Strong Mansion and the surrounding grounds are gorgeous. If you have your wedding here, you won't be disappointed. We had the ceremony on the steps which back up to a reflecting pool. There are lots of flowers and green plants, so you don't need to bring any ceremony decorations. We had dinner and dancing under the tent, and took a lot of our pictures down the hill in their garden. It's really an incredible spot for photos. The rental fee is only for 7 hours and you have to add additional hours for set up and clean up. The rental fee does include a lighted tent, which was a huge bonus. That makes it quite comparable in cost to the county rental properties in VA and MD, but it's such a nicer place! And it's much cheaper than other beautfiul places in the area - I did a lot of comparing. Patsy, the day of help (she's not really your DOC, but helps with keeping things on schedule, lining people up, etc.) was great. She did an awesome job talking us through our rehearsal, which we had to do under the tent because it was pouring rain the day before the wedding. It's best to call them to get a response - email communication was sporadic. And book early - we booked 13 months in advance and there was only 1 Saturday slot in September left!
The food and service at our wedding were amazing! I reviewed 4 proposals, and Festive Foods came the closest to my budget (although all caterers in the DC area are overpriced, in my opinion). This was mainly because they gave me a good deal on the linens and equipment if I signed by a certain date. They did a wonderful job setting everything up and making it look beautiful. And they really catered to the bride and groom - every time I turned around a waiter was offering me a drink or something else. They had a lovely plate of hor devours waiting for us after the ceremony and again after our pictures, as well as a tray full of drinks for our wedding party after the ceremony. All of guests thought the food and service were impeccable. I'd highly recommend them - I worked with Eduardo. They also did our cake - it was delicious and pretty.
When my fiance and I booked Beth a year before our wedding, we knew she was relatively new to wedding photography. However, the photos of the few weddings she had done were amazing, as were her street and family shots on her website. We were tired of getting price quotes that were well above our budget, and Beth's price was just right for us, so we decided to book her.
What a great decision! Beth was very friendly and organized. She mapped out a timeline of the formal shots that I wanted a few weeks before the wedding. She had never photographed at my site before, so she met me there to check out the space and to do a walkthrough.
On the big day, Beth was on time and ready to go. She blended in nicely with the crowd; I practically never saw the camera flash. She got some amazing candid photos of us and our guests. Her photos captured the beauty, intimacy and excitement of night, and we couldn't be more thrilled with her work!
Beth posted about 45 photos on her website for us to see the DAY AFTER the wedding - so quick! She had the complete set of photos ready in a few weeks, which she posted online and sent to us on a CD. We have full rights to all the photos, which is very important.
I'd highly recommend hiring Beth to photograph your wedding - you won't be disappointed!
I absolutely LOVED my bouquet. It was vibrant and beautiful and the flowers even looked amazing the following day! They did a wonderful job with our centerpieces (we had submerged flowers), and we received many compliments on them. The bridesmaid bouquets and the bouts and corsages were great as well. They made 2 separate deliveries at no extra charge - one to the hotel and one to the site - and they were on time, if not a little early! I visited 3 florists and Da Vinci?s was most willing to work within my budget. I worked with Sharone, who was very flexible. I did make a few changes along the way, and he was great with that. I did have to call/email multiple times to get a response on a few occasions, hence the 4 stars for responsiveness. I would definitely recommend them.
I found my dress here after going to 6 other shops. They had a lot of dresses in a range of prices. They have a lot of Maggie dresses, which I loved. I worked with the shop owner, Beth, and she kept the store open 45 minutes past closing time to work with me. She also found the perfect dress for me once I described a few dresses I was trying to decide between. However, the alterations were very expensive. And the one button wouldn't snap/fit on my wedding day! (We discovered that at my last fitting - not sure if she fixed it or not or if my size changed in those 3 weeks.) Luckily, it was a corset back, so it made no difference.
Jake did a fabulous job as the deejay at our wedding. He worked the ceremony and the reception. He had a separate system for the ceremony and also provided a wireless microphone and a separate mic for our reader. His timing is excellent and he is very flexible and professional. He was great at moving the night along and making sure we were happy with how the night was going. We had some obscure music selections, and Jake either found them or we sent files for him to download and use. He worked within our budget as well. We'd highly recommend him!
Chariots for Hire had the lowest hourly rates for motor coaches and large vans out of the 5 or 6 other transportation companies I called. Their drivers were well dressed, pleasant, and on time. They were very flexible when I called to change my rental vehicle a few weeks before the wedding. They also do everything over the phone/email with electronic contracts, which is helpful. I highly suggest using them!
