Made the impossible possible with a pandemic wedding
Just like many couples trying to get married in 2020 during COVID-19, we were put in the difficult situation of navigating the ins and outs of having a wedding of 60 guests at the 868 Estate Vineyards, catered by Grandale, which is onsite. Sarah, the catering director, was very thorough and attentive to every detail we wanted for our special day and was extremely generous with her time and flexible through all the changes that the pandemic brought. For us, this meant a date change, changes to rental equipment (fyi - they pass along the contractor savings right to you, which means an overall lower cost to couples), cutting the guest list by half, and having the proper cleanliness measures for our guests and staff. We can't fathom having held this event without Sarah's help. Everything went according to plan and without a hitch and we credit Grandale/868 for making it happen.
As for the event itself, Sarah's event captain, Christine, was great in supporting us through the entire weekend from setup to teardown. We had our rehearsal dinner onsite as well - highly recommend the Grandale restaurant patio or the outdoor/socially distant tent options for that - and Christine personally ensured that everything there went well. During the wedding, the staff that Grandale brought in was professional and ensured our guests were being well fed and served. They were even able to work with our specialty drinks and custom liquor/beer selections.
The venue is fantastic, especially during the late summer/fall seasons as the vines are getting fuller and is an ideal venue for outdoor weddings given the sheer size of their courtyard area which can easily fit a reception tent for 200+ people if so chosen (we had chosen a 40x60' tent for our smaller guest list). We were able to use the pre-existing venue facilities such as the cottage - fantastic for the day-of place for the bride and bridesmaids - and the terrace tent for the cocktail hour. It was a picturesque wedding that was memorable for everyone above and beyond the fact that it happened during a global pandemic! Everybody felt comfortable and safe as well.
Grandale locally is known for its food and even for a catered event, they did not disappoint. They also are priced well (considering it's Virginia wine country and for a wedding) and presented a good value overall. A huge plus for us was our ability to bring in outside alcohol except for the wines, which allowed us to cater the beverage menus to the items that are special for us and better than what you'd find at a typical wedding.
With or without the pandemic, Grandale & 868 with Sarah and Christine come with our highest recommendations! We are SO glad that we chose them over some of the other options we were considering.Sent on 09/07/2020

Excellent food, personalized to your wedding!
Grandale is our favorite spot for date-night, lunch with friends, and outdoor dining. Everything we've ever had there has been fantastic, so we knew that they had to cater our wedding. The food and service were spectacular! Sarah (director) worked with us to plan our menu to fit our unique ceremony and delivered the food. Chef Marcus provided a delicious and delightful feast. Appetizers, salads, meals, and desserts each had a special touch/ingredient that made them especially tasty and surprising. We LOVE Grandale! Total pros! Delicious food, incredible staff! Misty is amazing. Can't say enough good things about them. They can put on the fanciest dinner in the middle of a hay field!
