all night... This is not the place for you. In general, unless you're in a hotel/banquet/indoors space, ie sound proof, there is a mandatory loud noise shut down before 11pm.

We could not be more thrilled with our selection of A Private Estate for our wedding. It was a beautiful summer day in a gorgeous location. The front lawn and view of the Hudson was a breathtaking backdrop for our ceremony and cocktail hour. Then we danced the night away up in the barn complex. Our guests could not stop talking about what a unique and fun night it was, truly memorial. Ripley and Jack were so easy to work with and always prompt in responding to our questions and concerns.Sent on 06/22/2014

My daughter and her husband got married at A Private Estate and I can not believe I had not met anyone that had used this breathtaking venue before. You should end your search immediately and book this absolutely captivating setting. It was wonderful to work with the extremely professional owner, Ripley Hathaway and her groundskeeper, Jack. They have the happiness and dreams of the couple in mind and could not have been more helpful and genuinely happy to participate in the couple's special day. The grounds are meticulously manicured and they were married in front of the gorgeous panoramic view of the Hudson River and the Catskill Mountains. We enjoyed our cocktail hour outdoors, in front of the Main House, and moved to the barn for dinner, where we could dance just adjacent under cover (just in case!). Even our caterer felt it was a fantastic place to work, with a full kitchen for their use and a fully cooperative hostess and logistics team (parking was a breeze thanks to the smiling staff greeting everyone!) I have absolutely no "hitches" to warn you about, nothing but wonderful things to say...even the bathrooms were meticulously maintained and lovely. BOOK IT!Sent on 07/01/2014

This is a beautiful venue on the Hudson River with a perfect view of the Catskills. This is not your typical venue that makes you feel like you are just another wedding party being run through the wedding mill. Immediately you feel as if this beautiful property, once owned by the Livingston family, is being shared with you and all of the guests. Although grand, the property is also unpretentious, giving you the feeling, that at least for one day, this is an extension of your home for you and your family and friends to fully enjoy. It is the exact right place to be on that day very special day.Sent on 07/01/2014

Magical wedding venue
We loved our wedding at A Private Estate. The grounds are beautiful and it felt truly magical on the day of. Ripley and Jack were wonderful. Our guests especially loved the bon fire. We loved the fact that each part of the wedding was in a different section -- from the ceremony by the water, the cocktail hour by the house, the barn for dinner, the patio for dancing, and the bon fire and front yard of the barn for dessert. The grounds are well-kept and I'd chose the venue again in a second.Sent on 12/10/2018

My husband and I are so happy we decided to get married at A Private Estate this past June. We can't stop thinking about how perfect the day was and so much of that had to do with our incredible venue. Ripley and Jack are friendly, accommodating and caring individuals. They really went above and beyond to make our day special. Both were onsite the day of our wedding pitching in and helping out other staff! The venue itself is incredibly charming and unlike any other wedding venue we've ever seen. You have the freedom to create your own vision and there are many beautiful vantage points to work with. If you are planning your own wedding, it's a lot of work but totally worth it. I really appreciated the fact that I wasn't required to work with specific vendors. I was able to research a lot on my own and choose specific vendors who were able to create my vision. We had our ceremony down by the Hudson River overlooking the Catskill mountains, our cocktail hour on the lawn a few steps from the estate and our reception towards the back of the property inside the barn. We really lucked out with the weather on June 16th - it was 85 degrees and sunny without a drop of rain. Most of the venue is outdoors and I really did not want to have a tent for the ceremony, cocktail hour or reception, so keep that in mind if you have a similar vision. Our family and friends cannot stop talking about how amazing our wedding was. I've heard from numerous people that it was the best wedding they've ever attended and one of the most beautiful venues they've ever seen. I highly recommend getting married at a Private Estate for all of the DIY brides out there!Sent on 08/19/2018

My wife and I were married at a Private Estate 06/03/2017 and we had the most wonderful time at this very special wedding venue. We knew we wanted an outdoor wedding - which of course entails risks -but this site is well prepared as it includes a chef's kitchen and a fully covered barn that can seat up to 120 guests without any need for tent rentals and all the extra associated costs! The property boasts spectacular views of the Catskills across the Hudson and the abundant foliage will ensure that your wedding will look beautiful spring, summer or fall. Ripley was the fastest responding wedding vendor we encountered and was a pleasure to coordinate with throughout the process. A special mention must also be extended to Jack, the groundskeeper who was incredibly helpful to us while we were setting everything up. I'd also recommend renting the onsite carriage house which sleeps up to 12, it was very useful to have the entire bridal party onsite to make all the preparations the day before. The King-sized bed in the bridal suite was particularly comfortable.Sent on 07/10/2017
Perhaps the most unanticipated advantage of this venue is that Ripley is constantly improving the property, when we first visited they had just put in a fire pit and from the time when we booked she had added an entire back patio to the main barn where we had our dancing, giving us more space than under the semi-covered barn that we had initially imagined! Ripley had also purchased chairs for the ceremony, saving us another cost. Furthermore, Ripley added an extra cabin for onsite accommodation which would be ideal for a groom’s party, which wasn't quite finished before we had made our arrangements but I think would have made a great addition. If I were to do it all again I would not hesitate to choose A Private Estate for a magical wedding.

