About Scott County Historical Society

The Scott County Historical Society is dedicated to collecting, saving and sharing the history and cultural heritage of Scott County. The museum contains four exhibit galleries, large atrium entry, museum store and research library. The grounds include the historic 1908 Stans House that may be used for brides, and the newly redesigned Stans Garden. The garden is designed as a 1920s period garden with butterfly beds, circle annual beds, raised beds and two pergola tunnels. Climbing roses will be planted on the pergola in spring 2016.

This is a beautiful (and cheap) place to get married, especially outside during the summer. When I arrived to get ready, the chairs and decorations were already set up. Renting the Stans house for the girls to get ready in was a wonderful choice. It felt like we had stepped back in time. Our reception was at Turtle's 1800 Social Club, which is about 3 blocks away. All of our guests walked over after the ceremony.

Word to the wise: We used a white runner down the aisle and I kept tripping on it. I do not recommend using one - just walk on the grass.
