My husband and I chose the Vandiver Inn mainly based on the reviews on this website, so we figured we should pay it forward. We absolutely loved the Vandiver Inn! From the incredibly nice, friendly, professional, and problem solving staff, to the delicious food, to the beautiful Inn and grounds, it was the perfect place for our wedding. And somehow it was actually in our price range, which really doesn't make much sense!
Some of our family was a little annoyed about driving an hour for the wedding, but after getting there we heard nothing but praise! Everyone LOVED the food, and couldn't get over how unique and beautiful it was. Also, Havre de Grace is just a great town, with a cute waterfront downtown area, and a beautiful lighthouse and pier that worked out so well for picture taking before the big event!
One tip if booking with the Vandiver is always to underestimate the amount of guests you think will attend, and the number of guests you think will book rooms in case people back out. They have a very strict policy with it, which is justifiable, but it's just good to be aware of how strict it is going in.
But overall we had an amazing time! There were so many little details that just made it sooooo wonderful! Like they change the sign out front to say Congrats [insert names here], and they have champagne and your dinner waiting for you in your room in case you didn't eat enough...John even made us a breakfast to go box since we told him that we were leaving at 4am to drive five hours back to the military base (military didn't think my hubby needed the day off after our wedding). And Chasi is amazing!! At first she came off a little strong for me, but I think she reads people well because she toned it down and was like a lifesaver! She bustled my dress, coordinated everything, reminded of us simple details. Example: at the end of the night, all of our wedding stuff and gifts and everything was spread in several hotel rooms, she was able to tell us exactly what corner of which rooms specific items were in!!! Anyways, point is, we have no regrets and still can't stop thinking about how wonderful our wedding at the Vandiver Inn was.
We chose Amanda's mainly because of location, but in the end we were so happy with the quality and service! I'm not really into flowers and never dreamed of what I would have on my wedding day, so I thought Amanda's process for helping you create your bouquet and arrangements was just awesome! She really listened to me and through her process of using the books and descriptions got me to figure out what it was I really wanted and what my style was!
The whole group was great with responding when I would call and have random questions, and Amanda was so great in helping me with the centerpieces! At first I thought we wanted to do something ourselves and have her throw some flowers around it, but in the end I told her it was just too hard and too stressful and asked her what the cheapest centerpiece she could make me was. She was awesome in brainstorming what to do, and I was in shock at how beautiful my random creations turned out on the wedding day!
On the day of they arrived so promptly and just had a happy presence that was a welcome relief in my last moments of stress. The flowers were incredibly beautiful and Amanda explained what to do with them in her calm voice. We got a ton of compliments, and at the end a bunch of people were asking if they could take home the centerpieces....I had to have someone put one aside for me before we ran out! Overall, we loved working with Amanda's and would definitely recommend it.
We went to desserts by Rita because they work directly through the Vandiver Inn (but they also work on their own as well). So we were a little nervous because the cake is included with the venue's package and we didn't know how good it would be. But WOW!
They are so nice and set up a really nice cake tasting with you, and will answer the question, "what flavor is this again?" like a million times still with a smile on their faces. And even though we had our cake included in the package, we still got to choose the flavor and style and design, and we didn't feel limited at all in selection!
We went with a cupcake cake, which allowed us to get a ton of flavors. And the top layer was a mini cake that we got to take home. It came out beautifully!!! We got so many compliments on the design, as well as the taste! We saw people taking some home with them and in the end there were none left, so obviously they were popular! In the end we were super happy with Rita's.
Ok, so just to be clear, I read these horrible reviews first and decided that I would never ever let the bridal boutique touch my dress for alterations. So this review is JUST on the dresses themselves and the actual boutique part.
If you are on a budget, it is impossible to find selection!! I wasn't even going to go here after the reviews, but I would go into several places and only be able to try on four dresses because of my price range. Oh and I didn't go to David's Bridal, though I'm sure I would've found ones I could afford there.
So when I got to the bridal boutique, I was soooo relieved!!! They had a huge selection of very cheap dresses ($200-$800). And what made it even better, was that they were actually real-life people sizes!!! Like instead of all of the other boutiques that only had sizes 0 and 2, these dresses were 10 and 12. So you could actually buy it off the rack, at a crazy low price!! I thought that the girl helping me was very sweet and helpful, and told me about all the sales and stuff.
I ended up finding my dream dress...something super simple and easy to walk in but with something different about it, for $200!!! And it fit me perfectly off the rack! Well....ok, not perfect, but definitely doable with some small alterations. Honestly, I loved it, but there were so many other dresses that I had a hard time narrowing it down.
So I bought the dress, and immediately took it out of that store and never went back. I couldn't risk getting killed with the alteration prices there, or have them ruin my dress. The only thing is, since it was off the rack it needed a cleaning (it had a stain that they tried to get out, which made it even worse!), and needed some bead repair. But I went to a real seamstress and she fixed it up and made it fit beautifully, and so with the alterations plus what I paid for the dress I still hadn't paid the original price of the dress!
I guess my advice would be, go here to shop, and if you find something you love, get it! Just take it to someone else for alterations and storage....oh and look really hard for stains!!
