Sugar Rush Stuff was founded almost 3 years ago when I was admiring the cakes made by the infamous Cake Boss. I always loved watching his shows and seeing what he was coming up with next. I waited and waited for an occasion that I could try my hand at making a fondant cake. Though really, no occasion was needed, finally one came up that was worth a big celebration. Paige, one of our daughters, had come home with the news that she had made captain of her soccer team. To no avail, we put together a little party a few days later and I planned my first every fondant cake, a soccer ball.
My husband, in disbelief that I would succeed in this cake making process (honestly, I wasn't much of a baker and didn't care to do anything in the kitchen but cook my Italian cuisine), had joked that he would have an ice cream cake from Dairy Queen ready. Though he didn't follow through with his "funny" threat, he watched the process and became impressed with the outcome. I had succeeded in making a cute soccer cake complete with fondant. Of course the fondant was home made. I will admit that the cake was boxed and the frosting was canned.
Paige was indeed surprised and Sugar Rush Stuff was born... sorta.
Shortly after making the soccer ball cake, I needed to make another one of our daughters a cake. Her birthday was the following and so the planning began. Ocean themed was the request. Through trial and error, the cake was presented and loved. Though I look back now and make notes of changes I would make had I needed to do that cake again. Family and friends from the party loved the cake and started placing their orders. Within a short period of time, I was making cakes weekly.
It didn't take long to build a client list longer than I had ever dreamed. Soon I was doing 3-5 specialty cakes a week with no breaks in between. The business continues to grow as each cake presents a challenge that we face with determination and continued learning.
With over a hundred cakes under my belt and orders presenting new ideas, we continue to grow. Today, and everyday after my third cake, all cakes, frostings, and fondants are made from scratch and to order.
