Comprising the background and atop the helmet beneath the Unicorn at the crest, the wreath and mantle, in the primary color of red symbolizes military fortitude and magnanimity. The Unicorn at the top of the coat of arms is the crest of the Howe family. In heraldry the Unicorn symbolizes extreme courage, virtue, and strength. Beneath the wreath is the helmet, in the style of the Chevalier or horseman, resting atop the shield which features three Griffins. The Griffins depict valor, death-defying bravery, and vigilance. The Griffins are divided in the shield by the honorable ordinary of a single chevron. The chevron is symbolic of builders or of others who have accomplished some work of faithful service. The Howe family and coat of arms has been present in some sort since before the Norman Conquest of England in 1066AD. The Howe families first arrived to North America in 1635.
Suzanne and Ken decided to include the Howe coat of Arms on some elements of the invitations to include some family history to their special day of celebration.
