The Powell House (formerly Crawford Hall) has it's really great points and it's not great points. It's a beautiful place, you just really have to stay on top of them. They're prices are really great and the ladies there mean well. We had some setbacks, but the owners were professional, took responsibility for any mistakes made, and did what it took to make us happy. They're currently in a transition period with management and I definitely think that this will help to make improvements with the company.
One good point is that when my florist forgot about my wedding and I didn't even have a bouquet, the coordinator ran to the store, picked up some roses, and made me a beautiful bouquet, as well as little bouquets for my bridesmaids, and a couple boutonnieres for the groomsmen. She saved the day on that one and I was really grateful. (Also, the in house catering is AWESOME)
MARGIE BELL ALMOST RUINED MY WEDDING! Being so busy trying to get everything together, I didn't notice until 45 minutes before my ceremony that my flowers hadn't shown up yet. When I called the floral shop, no one answered, so I called her cell and she was OUT OF TOWN. Of course I got upset, and she proceeded to literally YELL at me and tell me that I gave her the wrong date (does she REALLY think that I would get my own wedding day wrong???) and said that I hadn't called her in months... so I'm going to take her the invoice with my CORRECT date along with my cell phone bill that shows all the calls I made to her in the several weeks before the wedding.... words cannot describe how angry I am over the fact that not only did she mess up, but that she did not accept responsibility and raised her voice at me.... unbelievable... steer clear of this shop.
UPDATE: I went to the shop to go and pick up the refund on my deposit and Margie still refused to accept responsibility. I showed her the invoice with the CORRECT day on it and she said that she had me down on two consecutive Saturdays and she thought it was the second one. SHOULDN'T SHE HAVE CALLED TO ASK?! She also said that I hadn't paid the entire bill in advance. This was true, I had put down a deposit that was well over half of the total bill and had I known that the rest was due before the wedding day, I most definitely would have taken care of it, but most vendors just asked that I bring a check for any remaining balances on the wedding day. Even so, shouldn't she have called to ask about the balance if that was a problem instead of just not showing up? This lady infuriates me.
I cannot say enough good things about Reverend Brian Cookson. From the very beginning, he took the time to talk to me about any questions or concerns about things both wedding related and non wedding related. The first time I met with him, we talked for hours and I felt like he was an old family friend. I talked with several ministers before I met him and many had that "holier than thou" attitude, but he was so open-minded and supportive. I believed in my marriage even more because he believed in us. I felt lucky to have his blessing. Also, as all of us brides do, I had gone WAY beyond my budget for the wedding, and he worked with me on the price of his services. I can't thank him enough and I recommend him to every bride that I can.
