We had our wedding reception at Waterford Springfield on July 3, 2009. We would definitely recommend this location for your reception in Northern VA. They were very professional, agreeable, helpful, and organized. There were so many things that they handled with ease that we hadn't even thought about. It was nice to have everything covered! We used the Singleton room for the reception, and I think it was the Gibson for the cocktail hour. The cocktail room had leather chairs and a fireplace, with classical music piped in. The reception room was also very nice and they did a nice job setting it up as we specified. I think there were a few tables with the incorrect number of chairs, but everyone had a seat so it wasn't a problem. There was one "captain" at the reception who made sure everything went smoothly and touched base with us throughout the reception in a non-intrusive way. Louis was our main contact and he was very helpful and easy to work with, but the other associates were also great. We had about 110 people in the Singleton room for the reception. It said they could seat up to 160, which would have been very crowded. If you use this venue, choose a room with much room to grow, you don't want the tables to be too packed in there, with a small dance floor (our dance floor was a great size). The food was excellent and the drinks were great as well. They offered good name brand liquors, as well as beer and wine. I think there was a line for the bar, but we (as the bride and groom) were served our food and drinks. The only downside of the Waterford Springfield is its location. Although it is convenient to many people since it is right off 495, it is in the mixing bowl area of Springfield, which was confusing for some of our guests. Also, it is not scenic at all outside of the venue, but inside you feel like you are somewhere else and that no longer matters. We felt that it was a great value compared to what else we had seen in the Northern VA area. Our wedding was on a Friday, so they offered a discounted rate. We would recommend Waterford Springfield to our friends!

I was very pleased with the service and quality of the arrangements by Flower Den. They were very agreeable and flexible. We really had no idea what we wanted, but were on budget, so value mattered. They really worked with us in figuring out what kinds of flowers to have at a good price. They were not pushy whatsoever about encouraging us to pay more than we wanted. I changed my mind three or more times, each time they changed the order without hesitation. We added and removed items within the week prior, with no questions asked. We used them for loose flowers for our centerpieces, bouquets and boutineres, cake topper, and two arrangements for the chapel. All turned out beautiful and they even added additional flowers to the bridesmaids bouquets that were not part of our quoted price (at no additional charge). We did not have the items delivered, a friend picked them up. Everything was ready to go at the time they specified. In hearing what others have paid for their flowers, we were very pleased with the quality of the flowers at a reasonable price. We would certainly use Flower Den again and recommend it to local friends and family.

We used The Lace Music for our reception DJ. Tony was our DJ and he did a fantastic job. We danced like crazy all night long, and our guests had a wonderful time. He was the MC for the event, and was very professional. He did not talk too much and was not too cheezy like some wedding DJs we've witnessed. He was correct on the vast majority of the pronunciations of wedding party names and on the timing of songs, etc. We did a surprise choreographed dance at the reception and it was crucial that he introduce it as we asked, and play the song correctly, which he did. He fazed out the first dances at good times, so the reception could move along. Through our wedding website, our guests requested song in advance. We passed them on to Tony. He did not play them all, but did play the "must play" songs we had indicated. The dinner music was nice as well. The value was very good compared to other other quotes we had received. We would certainly recommend The Lace Music.

Reverend Jim Burch officiated our wedding and we were very pleased with his services. Once we met him, we knew he was the right person to lead our ceremony. He is incredibly nice and down-to-earth. Although were were both raised Catholic, we were not having the wedding in a Catholic Church. Jim Burch suited us well in that respect. He could provide the sacrament of marriage in the Catholic sense, but his ideas and philosophies were more spiritual and liberal in nature. When we were booking him, it was very easy to get our questions answered quickly. The initial meeting and the final meetings in his home went smoothly. Jim does not recommend a rehearsal with him the day before; we held one of our own at the rehearsal dinner with notes he provided us. I think you are able to schedule one with him if you feel that it is vital (not sure there is an additional fee or not). Although our wedding party had the basic idea of who goes where when, he touched base with everyone briefly right before the ceremony and then whispered and guestured instructions as we went along, in a non-disruptive way. For the ceremony itself, it was nice to be able to pick and choose the elements that were important to us, and that the wording suited us, but still have the basic structure set. The ceremony was lovely. It is very clear that he has done this MANY times, but it felt very personal. We used two of his recommended readings and there wasn't a dry eye in the place. Most of the ceremony was in language everyone could understand and relate to. The only part that we did not love was the homily (sermon). It was a bit lengthy and impersonal. I think he lost some of our guests. It was an interesting topic, and was spiritual in nature, with an overtone of science, rather than overly religious, but for a 30 minute cermony, it was a bit long winded. However, we got great comments from our guests about how nice and personal the ceremony was overall, and there was certainly a lot of love being expressed throughout it all--between us (bride and groom) and simple ways to include our friends and family in the experience. The cost was comparable to other officiants we explored. One difficulty we had with Jim was getting our program in the final weeks. He told us we would get a version of a program sent electronically that we could add or subtract from to make our own. We were looking forward to using this as a starting point. We had to remind him a few times for it and ended up getting it 2 or 3 weeks after we were told we would have it. However, we did recieve it with enough time to complete our programs, so everything worked out in the end. Overall, we would definitely recommend Reverend Jim Burch as an officiant, especially for someone who wants an a ceremony that is in between a religious and a civil ceremony, and that really focuses on the love that is being shared.