We fell in love with A Private Estate! It was beyond perfect for our wedding and our guests all were commenting on how did we find such a beautiful location! They have all your needs. A Private Estate is an absolutely gorgeous venue with breathtaking views of the hudson river! For our wedding, we decided to have the cocktail hour on the front lawn overlooking the river and catskill mountains. Our guests were then transported up to the bi-level barn for dinner where there was plenty of room for mingling & dancing. The barn is beautiful with a wonderful chandelier and rustic lighting throughout. The owner is very helpful and responsive and overall it was a great value compared to other properties we looked at in the area. Our guests are still talking about what a "dreamy" venue this is!Sent on 02/20/2014

You get what you pay for with A Private Estate. We looked at many barns and outdoor venues. They ranged from currently functioning farm to historical estate, like this one. The service at A Private Estate had by far the highest attention to detail. Both the owner and the property manager knew their property inside and out and how to best make our vision of a wedding come to life. They went out of their way to make sure our wedding was as spectacular as we hoped it would be, even though the weather is the best. They don't overload themselves with weddings here to make sure that your event gets the highest attention, and we couldn't be more glad. A truly beautiful setting with some excellent staff made for a day we'll never forget.Sent on 06/10/2018
A Private Estate's reply:Thank you Vincent for this wonderful review. We wish you and Elaina all the best. Do come back and visit- our Carriage House rents year round. Happy Summer!

Book them -- Ripley Hathaway was excellent to work with, and Jack, the Maestro of the entire production, is extraordinary: there is nothing that he cannot do, and there is nothing that he will not do, to make the event exactly as you want it -- and all with a smile - he redefines competent. The Carriage House (rented for Bridal Party) is a lovely, comfortable place to stay. And of course, the grounds are magnificent. The professional chef's kitchen (a rarity) is greatly appreciated by caterers, and the Barn (for reception) is elegantly rustic and gorgeous. Couldn't ask for more (well, we could have asked for decent weather, but no one is to blame for that !).Sent on 11/16/2016

I had a summer wedding at A Private Estate and will always cherish that experience. We were arrive to on-site a few days early to hold pre-wedding gatherings and prepare for the main event. The grounds are breathtaking and there are multiple locations where one can hold ceremonies, parties, etc. We chose both the renovated barn and tents overlooking the Hudson River.Sent on 02/25/2014
The wedding coordinator recommended by the venue was incredibly generous with her time and had lots of insightful suggestions - such as which vendors were necessary and which ones we could do without.
The owner, Ripley, was always quick to respond whenever I called or emailed with questions.
One thing to consider is that this venue does not provide all of the amenities that you might find at a conventional catering hall. They instead allow you to bring in your choice of vendors for chairs, tables, tents (if you have your event outside the barn), caterer, florist, etc. This allows you to customize your event according to your desires. However, it can add to the overall wedding cost. But because of all the freedom we had to choose the vendors we desired, our wedding was the opposite of generic and boring and perfectly reflected our personalities. It's been nearly 8 months since we were married and friends and family still comment on what a fun and memorable experience they had out in the country, on the banks of the Hudson River.

Ripley and Jack were wonderful and A Private Estate is a truly amazing venue for a wedding and reception. The combination of the Livingston home with Hudson River backdrop, the rolling landscapes of the Hudson Valley, and the barn/patio complex mades for a magical day. Jack and Ripley were professional, flexible, ready and willing to help when we needed. My wife and I kept hearing from our guests about how great of a spot we chose. Thank you, Jack and Ripley, for your help in creating a day that went way beyond the wedding what we dreamed we'd have!Sent on 09/22/2016

