Well, we made it back from Cozumel in one piece, BARELY!! We had a great time even though we didn't get to do some of the things that I really wanted to do while there. Our flight out of KC was the roughest part of the entire trip, we flew out Monday morning at 6 am during a thunderstorm. We were on a small plane that had only three seats across the plane, two seats on one side of the aisle and one seat on the other. You pretty much had to duck down when you got on the plane. After we got out of the storm the flight was better. We landed in Houston and made our flight to Cozumel, which was on a bigger plane, thank goodness!
We landed in hot ass Cozumel and slowly made it through security after which we were bombarded by tons of people trying to get you to take their shuttle bus to your hotel. We loaded up in the shuttle with about 6 other people and began our journey through downtown. We felt like we were in the middle of Blackhawk Down, it looked like a scene from a movie. After seeing all the crazy taxi cab drivers passing everyone whichever way they could we breathed a sigh of relief after arriving at the Wyndham.
I checked in at the beautiful outdoor lobby area and was told that we were upgraded from the Sabor to the Aura for our stay. I was thrilled because I was hoping that they would do that since the Aura is their new luxury part of the resort. They put us on a golf cart and took us to the Aura. As we checked in they gave us wine and our black resort bracelets that gave us free reign of the entire resort. We got to our room and it was awesome! We were still in a swim up room which is what I had reserved so that made me even happier.
We spent most of our days walking along the beach drinking mojitos and bahama mamas and eating TONS of food. We definitely ate way more than usual but how could you not with an all-inclusive?! The 24 hour room service was great too. Most of the water activities that I had wanted to do (snorkeling, kayaking, windsurfing) were all cancelled due to the bad rip currents and murky water. So we ended up taking a taxi downtown to shop which was fun. The market was huge but we only saw a small part of it before we left because of the downpour. That place is like a carnival with everyone approaching you trying to get you to go into their shop to buy something. Some of them are way too pushy!
It was so nice to just relax and not have anything to do. The last few days before the wedding had been so hectic and crazy that it was awesome to be able to spent time together and reflect on everything. It was nice being able to sleep in or to step outside our room and sit with our feet in the pool on our patio. We really loved our stay there and would definitely go there again sometime.
By Friday, we were definitely ready to come home but we weren't sure if we would be able to leave. The airport had been shut down for three days and there were several couples that had been stuck there unable to leave. We got to the airport, checked in and were relieved when we finally saw our plane come in. By the time everyone went through security and got us loaded we were already behind schedule. The pilot then tells us that our flight was going to be an hour longer because we were going to fly around the hurricane to Dallas.
After a bumpy ride, we finally made it to Dallas at about 5:57pm. We rushed to customs to try to make our next flight which was scheduled to leave at 6:25pm. We were sure that we were not going to make our flight home. We quickly reclaimed our bags and rushed through customs, there were several other couples that were trying to make their next flights too. We go to check our bags on the flight to KC and the ticket guy starts yelling at me about how he can't check our bags because we didn't get there in time. I try to explain to him that we just got off a flight that had to be diverted to avoid the hurricane and he keeps cutting me off asking why I didn't check our bags all the way through. I'm pissed at this point and was not about to carry our three bags on the plane. I try several times to explain to him whats going on but he insists on cutting me off and telling me that I'm not listening him. All I can say is that he was about to have one pissed off Asian if he didn't shut his mouth and help us out and stop blaming me for our bags not being checked all the way through to KC. The other guy at the counter next to him looks and sees that our flight has been delayed and told the guy that we could still get our bags on. So he proceeds to tag our bags but still goes on about us not checking our bags properly. The other guy then tells him that we had flown in a different airline originally and thats why the bags were not checked. Asshole then goes on about how they figured out the mystery and that explains everything. If we hadn't of been in such a rush to get to on our flight I probably would've asked for an apology or something from the guy. JERK!! We rechecked our bags and rushed off to our gate which was in the process of boarding passengers when we got there. We were so happy that we made it and were almost home.
Until, we find out that we are going back to tornadoes! We get on the plane and are waiting to leave when the pilot gets on the intercom to tell us that our flight is going to be delayed because of the weather in KC. We sit there for awhile then he gets back on the intercom and says he's just going to take a chance and head out. So we take off and get our drinks when he tells the stewardesses to sit down because it was going to get bumpy. Man, he wasn't kidding! After, we went through that it was smooth sailing til we got to KC. We got off the plane and went to get our bags. After, about 20 minutes of bags going around and nobody picking them up, we were finally notified that those bags were from the wrong flight so we had to wait as they took all those bags off and started loading our bags on. After about another 30 minutes we were still waiting for our last bag which happened to be my bag. I stood in line with the rest of the people with lost luggage and waited for my turn. They didn't know where my bag what as the moment but they said it would be delivered to my house the next day. I was just ready to go home, I had felt like crap all day and felt like puking. We stopped and ate since we hadn't eaten since breakfast but my stomach was so upset that I didn't eat much. We finally made it home after 1 and got to see the kids. We went to bed after saying hello to our family that had been waiting for us to get home and slept in our nice comfy bed.
