Our Wedding Plans

The Proposal:

Jeremy graduated from college and proposed in the same weekend!!! (He always told me he wanted to graduate before he proposed so doing it the day before was kind of an inside joke betweent he two of us!!!) We were actually at his graduation party at his parents house (ALL of his family was there and my mom and dad and brother were also there, and also alot of his friends). Everyone was just hanging out, eating, drinking, talking and having a good time... Jeremy I guess then decided to get up and tell eveyone thank you for coming and supporting him throughout his college career... blah blah blah... I remember noticing how shaky he was (considering he is normally very confident and outgoing when speaking in front of people) and wondering what was going on. Then I remeber towards the end of the speech he said something along the lines of "oh, and about that thing called love"... the next thing I know he is down on one knee, bawling his eyes out... he eventually got out a "will you marry me???"... it was then I finally realized what was going on... Obviously I said yes and spent the next hour on the phone calling all my friends!!!

Our Wedding Plans:

We are both huge social butterflies and are having a large, young and fun hopefully amazingly beautiful wedding. We are getting married in his family’s church and are having both a catholic preist and prodestant minister in attendance... the church is huge and will hopefully be beautiful once decorated. Our reception is taking place in the grand ballroom of a Marriott hotel near our home town. We are having an hour long cocktail reception with passed hours de’vouirs and then a sit down, plated dinner consisting of surf and turf!! We are having a 5 hour open bar and wine service with dinner. Our colors are bright pink, light pink, chocolate brown and silver. We are using our monogram and "hearts" for a central, fairytail type theme. Roses will be incorprated into all the florial arrangements considering it is my middle name and we both love them... We plan on the wedding being tons of fun and something our guests remember for a long time!!! I can’t freaking wait!!!

Our Planning Experience

So Far everything has been great... Iam SOOOOOOOOOOOOO glad we have an 18 month engagement, not only cause of the massive payments we/and my parents are making but because it gives you so much more time to research and figure out exactly what you want... less stressful

The Greenbelt Marriott in Greenbelt, MD has been amazing thus far... We really havent gotten into the minor details just yet, but for now zero complaints...

We are currently booked with Ricky Chung Photography and cannot wait to begin our work with them!!!

White Hall Jewlers is closing and is NOT fulfilling their service plan agreements (that you buy with the rings). Instead they want you to send your jewlery (by MAIL) to another company to have any services rendered... they must be insane... its been an awful experince!!!!

Our Florist and DJ are family friends... have had ZERO problems with getting exactly what I invision from either.... plus AMAZING deals!!!

Our Advice

Family and friends make GREAT vendors ~ and often offer amazing deals... :)
Take your time... if you dont want to be stressed, dont rush into it... whats meant to be will ALWAYS find its way...
Talk about your visions together... that way you can be sure you will both be happy on your big day and that there are no unexpected ’surprises"

Our church was AMAZING to work with. Basically whatever we wanted to do they were able to accommodate and were professional about. Whenever we needed in the building the week before to set up, bring things in, or rehearse they made sure someone would be there to let us in. They accommodated us for meetings and overviews of what would happen on the day of the wedding which definitely put us more at ease. One downfall was that our pastor was almost impossible to get a hold of which made it somewhat difficult to plan a ceremony but everything turned out wonderfully and the ceremony went as smooth as can be. Both the rehearsal and ceremony went fantastic and everything was gorgeous. VERY pleased with The Church at Severn Run!!!

