I've done all of my own planning so far. I enjoyed interviewing the vendors and working with them. My fiance' hasn't been involved in the process. He's given his opinion on certain ideas, but not in most. I wish he were more involved, but what can you say. I started the process right after the proposal, about 15 months ahead. That gives you a lot of options and a great negotiating tool.
Barbara and Geoffery, you have been blessed to find each other. Now remember to keep God in your marriage and your marriage will also be blessed.

Aunt Barbara and Geoff,
May God add a special blessing on your union! We are happy for you both! Sorry we won’t be able to attend , but our heart and prayers are with you. Geoff, the bible says in Prov 18:22
“ Whoso findeth a wife findeth a good thing, and obtaineth favour of the LORD.” My Aunt Barbara definitely fits this scripture so you are blessed to have her. Take good care of her, she is very special to me. May the blessings of the Lord be upon you both, I bless you in the name of the Lord.

Much Love
I love The Mansion, its staff and owners. If you want a reception that you and your guests will talk about for years to come, then The Mansion is the place for you. My wedding had a Victorian theme and The Mansion was the perfect place for my reception. As others have said, The Mansion has its own way of doing things. What I truly appreciate is that their way of helping you plan your wedding or reception is clearly laid out on their website. You do communicate by email and this allows you to have a chronology of decisions or changes made. You will get the event that you want and dreamed of. I have no doubt about that.
The Mansion also offers one stop shopping for most of your needs. I gave them my budget for the catering, flowers, and the wedding cake and they worked with that budget. The food was magnificent and its presentation was breathe taking. I wanted flowers on my wedding cake and I left the design and flavor up to the baker. I did not make a mistake. The cake was beautiful and tasted wonderfully. My husband and I could not save the top for our anniversary. We ate it during the next few days. We plan to have them bake another one for our anniversary.
My guests wanted for nothing. Both my husband and I are from the south and The Mansion made sure that my southern guests had a taste of home. The decor was extraordinary and because of The Mansion's beauty, you do not need to spend a lot on flowers or any other decorations. The service was excellent and as the Bride, The Mansion provided a young lady who worked exclusively to ensure that I had everything that I wanted and needed. When it comes to flexibility, the owners are the best. My guest list increased by 25 percent, and H and Ted made sure that I had the space needed to accommodate everyone. They worked a miracle and ensured that everyone was very comfortable. We also spent our wedding night at The Mansion. Our room was beautiful and as requested, they served us food from our reception for dinner. That gave my husband and I the opportunity to truly savor the food and enjoy each other's company. The next morning we had a beautiful breakfast.
If you want a venue where you and your guests feel at home, yet have the staff of royalty serving you, then you too, will love The Mansion. I highly recommend The Mansion for your wedding and reception. Make a reservation and visit The Mansion on Sundays and Mondays where you can tour the facilties and have a wonderful brunch, tea, or lunch. You will see how magnificent a place this is.
Brookside Gardens is a wonderful place to have your wedding ceremony. We considered the quality of service, outstanding. We worked with Nora and Ivey and both provided wonderful service. Although not required by contract, the Gardens provided a rain site, if needed. Fortunately, we did not need it. We were able to talk with staff when we had questions and all were very responsive, professional and kind. We consider the cost to rent the site quite reasonable. We had to place a security deposit and the Gardens quickly returned the deposit without our asking.
The Gardens are beautiful, unique, and will provide your guests with a wonderful place to relax before your wedding and for many visits afterward.
What a wonderful venue. We held our rehearsal dinner at the Hilton. We worked with Jessica from Catering. Jessica provided the best service ever. She worked within our budget and gave several concessions that made the event wonderful. Jessica arranged to have our welcome bags delivered to our guests, not only those at the Hilton, but at the sister hotel, the Hamptons. This was definitely beyond the call of duty. Upon my guests' arrival, Jessica helped with one guest's problem with checking in. She made sure that I had nothing to worry about.
The food and service was wonderful. We were late getting to dinner, but despite that, the food was great and the staff was very understanding and helpful. I consider the cost for dinner to be quite reasonable. We had everything from appetizer to dessert for a fixed price. We chose buffet, but could have had a sit down dinner. The Hilton was very flexible in changing the room for the dinner. We originally expected to have less than 20 people for dinner. The guest list grew to over 30 and Jessica had no problem in accommodating us.
The hotel is located in a perfect part of Silver Springs for guests to get out and see some sights. It was also close to my wedding site at Brookside Gardens. I would have no problem in booking another event at the Hilton, Washington DC/Silver Spring.
Macy's Bridal Salon by Demetrios McLean, Virginia 22102
We purchased our bridesmaids' dresses from Macy's. The ordering process went rather smoothly. I found that one staff member had used the wrong chart for sizing the dresses. Fortunately, I found the problem before the order was placed. When the two piece dresses came back, we found that the skirts were significantly too large for each lady. The manager said the designer provided the size of the larger piece, so that was the cause for the large skirts. I never quite understood that. Macy's provided the alterations for a reduced cost and we greatly appreciated that. The staff was friendly and worked to ensure that we were satisfied with the dresses. I would recommend using Macy's.
We worked with the Mens Warehouse in Springfield, VA. I never felt completely comfortable with the person who helped us. She just did not seem to be on top of the situation. Everything worked out, but we had problems with the cost to rent the tuxedos, the measurements for my husband, and upon delivery, the fitting of the best man.
The problem is that there are very few places to rent tuxedos. I suggest that you keep on top of things to reduce stress.
I enjoyed working the with ladies at A Formal Affair. I'm a plus-size bride and chose A Formal Affair because of their selection of plus-size gowns and the staff. This was the 5th bridal shop visited. In addition, the bridal shop is over 40 miles from my home. What made A Formal Affair worth the trip was the attentiveness of the staff. My consultant, Andrea, helped me select my dress. I tried on around 5 dresses and then she recommended one more dress to try on. That was the one. I've never seen a dress so flattering to my figure. Andrea placed the order, the dress came back early and in March, I began my fittings. The seamstress, Patty, was wonderful and all fittings were done exceptionally well. I would highly recommend selecting A Formal Affair as the bridal shop for your gown. They make you feel very special.
I enjoyed working with the staff at Trousseau. They know their business and work to ensure a perfect fit of your wedding foundation. They also have wonderful shoes and bridal purses that can be dyed to match your wedding gown. I highly recommend them for your personal wedding garments and accessories.

