It was just shy of three months before our wedding, and Ellen and I hadn't hired a planner. Our wedding wasn't local; it was on an island two hours north of Seattle. While beautiful, our venue had little infrastructure of its own. We needed to bring in everything: tent, stage, tables, lighting, PA, wiring, catering, tableware, live band, extra bathrooms, etc., from nearly a dozen different vendors. There were many, many moving parts to our plan, each critical. We needed help.
We asked around. Lauren's name came up, highly recommended. Having never hired a wedding planner before, we didn't know what to expect. (Having never had a wedding before, we didn't even know what we didn't know about weddings.)
In retrospect, hiring Lauren was the most important decision we made.
We met three times in advance. She walked us through a comprehensive checklist of tasks and decisions; for the first time we had a sense of (cautious) confidence that we'd thought through the most important details. She made a number of recommendations on decorations, timing, and the ceremony that worked out brilliantly.
But it was the days before the wedding and the day of that she showed off her talents in the fullest. Our caterer was being flaky; Lauren found and booked a (superior!) replacement four days before the event. Our supplier had accidentally shorted us two tablecloths – Lauren found replacements and paid for them out of her own pocket to get them on time (we paid her back). And the actual ceremony and various events that followed went off without a hitch: it was natural, smooth, and completely crisis free.
She is as organized as any project manager I've ever met; she's as professional and cool under pressure as a star quarterback. Lauren can plan, prepare, and execute a complex wedding production with absolute precision -- while making it look easy as pie.

During the planning phase, Lauren was great at driving us to decisions, was creative in solving problems, and used her wealth of experience to help us avoid numerous landmines. For example, Lauren has a background in catering, which was a huge help as our caterer didn't have a lot of experience with weddings of our size. Lauren was able to jump in and get them set up to be successful.
On the wedding day, Lauren was a godsend. She and an assistant took care of everything. All of the management of the caterer, the rentals, the setup, toasts, dinner, DJ, teardown, etc. was taken care of. It really was a huge weight off of our shoulders not to have to worry about anything except our vows, speeches, and guests.
On the intangibles side, Lauren has a great attitude, is fun to work with, is highly professional, and has a great sense of humor. Lauren's fee was very reasonable, and we felt that we got more than we paid for. We highly recommend her!!
I have worked with Flying Anchor Event Design while shooting a beautiful modern Seattle wedding this year and had a FANTASTIC experience! The entire day flowed beautifully and everything looked perfect. It cannot be emphasized enough how important it is to have coordinators and event designers on your wedding day. As a photographer I can do my job so much better if there is someone trustworthy who truly understands the way the day needs to unfold.
