The club was among one of the more frugal sites we looked into, was fully decorated for Christmas already, conveniently located and surprisingly did not require membership or booking fees. We dealt with three different catering managers over the course of planning through the year. I’m not sure if most places have this much turnover of staff. Overall, we were very happy with Mauricio, the final catering manager. The transfer of information from staff member to staff member sorted itself out in the end.
Because we opted out of the alcoholic bar, we saved about $20/pp. Instead, we had hot apple cider served during hors d’oeuvres and unlimited sparkling juice for toasting. The food was amazing; we were able to offer our guests 3 options (beef, chicken and vegetarian), in addition to hors d’oeuvres, salad, soup and dessert. The service was impeccable.
I was really glad we booked with him, despite never actually meeting him prior to our wedding day. We liked the style of his photos, which combined a mixture of posed and candid shots. We chose to have our formal photos taken in Historic Unionville, which was a lovely backdrop with the fresh snow. In addition to the 45 minutes we spent with the bridal party (and some time to warm up indoors!), Byron spent an additional 45 minutes with us running from site to site in town to get the right shots. We've just seen our online album and love it!
We worked via email and spoke on the phone a couple of times before I met her briefly to pick up a trial bouquet. At the time, her wholesaler had forgotten to include gerbera daisies in her order that day, and Fran and her husband ended up running around town on the day of the trial in order to make my trial bouquet.
I was thrilled with how the bouquets turned out on the day of. The bouquets held up for outdoor pictures (-18°C + windchill) and only had a touch of frostbite on them by the end. The corsages and boutonnieres also looked great. I didn’t end up tossing the toss bouquet, but gave it to my flowergirl who was thrilled to have a bouquet that looked like mine. Fran threw in a bag of rose petals as well, which came into handy to decorate the cake table. Fran Sackler Floral Designs responded with the the following comments: Thanks Hon, it was a pleasure working with you.
At our meeting, we went over her many gorgeous designs, and she sent us home with a box filled with samples. It was so hard to decide! She also gave us the idea for the unique cake topper. Guests were really impressed by the look and taste of the cake.
With three bridesmaids in three different cities, it was impossible to arrange a time to meet and try dresses together. We found a Watters & Watters 2-piece gown online that the 3 of them could agree on, and we ordered through Netbride in August (estimated delivery in November). The dresses arrived in October in great condition. The three of them all had to have alterations, but very minor (hemming the skirt, taking in the bust, etc). I estimate that we saved over $100/dress.
I had originally wanted to go the DIY route, but was unable to find something that matched what I had in mind. Susan and her graphic designer were able to make the most fabulous invitations for me. They were on par, if not cheaper than many of the other places I looked at, considering the number that I had to order.
