Matthew and I met thru Yahoo chat in 2003 and met "in real life" in January 2004. Wasn't exactly a whirlwind romance: I had to wait for him to be "ready for a relationship." But I did - and June 6, 2004 I officially became his girlfriend. We moved in together July 2005 and built our house beginning May 2006 and moved in October 2006. We got engaged December 2006 and here we are today!
The Ring
My ring is from Friedman's Jewelers. It's a raised marquis cut with accent diamonds on each side. I get a lot of compliments.
Our Wedding Plans
We're getting married at Twin Lakes State Park in Green Bay, Virginia (Prince Edward Co.). That's where the ceremony and reception will be. They're catering it too so I don't have to worry about extra vendors and arranging times or anything. Yeah, I'm savvy like that!
Do not use this venue if you are a nervous bride/bridezilla/worrier, etc. The response time to get a question answered was ridiculous. The "event planner" wasn't at the rehearsal - when I needed her the most. There were goose turds on the sidewalk which doubles as the aisle! My brother had to go over there the morning of the wedding (when the planner was there) to have someone move the turds and clean up the mud that had collected near the entrance to the gazebo where the wedding was supposed to take place.
There were unanswered emails and phone calls. There was a lot of "I'll check on that" and no answers. And because the event planner wasn't at the rehearsal, I wasn't able to ask her where the electrical outlet was to hook up the CD player for the music -and because there was no time the morning of the wedding, we had no music for the ceremony.
However, the food was WONDERFUL!!! We got so many compliments on it. They also let us take the rest of it home - apparently not many places let you do that.
Summary - if I had to do it over again, I would shop around. But the venue is great for the budget, and beautiful. I just had a lot of unanswered questions which had they been answered, would have made my planning go a lot more smoothly.
Jerry was WONDERFUL. He took time with me to explain a lot (I was alone and hadn't done this before!). He did amazing work with my EXTREMELY modest budget. Everything was beautiful. Commuication was perfect. I would work with him again!
WONDERFUL! I cannot say enough about this vendor. Due to budget reasons, I asked them to make me a single layer red velvet cake (I made cupcakes for guests). It was the most delicious cake I'd EVER had. Melissa, the pasty chef, was wonderful, and even helped me look for my dad's ring I thought I'd lost at the rehearsal dinner the previous night. I will have them make my birthday cake in a few weeks and will definitely recommend them to everyone I meet!
Everyone knows about David's Bridal. My dress purchase was a smooth transaction. Erica, the sales lady, was a great help with questions.
My more negative response arises out of dealing with the alterations department. The fitting was fine, but they will only let you have your final fitting and pick up on a Wednesday or Friday. I was an out-of-town bride who just started a new job an hour away and could have only come on a Saturday. They wouldn't let me. So I had to have one of my bridemaids pick up the dress and I tried it on at home. There was some bead work that was not completed, but I didn't have the time to take it back.
Summary: you can buy the dress from here, but have it altered elsewhere.
