We knew we wanted our ceremony and reception to be at a hotel and once we visited the Renaissance we knew it was the perfect location. There isn't a nicer hotel in Pittsburgh. The entire staff is extremely courteous and professional; the hotel itself is beautiful (as are most of the views from the windows) and makes for a memorable event and gorgeous photos. The event coordinator, Tony Lee, completely eliminates the need for an additional wedding planner. The food is much better than standard wedding fare, and they're very flexible in getting whatever you want for food/drink. It was so easy having the ceremony, reception, and morning-after brunch all in the same place - most of our guests were from out of town and everyone loved it. The value for your money is excellent - most of the venues we looked at would have cost roughly the same or more, but no other place would have been as beautifully elegant or had the attentive service from the staff.
April at Mocha Rose is wonderful - she's very talented, her designs are modern and elegant, and she's very easy to work with. Very nice, very flexible and super prompt communication, which is great when you're dealing with all the details weddings involve. I felt very comfortable giving her a vague description of what i wanted and trusting her to come up with something perfect and she definitely did not let me down. Delivered exactly what we wanted, exactly as promised - I would hire her again in a heartbeat.
Signature Desserts is absolutely fantastic - our cake was gorgeous and so delicious! They're really friendly and very helpful in picking out the design and flavors for your cake. They seem to be able to do pretty much anything and were able to help us explain exactly what we had envisioned. They were the 6th bakery we tried and while others were good, they were FANTASTIC - and they're really affordable, too. They also bake you a fresh version for your anniversary so you don't have to freeze the top tier of your wedding cake. I cannot recommend them highly enough; they were the best of any vendor we had, and all of our vendors were very good.
I went twice, looking for my bridal gown and planning to buy the bridesmaids gowns there. I had appointments both times. The first time, they were courteous and everything was fine. Only two of us were trying things on and there was no one else in the store at the time. The second, however, I came with 4 bridesmaids and a few spare family members; the store was more crowded and despite the fact that we had an appointment, they were rude, inflexible and generally unhelpful - not bringing different sizes, not answering our questions about which dresses were available in which colors, etc. They couldn't even take a joke about one of my guys wanting to try on a dress (which was clearly a joke - he's huge and would never fit) and instead got really snippy. They do carry a nice array of designers, but they don't have many sizes available - mostly just 6, when we needed only smaller and larger. My biggest problem was that I had observed them being rude to my bridesmaids before they realized I was the bride (I live out of state and I guess they weren't expecting me to be with the maids the 2nd time?), after which they literally said "I didn't realize you were here!" and tried to suck up to me. Consequently, not a single one of us bought anything there, even though we all ordered designers they sell.
Les was fantastic. He played what we wanted, always sought us out if he had received a questionable request, and emceed the reception very well without adding any cheesiness like DJs sometimes do. Volume was very consistent - not too loud up close and not too quiet farther from the speakers. He was also very flexible, accommodating all of our last minute requests and changes. Very professional, very nice, a pleasure to work with, and very affordable as well. Highly recommended.
Their selection isn't as great as a lot of other companies, but if they have what you want, they are excellent. I found exactly what I needed and at an unbelievable price. They even went the extra mile and called me before printing the invitations when they found that I had worded something in an unconventional manner and thought (correctly) that I might want to change it. Very quick service as well.
After a disastrous experience at Jared, we used Blue Nile for our wedding rings, and they were great. High quality stuff (we picked platinum) at lower prices than most comparable retailers. You can certainly find cheaper stuff out there, but it won't be the same level of quality as Blue Nile. Their selection isn't huge, but the stuff they have is very nice. I had to exchange my ring for a different size, and they made it as easy as possible (it is always going to be slightly more burdensome to send it back via mail than to simply go to a store where they size you precisely in the first place) and were very polite, professional, and easy to get a hold of - no long hold process or frustrating automated menu. It's also nice that there's no sales tax and shipping is free (via FedEx) on almost everything. I will definitely use them again in the future.