I have very mixed reviews about the Greenbelt Marriott... While we had an beautiful AMAZING wedding and it turned out to be what we wanted, not everything went as smoothly as I would have wished. To start we booked our reception approximately 14 months in advance. The booking process went smoothly and correspondence was quick and efficient. Once booked we chose a "planner" and started the process. Obviously there was not much to do until about 8 months out but I was excited and wanted to start right away (this did not happen). Once we actually began getting close to the big day I would try and contact my planner and was ALWAYS responded back to with an out of office reply. I understand people have jobs to do and that I was not the only bride they were dealing with, but responding 4-5 days later is not what I call professional nor was ideal correspondence for a wedding of our magnitude at all. This went on up until the week before my wedding which really did not make the process feel unique or individual, I felt like I was being swept through a wedding "mill". We had a tasting in April which went amazing, the food was great and I was really excited about how I thought the reception would go. The entire time leading up to the wedding I really didnt know what the ballroom was going to look like although I tried to schedule many meetings to try and go over this, the planner had told me we would be meeting the week before to finalize everything however he never ended up scheduling another meeting even after I tried to contact him several times... so going into the wedding I was very uneasy. When I took all my decorations to the Marriott, the planner was (shockingly) no where to be found so I gave everything to the bellboy who ASSURED me it would be taken care of. Somehow MANY of my items were lost when trying to set up the day of the wedding, they also placed my OBVIOUS bathroom basket frame and poem on the GIFT table... (I saw it as we were walking into the ballroom and was like WTF is that doing there???)
We had forewarned and asked repeatedly that the OPEN bar would not run out of items, guests would not be turned down for drinks until the END of the reception and that there would be NO lines at the bars (we asked them to do whatever they had to do to make this all run as smoothly as they could). The planner ASSURED us none of this would happen; In reality we had HUGE lines at the bar, they turned down the BRIDE (me) very rudely when I asked for a drink saying we had "hit our bottle quota" (this was at 9:30, the reception still had an hour longer to go) and ran out of numerous items. Also, we requested wine service with dinner, it never came and for champagne to be on the tables when the guests were escorted in, which didnt happen until the appetizers were being served (which wasnt a huge deal but we had to remind them to do it when we wanted it done; not what I would call putting the Bride and Groom at ease). While the food was DELICIOUS and dinner service was amazing it also took 15 minutes after the end of the blessing for the food to start coming out. I had requested for smooth transitions which I was ASSURED once again would happen and this was not the way to start off the night. The Marriott also told us we were the ONLY event in the hotel that night. Turns out there were TWO other weddings going on. I had made a bathroom basket for OUR guests, apparently every other wedding used it as well. :(
We had a farewell brunch in the morning for our guests, it was scheduled from 9-12... the staff was rude and very slow with drink orders the entire time and even tried to turn down one of our guests at 10am saying the event was over (we were all still in the room where the brunch was being held). You would think with all the extra drinks we were ordering in the morning, they would be a little more professional about it considering they were MAKING more money... However they did allow our party to sit in the private bar area instead of in the main dining room free of charge which was nice because our large party did not have to be split up. :)
Some good points; Delicious food, good drinks (when they had them). Service in the ballroom was excellent. When my husband complained to our head waiter about the bartender not serving me (the BRIDE) a drink from our OPEN bar he made sure to it that I wasnt without a drink the rest of the night and even took a bottle up to our sweet after the event. Our head server was GREAT and catered to our needs quickly and efficiently, I was very pleased with him. Our newlywed suite was AMAZING although we never received the complimentary "gift" from the Marriott that was "included" in the package. They charged us for the lesser of two entrees we selected which was really nice and added in an uplighting package behind the head table which ended up looking gorgeous. The chair covers and linens were nice and along with my flowers made the venue look beautiful. Our planner did manage to pull everything together beautifully, I just wished for a little more communication.
As I said we really did have a good time and most things went smoothly but I feel as though we were thrown through the loop with service and what we were told was going to happen that actually did not. I was ASSURED time and time again that everything would be perfect and while it was nice... it certainly was not PERFECT.