I truly enjoyed working with Chris. He is so professional in how he arranges for his services and how he prepares for your ceremony. His website gives you a great view of what to expect from Chris. His song selections helped me a lot in deciding what songs to have at my ceremony.
Because of my scheduling, I did not get to hear most of Chris' playing, so I waited until I received my video to review his work. He did a magnificent job. I gave him a short list of songs to play and asked him to select the others. He is so talented and my guests truly enjoyed him. I highly recommend Chris Dunn for your ceremony.
Imagine, you are so happy on the morning of your wedding and you just don't know how it can get any better. Then, in comes Steve from 5iveStar Media Productions and the fun really begins. His entrance to the house started all of us laughing so hard that we could barely contain ourselves. From that point on, he continuously videoed our every move, but you felt no instrusion. I was totally amazed at all of the actions that he captured when I saw the final product.
I knew from the first time I met Steve, that he would add tremendously to my wedding day. He quickly became more than a videographer, he became a friend. His ability to be in your presence, yet you not see his equipment and his closeness is amazing. He caught the most precious moments of our wedding day. While Steve stayed with the bridal party, his partner, and equally as capable, Mike, was at the ceremony site. We were married at Brookside Gardens, and Mike caught the most beautiful aspects of the Gardens. He captured work done before the ceremony started as well as the guests in attendance. Steve and Mike beautifully captured the ceremony and at the reception site, despite the close quarters, did a beautiful job.
The final product, the wedding DVD, was spectacular. I was amazed at the work they did. I was able to finally see parts of my wedding that I had never seen. The montage, the choice of music, the interviews of guests and our honeymoon pictures were so well done. I was totally impressed with the package and the speed that the video was completed and sent to us. Their packaging was beautiful and so personal. Steve kept me informed throughout the process. He and Mike were both extremely professional. I received the same treatment when I talked with Jim, the owner of the company. If you want to have great fun on your wedding day and end up with a spectacular product, then I highly recommend 5iveStar Media Productions. Ask for Steve and Mike.
I had the pleasure of working with Nina at the Vienna store. She was wonderful. She helped me find invitations within my budget that matched my Victorian wedding theme and colors. They were beautiful. I also had my envelopes addressed. What a beautiful job! Not only did the young lady do a perfect printing job, she also checked for proper etiquette in addressing the envelopes and she checked some of the addresses I provided her. This greatly reduced returned invitations. I would work with The Dandelion Patch again for any stationery needs.
I purchased gift bags, cake bags, and favors from the American Wedding. The items were properly represented on-line, beautiful and of good value. I had one problem with my order and they quickly corrected it and sent out new favors. I recommend working with them.
We had the pleasure of working with Byron Sichert. He was wonderful. He came to our home to meet us and to discuss the details of our ceremony. The visit was informative and productive. His cost is very affordable and reasonable. He did conducted a wonderful and moving ceremony. Pastor Sichert promptly registered our marriage with the county. That was important for me because of needed to get started on changing my name. I recommend working with Pastor Sichert.
Mike, the owner, was easy to work with. He provided us with two 10-passenger limos. We consider his rates very reasonable, especially since we used his company during prom season. Thomas drove the limo with the bride and bridesmaid. He was extremely nice and helpful. He seemed to be the lead and stayed in touch with the groom's limo to ensure he was where he needed to be. The limos were beautiful, on time, and got us to each site as efficiently as possible. I would use them again.

Barbara was wonderful. Not only is she a great makeup artist, she's a person that helps to start your wedding day off with fun and beauty. Barbara worked with my three bridesmaids and adjusted the makeup according to how they would normally were it. None of them wore a lot of makeup normally, so Barbara had them looking beautifully natural. As for me, I received compliments all day about my makeup. She made me look simply beautiful. I felt wonderful and relaxed after she finished with me. It's amazing how well Barbara worked with all of the commotion that went on in the house. She worked well with the hair stylist, the videographer and the photographer. Barbara definitely started my day off beautifully.
