I had just started working at my brother's store and had been there a little over three weeks when, one morning, after I had finished opening the store, I decided to take a break and read Cosmo; however, customers began to wander by and interrupt me. One of these customers happened to be Ruben! I paid him no attention at first and just tried to get him on his way so that I could continue reading; and I did just that, but a few minutes later he came back. He saw me reading and asked me a question. Now, I can be utterly deaf at times and had no idea what he said so I asked him "What?" like 3x before he decided to give up and just asked to buy another item. As I turned away to get what he wanted, his question finally registered in my head; he had asked "You get paid to sit around and read, huh?" So I turned back around and was like "Oooohhh. Yes, I do get paid to sit around and read; pretty good job, right?" :) We talked for about ten minutes before he ended up asking for my number. I , of course, gave it to him. Then, I started to get busy and he left. A while later, my mother and sister came to work (it's a family business) and while I was telling my sister about him, he showed up again! It was a real quick appearance; he simply handed me a Mrs. Fields box and said "This is for you." I took the box to the back and opened it; inside was a large round chocolate chip cookie with my name written on it and a heart around my name. How sweet! = ) And that, my folks, was the beginning of this lasting relationship!