My florist was absolutely AMAZING to work with. As a long time family friend, I have seen her work and knew I could trust her to do exactly what I wanted; which is exactly what she did; PERFECTLY!!!! I really didnt have to worry about anything and I was confident she would make my flowers beautiful!!! We had one meeting about 13 months before the wedding to talk about what we wanted and then we did a small trial run about 3 months before the wedding to get an idea of what everything would look like!! All the flowers ended up being GORGEOUS, all of my guests who took the centerpieces home said they lasted longer than any flowers they have ever had before. My flowers really MADE my ceremony and reception beautiful and gave that special extra touch that really made it "us". I was SO happy at the outcome and was so glad I went with Garden Gems for my flowers!!!

Our cake package through Cakes Plus was included in our venue cost. Basically we went to one meeting with the bakery, told them what we wanted and they were able to manipulate one of their "included" cakes to look exactly like what we had envisioned. It was that easy and I didnt have to do anything else. The cake was delicious and it was fun to taste and choose all the fillings. Our cake turned out BEAUTIFULLY on our wedding day... it was everything we wanted and looked exactly as I always dreamed it would. Everyone raved about how delicious it was and how pretty it looked!!!

The sales department was fine, I found the dress I wanted and they were MORE than helpful with returning things and accommodating what we needed. The dress was beautiful and looked amazing on my wedding day. However, I was super nervous about the alterations but I went against my better judgment and let DB do them. $360 later and I am STILL not totally happy about how long it took them to actually get it right and I am extremely pissed about my experience. The first time I went they did the bustle and a hem and I asked them to take in the top and around my torso (I had lost a significant amount of weight so it needed to be tighter). They never tightened it...and when I went back for the second time the seamstress argued with me and told me it was already tight enough (if I would have jumped up and down the girls would have popped right out) I refused to leave with it that way so she said she would do it but they would have to charge me again... I didnt even care at that point, I just wanted it fixed. So I paid my money and went on my way... 2 weeks later I go back (for the third time now) put the dress on and now it is SO tight it actually CUT me!!! My mom was pissed, I was pissed and there was STILL bunching material around my torso which was supposed to be pulled tight. The rude consultants went and got the seamstress again who argued with me MORE, luckily my mom was there and went Momzilla on them saying there was no way I was wearing a dress that was cutting me... and that it was NOT like that when they tightened it the last time we were there and they needed to fix it. Sooo they take the dress back and let it out to where it is SUPPOSED to be and told me I would have to sit there for an hour while they fixed it. I obviously didnt have time for that... but 30 minutes later they come back, I put it on, its alot better but NOT what its supposed to be. So Saturday we went back to get it (they had wanted to keep it to press it but told me I couldnt try it on again because they were completely booked for the whole day) and we about to leave when we find out they put these CHEAP plastic clear buttons on it for the bustle when we could have had the pretty material covered or pearl buttons; but they never gave me an option, they just figured they could get away with putting the tacky ones on. Luckly right before we left with the dress I saw the samples and asked why I didnt have the pretty buttons and this is their reply; "Because you didnt ask for them"... This is when the inner bridezilla came out in me... I was like "so your telling me I should have KNOWN I could have these buttons, its not your job to tell me about them???" The consultant was like we can change them for you right now ma'am... I was like damn straight you will. 15 minutes later there are the nice buttons on and they say to me "that will be free of charge"... I was like well obviously!!! Oh and there was not one single person in a dressing room so apparently they were not as booked as they made out to be... I will tell you right now, I will NEVER have another thing altered at DB in my life... They are rude, unprofessional, and do a crappy half ass job... WARNING to Brides!!!!

Smoky the DJ was great to work with. I was very confident from the beginning of the planning process. We met with Smoky about a week before the wedding to go over important songs and ideas we had for our reception. Also to run through the timeline of events. Smoky had an online database that we could access from the time we booked where we could list must play/do not play songs which I thought was very helpful in the planning process. Everything went very smoothly during our reception and the transitions were just how I wanted them to be. Smoky was also very flexible to the flow of the reception and was able to easily negate changes. We had a blast on the dance floor and he made sure to keep us going!!
