We chose to have our reception at the Heritage Center because of the simple beauty of the site. I'm thankful we did! Not only was the site stunning and elegant, but we received extraordinary service from Joyce, the planner. She assisted us with seating arrangements, as well as color choices of linens, and referrals. The Heritage is beautiful for any and all photographs you plan to have taken. You can use the small garden, or the brick wall which turned out some stunning photos. The staff during the reception was amazing! You rarely saw anyone, but everything ran so smoothly. The Heritage was a wonderful venue for our reception!
Country Kitchen Catering 4915 Riverside Rd, Coloma, Michigan
For our catering needs, we really didn't look any further than Bob and Country Kitchen. We had used them previously for anniversary and birthday events we hosted, so we knew exactly what to expect. Bob and his staff were both kind and professional from the moment we met. We had a tasting event at their location, and Bob was helpful in suggesting lots of options for us. My main concern was whether they had the staff we needed to serve appetizers and dinners to 200 people. I shouldn't have worried. The staff at the reception was pleasant to each and every guest, and they did a wonderful job getting the food out in a timely fashion. Not only did we have served appetizers and plated dinner, but each guest received their own chocolate-covered strawberry. To top the food off, we had fruit shish kabobs "planted" in wheat grass to go along with the wedding cake. (Country Kitchen was also a preferred vendor of our reception site). The food looked amazing, tasted wonderfully, and was handled in the upmost professional manner. I cannot rave about them enough!
Paul Retherford was our first and only choice for photography at our September wedding. The images he captured are breathtaking and beautiful. We found Paul first online and were extremely impressed by his website. The albums he chose to display showed the vast range of emotions at all weddings - the happiness, the beauty, the love, and the laughter. He was able to capture them all! When we met Paul for the first time (he was not from our local area), he was professional and you could tell he loves his job. We reviewed his portfolio, which included wonderful samplings of the many weddings he has photographed. All the wedding magazines tell you not to interview just one photographer; they also tell you to make sure you hire someone who has an assistant also taking photos. To that I say, "You haven't met Paul." He was the only one who shot our wedding, but he got everything! There are images during the wedding from the front of the church, from overhead, and from the back. The reception photos included everything from dancing to pictures of tables to food to other vendors. Paul did not miss a thing! We feel so completely blessed to have had the opportunity to work with Paul. He captured some of the most beautiful pictures of the wedding party at Lake Michigan after the wedding and before the reception. We had a wonderful time and each time we look through the photos, we find a new favorite. I cannot recommend Paul highly enough. His work will blow you away. Trust me!
Image this: you're in Mexico on vacation and find the perfect flower arrangement for your reception. You take a digital picture of it because you're no flower petal guru. You get the image home and take it to two different florists to have it replicated for your wedding. No dice. The flower shops weren't interested in the picture; they couldn't identify the flower so they wanted to change it into something they could do or already had done. As a last resort, I went to Tara. I'm so glad I did! Not only did Tara Florist take the time to look at the picture, but they were able to make suggestions as to the type of flower to use. To top that, they even made two trial arrangements for me to take home and show other members involved in the wedding. They were so reasonably priced, too! My arrangements were the most beautful flowers. Image 50 red carnations in the shape of big ball. The ball then rested on the top of 24 inch glass vases and had ribbons hanging inside the glass. BEAUTIFUL!! Tara Florist exceeded my expecations with their dedication to helping me create my perfect centerpieces. They have now become my "go to" shop for all my floral needs!
Wouldn't you know, it would be the LAST place I looked before I found my dress. Dress shopping started in Michigan City, Indiana and stretched to Kalamazoo, hitting stores in South Bend, Stevensville, and Paw Paw in between. When I first started looking for wedding dresses, I window shopped at the Alexa Claire/Tux Shop store in Kalamazoo, but never ventured inside. It was getting close to a "need-to-order-a-dress-in-a-hurry" date, so I decided to actually to in the store to look at their selection. Why did I wait!?!?!?! My first time in, I found the perfect dress. I went back three times to try it on and was convinced it was the one! Success! I was shocked at how reasonably priced my gown was. Beautiful can only descibe it so much. The staff was helpful and encouraging. The best part was AC/TTS offered a custom veil event. I was able to wear the dress and consult with a veil maker about a ton of styles/options for a veil. It was wonderful one-stop shopping! (Big bonus - the designer of the dress happened to be in the store one day, so I got the chance to meet her)!
Having previously worked with Music Express on work functions, I requested their service first. I didn't spend a long time searching for a DJ; we checked with a few people who were outrageously priced and nixed them pretty quickly. Music Express, a local company, was our go to DJ service. At first, Zack was going to DJ for us, but we ended up with Mark. Mark did a wonderful job getting people involved in the reception - not just the dancing part, but also recognizing the wedding party and restarting music when people wanted to redo the Electric Slide. Mark was a great person to have on point - he kept the evening flowing and was very professional. It's a nice added touch that the Music Express DJs wear tuxedos! Mark was also very flexible, which came in handy when we were late getting to the venue! Their service is extremely well priced and competitive. I would hire them again in a second!
