I'll never forget the day we all me on the walking tour in DC. I can't tell you how envious I am of the relationship you have, and how happy I am to be your friend. Maggiano's Little Italy - ChevyChase Washington, District Of Columbia 20015
We chose Maggiano’s because our first priority for our wedding reception was the food. We didn’t want cold chicken and asparagus, we wanted warm comfort food and we wanted it served family style. We figured, correctly, that the best way to ensure this was done well was to do it at the restaurant. Maggiano’s did what it does best and served up an ample supply of warm, delicious food for our wedding reception. The open bar had substantial offerings, and the location was perfect for guests who did not want to drive. The valet parking, which we provided for guests, was reasonably priced. Unfortunately, the company rested on its laurels and provided very poor customer service. The banquet manager we were assigned was rude, typically responding to the simplest question in a short manner. We feel that the manager, and by extension to company, took our business for granted. It got so bad that we asked to be reassigned to a different banquet manager, only to find that the new manager was just as bad. Both women were impatient and ill-tempered. In addition, the banquet managers have a tendency to schedule events too close together. In our case, our wedding reception ran right up against a bar mitzvah. When our wedding planner was allowed access to the room, it was in a shambles, just 1 hour and 30 minutes before guests were to be seated. Our wedding planner and her staff of three had to enlist the help of the bridesmaids and groomsmen to help clean and arrange the room for the wedding reception – literally, brooms in hand! Had it not been for their heroic efforts, our reception would have started much later than it did. To add insult to injury, the banquet managers only assigned 2 or 3 servers to our 150 person event! Service was slow and our guests noticed. On a final note, the banquet room was a good size for our 150 guests, but do not believe the banquet managers when they tell you that 180 people will fit comfortably! All in all, if food is your first priority for your reception, we highly recommend this restaurant. However, if you find that the banquet managers are not treating you well, contact the general manager immediately. The service will not improve on its own.
Michael was friendly, attentive, and energetic from our very first meeting to our very last encounter. We met him and his wife at a wedding show and when we interviewed him for the job a year later, his wife remembered us! That personal touch continued throughout our wedding planning process. Michael did not rely on the hard sell. His work sold itself. Michael participated in a walk through with us after he pre-scouted the church location. He also attended the rehearsal, even though it was not part of his contract. On the day of the wedding, he arrived with two other photographers, which facilitated great coverage for the size of our event and made the price well worth it. Michael focuses on a photojournalistic style, so we did not get many formal/still shots. If this is something you really want, you need to tell him. Our photos really did tell the story of our wedding day. Guests were able to sign up at the reception to obtain future access to the wedding photos. We were notified when the photos were available, given the opportunity to hide/show certain photos, and then photos were released to guests who had signed up at the reception. We were also able to send the link to family and friends who were unable to attend the wedding. As part of our package, we received two DVDs with photos of our wedding in very classy packaging. We won’t give away the surprise.
Of the vendors we hired for our wedding, this was our favorite. This vendor was recommended by our wedding planner and for that alone, we owe her a debt of gratitude! Chris at Michael’s Flowers is the best in the business. He was patient, flexible, and extremely knowledgeable. He made us feel confident that the selections we were making would be the perfect finishing touches for our event. He put together wonderful floral samples and added elements to our original ideas that really pulled everything together. Chris did not try to nickel and dime us with little service/delivery charges or other contingencies. He was honest, straight forward and, in the end, true to his word. We received a substantial amount of flowers for the money compared to the other florists we consulted. We still have several of the centerpieces in our home! Who knew the quality florals Chris purchased on our behalf would continue blooming long after our wedding day?
