Ashton Gardens is BEAUTIFUL. They've done so many weddings that they know exactly how to make it run smoothly! We started working with our planner, Stephanie (and Shara who left for maternity leave) about 30 days before the wedding on all of the details. When we had any questions before our 30 day meeting, they were very helpful and quick to answer. I was nervous about giving control over to someone who I barely knew, but after our first meeting I was completely comfortable that they were going to do an awesome job with my wedding. Although the price is a little bit more than other venues in the North Houston area, I feel like it was worth it. Our pictures turned out beautiful! Guests were commenting about how amazing the chapel was and how pretty their own personal pictures were turning out. We were able to get a to-go box of food to eat at the hotel after the reception, and my mom took home about 5 tupperware full of left over cake. The food was really good - I highly recommend the ham and the gnocchi. Our four hours went by super fast, but we were able to work with the DJ to do all of the dances and speeches right after each other to allow more time after the "formalities" to party. All around, AG was great! The venue is beautiful, the planners are great at what they do, and the staff is really nice! We had a perfect wedding thanks to them!
Scott was so much fun to work with at our wedding. He put everyone at ease and wasn't pushy or overbearing at all. Scott and his assistant Kelly were all over the place taking shots that I didn't realize were there. When we got back from our honeymoon, the pictures were already posted online. There were a TON of amazing shots and I'm going to have a hard time narrowing it down to 75-80 for our album! He is really great at capturing emotion and those little candid moments that really show what the 'big day' is all about from all perspectives. Looking through the pictures makes me relive the entire day and I remember how much fun we had (along with all of our guests). I couldn't ask for a more beautiful set of pictures to share with our friends and family! Thank you, Scott!
Stephanie was great to work with! I might have been a more difficult bride because I changed my mind a few times, but Stephanie was really good at trying to understand exactly what I wanted...even through email because I live in Dallas. We met twice before the wedding to go over the arrangements and budget, and she was so helpful. She suggested flowers that would go well with what we wanted and suggested other options that would be more cost effective. It was like we were working with a friend because she is so easy going and relaxed. The flowers turned out beautiful and look absolutely amazing in all of our pictures. I had guests commenting on how fresh the flowers looked compared to other weddings that they'd been to recently, which was something I didn't really think about before. Stephanie was great and genuinely wanted to put together exactly what I was looking for...and did.
We did cake tastings at two places and there was no question that we should book Cakes by Gina. They were so professional and offered so many amazing flavors. Each tier of the bride's cake was a different flavor, and we had guests commenting on how they couldn't decide which one they liked best because they were all so good. The only cake I was able to taste at the wedding was what we used for the cake cutting pictures, but we were lucky enough to have over estimated the guest count and ended up taking home several tupperware pieces full of cake! My mom is freezing the top tier and some of the groom's cake for us to eat on our anniversary and I honestly cannot wait. It was the best cake I've ever had and we had the same compliment from a lot of our guests!
Jamie was our DJ back in September - he did an awesome job. My dad and I are pretty particular about music and "setting the mood" for parties, we're always the ones bringing the party mix for entertaining. We knew exactly what type of music we wanted played at the wedding. I had been to several weddings before that dragged on and on because the music was terrible and I was not having that! So, needless to say, the DJ was the vendor that I was a little worried about. BUT, as soon as I talked with Tish and Jamie at the bridal show, I knew they were going to be able to do what we wanted for the wedding. Jamie made sure to let me know that it was going to be what I wanted, even if it wasn't songs he had suggested. We gave him a pretty long list of songs we wanted played during each piece of the reception (ie, cocktail hour, dinner, cake cutting, dancing) and he picked the perfect mix of songs from our list to play. People were on the dance floor - including me - all night long, and the pictures turned out great! Everyone had a great time and we're still getting comments about how much fun it was because of the dancing. Jamie was also really helpful during the reception, getting me a glass of champagne when none of the waiters did! It was a great night and the music was a HUGE part of what made it flow so well. Jamie and Tish are so easy to work with, whether you know exactly what you want (to the point where you consider yourself high maintenance) or have no idea what songs to use.
I live out of town, so there wasn't anyone in Houston that I knew who could do officiate our wedding. We met James at the Houston Bridal Extravaganza and I instantly knew that he was going to fit well with our style and intentions. His wedding profile was pretty intensive, but it really helped him to get to know us as a couple and personalize our ceremony. I've been to a lot of weddings and always daydream during the ceremony for one reason or another. Maybe I'm biased because it was my own wedding, but everything he said was spot on. He talked about the importance of marriage and recognized that it's a lot of hard times too and that each part has to give their all to make it work. He also recognized that both of our parents are still married and how that played a role in shaping our love for eachother. It was a Christian ceremony like I wanted, but it was so personalized to my husband and I. I think our guests were able to connect with our "story" and get a feel for our views of how we would like our marriage to be because of the ceremony. I can't wait to watch it again on video - it was perfectly suited to our personalities!
