About Sailor Abe Films
describe your artistic style:
Our ultimate goal is to make wedding films that don't just document a day, but are real works of art. Your own little feature film. We aim to give you something you'll cherish forever-- A beautiful film you'll be bursting-at-the-seams excited to show your family, friends, kids, future kids or even strangers on the subway.
We view our films as our one chance to give you that gift. That's why we mix a cinematic docu-style approach with all the shooting, audio and editing of a high-end production. Each piece we create is a uniquely beautiful film that is taylor-made to represent who you are as a couple.
We take a "fly on the wall" approach for most of the day, and our shooting style has even been characterized as "ninja-like" (because we're stealth, not wielding nunchucks). Through this approach, we can cut to the core of this crazy, whirlwind celebration, where dreams become reality and the dancing never ends. As your day unfolds, we find the heart of what makes you two you, and your relationship so uniquely special. In our films we attempt to harness this feeling, so you can relive the power of this uniquely special day in your life forever.
We're always open to expanding our creative process, whether you're looking for a feature film, trailer, love story/engagement film, music video, commercial, or documentary, we're ready to dive in head-first.
what inspires you?
We (Danielle and Mike) met working in TV production and realized (partially due to a Halloween party where she was dressed as Abraham Lincoln, Vampire Hunter and he was dressed as Popeye the Sailor Man- years later the name Sailor Abe Films was born!) that we should probably be dating. We also realized that we wanted to connect more with our work, and find a way to use our skills to find something we could be truly passionate about.
After we shot our first wedding together, we realized there's no motivator quite like love. Getting the chance to know these incredible people and the miraculous ways they came together keeps us coming back for more. It's hard not to believe in all this when we see you having the time of your lives. The feeling is contagious.
what do you love about weddings?
Pretty much the whole shebang. Nothing's better than a giant party celebrating two people in love. Plus, seeing how creative couples get with location decor is always one of the best parts (mostly for Dani- she has a bit of a Pinterest problem).
what's your travel policy?
Although we're based out of NY/NJ, we've actually traveled all over the country for most of the weddings we've shot. Traveling's our favorite, so we definitely want to keep the tradition going!