I recently got married at A Private Estate and it was wonderful. Guests enter the property from a small tree covered country road that winds through the Hudson Valley landscape and numerous historic farms and estates. Just past the entrance gate is a long gravel driveway surrounded by forest on either side- it is a serene and park-like, and in fall the colors of the canopy of branches over the driveway is striking and transports you to another time. After a few bends in the driveway the forest opens to large fields overlooking the Hudson River. The owner's spectacular historic home faces the river and on a clear day there is a perfectly framed view of Round Top mountain in the Catskills from the porch and lawn. The home, the ancient trees, and surrounding property transport you to a different time and made for a beautiful and peaceful backdrop for our wedding ceremony and cocktail hour. The carriage house near the barn complex is where our bridal party stayed. It is modest in its external appearance, but is well appointed, charming and spotlessly clean. The owner has kept the structure's original details but modernized some aspects including the kitchen, bathrooms, etc, which make it very comfortable for guests, even large groups such as our wedding party. It is clear from the renovation that the owner thought hard about what would be convenient and comfortable for their guests. The owner and property manager was extremely accommodating and a pleasure to deal with. Overall, the property is quite picturesque, quiet, and peaceful and is located near by so many wonderful Hudson Valley sites- it made for the perfect setting for our wedding.Sent on 03/05/2014

When our original wedding venue cancelled on us a year out our wedding planner found us this amazing venue. It has beautiful sweeping scenes of the Hudson River and Catskill Mountains, and in the fall (if the weather cooperates) you have STUNNING views of the foliage. The house is a beautiful backdrop and the sloping lawn is perfect for a long dramatic aisle. We held our cocktail hour in front of the house and had lawn games for our guests to play. It was a nice area to let people mingle and stretch their legs. You have to rent golf carts to take people up the short hill to the reception space but it's worth it.Sent on 10/21/2016
The barn complex is amazing, but if you want to seat everyone inside I would stick to 110 or less. We rented some vintage furniture to set up a lounge space in the indoor/outdoor space it was a really nice for people to relax away from the hubub. They have an extensive patio and deck combo behind the barn which makes for a wonderful, enormous dance space and it keeps the long bar lines out of the way of diners and dancers. The fire pit in the back is also a huge hit and we provided mini-s'mores kits for everyone. Totally worth it.
The carriage house onsite is also well worth the investment. We held a small brunch for immediate family the following morning and everyone fit comfortably. We also offered a babysitter during the wedding for the small tots and they setup there. It was nice knowing they were so close. The master suite in the carriage house is divine, and the king sized bed is a welcome retreat after the wedding. We rented it out Fri - Mon so that we could host our wedding brunch and I'm very thankful we did. It was nice to have the whole house to ourselves for an evening without rushing out of there at the end of the weekend.
Ripley and her site manager Jack are excellent to work with. They are responsive and unobtrusive on your wedding day. If there were any problems we had no idea, they're that good. I can't recommend them highly enough.

Dreamy Wedding Destination
Beautiful, fun and memorable! This venue is an all in one destination with dedicated space for ceremony, cocktail hour, reception and dancing, easily interconnecting the natural beauty of the Hudson Valley with the interesting architecture and set up of the main house and event areas. Ripley and Jack at A Private Estate made our wedding weekend so special. The venue was the perfect combination of elevated sophistication and comfort for us and our guests. The beautiful lawn overlooking the Hudson River was a spectacular backdrop to the wedding ceremony. Guests then easily made their way up to the main house lawn for a chic outdoor cocktail hour with plenty of space for mingling, photos and spending time with one another. The barn was transformed into a beautifully comfortable and chic reception with greenery, twinkling lights and wonderful food, laughter, then singing and dancing all night long on the tented back patio. Jack was spectacular, paying attention to every little detail, down to the twinkling lights. He even went so far as to request the tent company bring a new tent when the one they brought was not up to his standards. We know there must have been so many other things he did all weekend, that we didn’t even know or see, that made our day so perfect. For that, we are eternally grateful to Ripley and Jack and highly encourage visiting if you’re considering for your event!Sent on 12/31/2018
A Private Estate's reply:Maureen, Thank you so much for your review that explains how our venue and we work. You and Scott were an absolute delight to work with. We wish you many years of happiness, As you know we don't host weddings every weekend so our staff and grounds can be fresh for all our couples. Jack and I would love to see you both if you ever want to come back on one of our "off" weekends. All the best for 2019.

The most beautiful rustic, charming venue a couple could ask for. We wanted fall foliage backdrop to our wedding and we got it in mid-October! We can't even imagine where else we would've gotten married. The venue has an inn that you're required to rent if you book the place during peak seasons. The inn is beautiful and it's a really fun place to stay in with the wedding party for the wedding weekend. They do have some restrictions, like no open fire, and we had to negotiate locations for certain things during our reception. Otherwise, it's your canvas to paint a beautiful wedding on. We have no regrets and had an awesome wedding coordinator to help us with the day (also required). The property manager is also extremely helpful in executing vision and logistics. Definitely check it out if you're looking for a gorgeous, riverside wedding in the Hudson Valley.Sent on 11/10/2014
