About Bird in the Hand Weddings

Bird in the Hand Weddings is a New York-based fine art wedding photography business specializing in celebrations throughout the Hudson Valley, Catskills, Brooklyn, and the Hamptons. I shoot with vintage cameras and rare film stock, blending fine art sensibility with documentary storytelling to create an authentic, timeless record of your celebration. My editorial work has been featured in Martha Stewart Living, The New York Times, The Los Angeles Times, and Real Simple, among other publications.

My Approach

All of my packages include 50% film shooting, capturing the warmth, texture, and emotion that only film can deliver. I work closely with each couple to ensure their unique style and story shine through in every image—whether you're planning an intimate elopement in the Catskills or an elegant full-day celebration in the Hamptons.

Beautiful natural photos

Rachel was amazing! My husband and I are shy and don’t like to be in the spotlight - and I love more artistic candid photos, so Rachel was perfect for us! She truly is a documentary style wedding photographer. Her photos came out beautifully and we have posed family photos we love as well as lots of candids that capture the energy and activity throughout the day and night, and lots of beautiful shots of the venue and decorations. I really appreciated Rachel’s calm, kind, and easy going manner throughout the process and on the day of. She made it easy for us and we love the photos! Definitely recommend her!

Everything we could have asked for in a wedding photographer

I got married in the summer of 2016 on one of the hottest days of the year. Rachel was our one person photography team, and the heat did not detract from her ability to capture all of our special moments, starting with getting ready through the late night dancing. From the moment we booked her, a great deal of the weight of wedding planning was lifted. She was easy to work with, and listened to what we had in mind while providing her expert opinion. She captured priceless candid moments as well as all of the formal/group photos we wanted. She was a fun and calm presence on our wedding day even through the stressful moments which included a bridesmaid dress mishap! She was extremely responsive when trying to get in touch, and sent us preview photos right away. Shortly after that, she send us our final photos which we easy to access/print. I highly recommend her to any couple planning a wedding. Her work and skill is worth every cent and more!

Rachel was absolutely incredible. She really put me at ease the entire time while managing to capture such incredible pictures! When we got the pictures I could not believe how much she had captured-- so many moments I did not realize she had even gotten. Her photographs went way beyond my expectations and we could not be happier.
