We visited several possible ceremony/reception cites, and the James J. Hill Library hit us as "the one" the moment we walked in. We loved the idea of celebrating surrounded by books, with classic architecture and elegance. Beth couldn't have been more helpful as we planned the ceremony and reception, booked vendors, and made repeated trips to the Library to take measurements for decorations we wanted to do ourselves. We were able to get one vendor tax-free by going through the Library, and Beth even volunteered to call our musicians (non-professional friends of ours) with reminders and to walk through the ceremony schedule. We were able to have exactly the wedding we wanted, and as my mother continues to say about that night, "The room just glowed."
We checked out Mintahoe after my aunt raved about a wedding she'd attended that they'd catered. This was the only caterer we visited, and we were so pleased with the price and selection that we made our choice instantly. We didn't want a buffet but also didn't want the formality of a plated dinner, and Mintahoe was one of the very few caterers who offered family style service. We chose an Italian-style family feast from the menu, and were able to make small changes to it based on our preferences. Our tasting was unbelieveable - go hungry! We thought we'd be sampling each course. Instead we were seated at a beautifully made-up table and served huge portions of everything, with plenty to take home. Everyone got plenty to eat (something I worried about with a big Wisconsin family!), everyone enjoyed the variety, and the service was efficient and professional. I recommend Mintahoe as a great value.
Choosing Serendipity Photography was the best wedding planning decision we made. We knew that photograhy was something very important to both of us, since it's the only thing you get to keep after the wedding. Every aspect of working with Jen Wheeler was wonderful, from our first meeting to the relationship we've continued in the years following. My husband and I were both graduate students at the time of our wedding, and weren't able to spend as much as we would have liked on Jen's services. She never made us feel like a less important customer - she worked with us to tailor make a package that worked with our budget and was extremely flexible about both package options and the length of time she would shoot our event. We also appreciated her commitment to her art - she's not afraid to tell you if she's uncomfortable with a certain request because it doesn't fit her photographic style. It was obvious she took her work and her clients very seriously, and there were no unanswered questions or gray areas.
We couldn't be happier with our Serendipity experience, and the photos we have of our wedding. Everyone loves them, and they really capture us and how we felt that day. We continue to recommened Serendipity to engaged friends, and as we are now expecting our first child we hope to be able to work with Jen again in the future for family photography.
Queen of Cakes is a gem in the Twin Cities wedding world. We enjoyed the small shop and family atmosphere - the owner's children and grandchildren were around, making for a lively and loving atmosphere. After experiencing several other cake tastings where we felt that vendors were more interested in pushing their ideas on us than listening to what we wanted, Queen of Cakes hit the spot. Our tasting was not at all rushed, and we were offered samples to bring home to the mother of the bride. We couldn't believe the value of Queen of Cakes - a free top tier, a free groom's cake, and prices that were in general lower than other vendors we visited. A hug bonus for us was Queen of Cakes' variety of cake, filling, and frosting flavors - we had our heart set on yellow cake, which was hard to find! In the end we went with a 4 tier cake plus a groom's cake, with each tier having different cake, filling, and frosting combinations. Many vendors would have seen this as a pain in the butt - Queen of Cakes just thought it was fun! The cake looked perfect and was delivered right on time, and 3 years later guests are still raving about our wedding cake buffet and being able to sample so many different delicious kinds. We continue to recommend Queen of Cakes to our engaged friends, and have even convinced a few family members to get birthday cakes from this lovely shop as well.
We used Midway to rent a riser for our ceremony, wireless microphones, and a karaoke machine and speakers for our reception. We were lucky to be steered towards Midway as the preferred vendor of our wedding site. Their catalog was extensive and we were able to find exactly what we were looking for. All items were dropped off and picked up right on schedule, and everything was in working order. We all adored the karaoke!!!
