Autumn and Devrim's Wedding
July 18, 2010(Married)

AUTUMN'S VERSION
We met at our friend Dala's birthday dinner in late January. I was a bit tired, and I didn't know many people there. But then this cute guy arrived and sat across the table from me, and I woke up. He said something about being in jail, which I tried to follow but couldn't really, and then he spoke in Turkish for the rest of the night to a friend sitting next to me.

However, he was awfully cute. Being a modern feminist, I stalked him on Facebook. When he accepted my friend request, I learned from his profile that he was "interested in men." I mourned to several friends about this tragedy. "Of course," I said. "Of course he's gay."

As it turns out, he wasn't.

DEVRIM'S VERSION

I have a wonderful friend in Doha named Dala, who I met while waiting in the ticket cue for a concert in 2006. She had a birthday dinner at Le Cigale Hotel, which is very popular. I was attending a Spanish course at that time, and so I was not sure about going to Dala's birthday. But I went. A group of people were sitting around the table, and I sat opposite Jinnyn and Autumn. Jinnyn had lived in Turkey for two years and could speak Turkish. My English was terrible at that time. (Now only bad.)

I had a little chance to talk with Autumn, but I could not understand her name clearly, and I asked her what it meant. I am very proud of the meaning of my name, and I am asking always the people I meet whether their name has a meaning or not.

I gave my facebook name to her. And she arranged for me a Latin dance course which I attended only once. The first night we went out (I invited her to dinner) I had dressed very formal and she was so casual. She laughed at my European shoes and thought I was a little cheesy. But now she is going to marry with me.  Ottoman success!