Please note how all of the low-rated reviews point out that cakes from here taste great, but look horrible. This was by far the worst vendor we worked with during our wedding. The company was recommended by, and paid through, the restaurant we used. We met with representatives from the company several times before ordering the cake and, due to the unique nature of our cake, expressed our nervousness over the cake choice. The vendors reassured us that we were in excellent hands and that everything would work out with the cake color and construction. In addition, we asked the cake vendor about cake ribbon which does not absorb oil and avoids color changes to the ribbon (we had been told about this by another recent bride, who used such a ribbon). The vendor told us there was no such thing and that we would be okay if we purchased ribbon for the cake that was a few shades lighter than what we wanted so that when the oil was absorbed, the color would be what we wanted. In the end, we were severely disappointed in our cake. While the taste was excellent, the outside appearance was horrendous! The cake was the wrong color (a neon blue instead of a barely-noticeable ice blue, and we had provided them a swatch of fabric in the desired ice blue); it was of very poor quality construction, with blobs of piping at the base of the ribbon and uneven icing; and the ribbon on the cake, which was supposed to be brown, had absorbed so much oil that it looked black. We were mortified by the 3-foot monstrosity that sat in the middle of our wedding reception. The cake is immortalized in both the photographer’s pictures and in those taken by our guests. We are going to ask the photographer to only show the cake in black and white in our wedding album so that at the very least we do not have to look at the color. To add insult to injury, when we called the company to complain and ask for a partial refund, the owner was unwilling to compromise and accused us of trying to extort money from them! It was bad enough that when we called, the vendor knew immediately what cake we were calling to complain about, but to be insulted on top of it really “took the cake”. I would never recommend this vendor to anyone. They are all about making a quick buck and getting over on poor couples. They promise things and because of the myriad of salespeople you deal with, no one has any idea of what the final product should look like! Don’t waste your money here. As with any bridal warehouse, the David’s Bridal in Rockville was a zoo! Having visited the store several times over our long engagement, I had the opportunity to work with various attendants. Some were good, others not so good. The experience depends almost entirely on who is assigned to your dressing room. In the end, however, it was worth it for access to a large variety of dresses and a relatively inexpensive gown.
We hired Jake after using WeddingWire to identify and interview several other DJs. We selected him because of our confidence in his ability to accommodate a crowd with a myriad of races, ethnicities, ages, and musical preferences. Jake worked closely with us and our planner to prepare for our event. He was extremely patient and provided plenty of guidance without being overbearing. He incorporated many of our personal selections and mixed in other, crowd-pleasing songs. He also ended up being a great value since he brought along some additional lighting for our dark venue at no additional cost to us. Jake did an excellent job of keeping the crowd dancing until the very end of the evening. To this day, people are telling us that ours was the most fun they have ever had at a wedding reception. Jake deserved the credit for that!
This vendor was recommended to us by our wedding planner. The staff was professional and courteous. The vehicles were clean. The driver was knowledgeable of the area and got the wedding party across town in traffic in no time. Food and drinks, including alcohol, were permitted on the bus, which afforded us the opportunity to feed our wedding party on the way to the reception. This was a great value for the money. We highly recommend this vendor.
We hired Tara after using WeddingWire to identify and interview several other wedding planners. We were searching for a partial wedding planner to help us in the three months leading up to the event, after we had booked our reception venue, photographer, and church. After meeting Tara, we knew we had met our planner. She was courteous, but not a push over- a must when dealing with our large families. She had experience, but was open to our suggestions and really listened to our concerns. Tara assisted us with recommendations for floral, linen, and transportation vendors. She arranged meetings with the vendors and, when necessary, drew up contracts on our behalf. She worked with us to develop an overall plan for the event- tying up loose ends and finalizing decisions. She developed the schedule for the day-of and communicated it to the wedding party and vendors. She helped us assemble wedding favors, monitored our vendor payment schedule, and helped us avoid wedding-etiquette bombshells! She and her staff provided on-site coordination and saved the day when banquet coordinators at the reception site scheduled two events too close together, leaving inadequate time to prepare the room for our event. Tara and her staff stepped in and cleaned and decorated the room so the event remained essentially on schedule. They literally had brooms in-hand! Tara’s services were an excellent value for the money. She brought a team of three planners with her on the day of our event. She was friendly, flexible, and willing to go above and beyond her contract to make us happy. We highly recommend Tara. Get her while you can, because once she realizes what a deal she is giving you, it might be too late!
