What I love most about this venue is its unique modern style. My husband and I looked into a number of venues and were about to settle for one that we really didn't agree on 100%, but that was right before we came upon a magazine ad for this boutique hotel. We made an appointment to check it out, and upon arriving knew that this was where we needed to celebrate our wedding day. However, we did have one main concern: the size of the veranda. I have a large family, and my mom would want to share this day with some of her friends, too. But, it came down to what we most preferred. And the good news was the size turned out to be a non-issue: it was perfect for our 150 guests and provided an intimate gathering for our closest family and friends (including some of my mom's!). The hotel staff worked with us on the decor, food, vendors, and all the details. They were prompt, responsive, and overall very professional. Minh, the banquet manager, was also very easy to work with. He helped with the set-up of the veranda and projector and ensured the bar and food service was running smoothly throughout the evening. The one issue we did have was the portion of the food. We went with a plated dinner, and the portions were much smaller in size than what we had at our tasting and were told to expect. However, that aside, our guests really enjoyed the venue just as much as we did, and we are happy with our decision to go with the Alden.
Elena Nikova has a talent in flower arrangements, and it clearly shows in her work. She is a dedicated professional and really strives to meet your requests. One of my requests was to tie a bloom to the back of each chair with ribbon (in an effort to match the garden-like style of my venue). She agreed and did that by hand herself for all 150 chairs. I was impressed with the consistency of her work, especially for one pair of hands; I noticed no loose bloom or lack of effort. The flowers she used were fresh and diverse - from my altar arrangements to each bouquet. Her prices are reasonable and she really worked with me when I shared my budget constraints. We received a lot of compliments on our flowers, and I highly recommend her.
My husband and I both have a sweet tooth - but not to the extent where the sweetness overpowers the true flavors of the cake. That is why we decided to go with Le Duc. We've ordered birthday cakes there before and knew their flavors were solid but were a little unsure of how their wedding cakes would turn out. At the cake tasting, we were able to decide on a design we both liked (simple yet elegant fondant style), two flavors that would alternate on the layers of the cake (mocha and pandan), and a price we found incredibly reasonable. We put our faith in Le Duc, and they really did meet expectations. I wouldn't say the cake was perfect because it was slightly slanted, but the design itself was beautiful and as close to its picture in the album. Since most vendors put a huge premium for anything with "wedding" attached to it, I really felt that our cake had the best value. I highly recommend Le Duc (for birthday cakes too!).
I had a wonderful experience with Now & Forever. I realized what a picky bride I was when I went thru about 80 gowns at other shops before I stopped in at N&F and found the gown that I loved. The boutique is pretty small but the quality and style of their gowns fit what I was seeking. I mainly dealt with Vo, who is very knowledgeable about fabrics, styles, and what fits well with certain body shapes. After the wedding, I also had my gown preserved by them - they outsource to a cleaners in NYC, and I was very happy with the final product.
Who would have thought a married couple would make great business partners? I didn't until I met Ferdy and Wendy, who make an excellent business duo. They are professionals who also care a great deal about your wedding. Ferdy was in charge of the music and accommodated my Maid of Honor's numerous requests very well. Wendy played MC and, without being too involved in orchestrating the wedding events, did her job well in getting one event after another to occur in a fashionable order. They were both very sweet and fun people, and played all the right music to get my guests on the dance floor. The dancing was definitely a highlight at my wedding and it wouldn't have been without a great DJ team.
Tim Tse was a great videographer to work with. He was incredibly flexible to the demands of my wedding (large family, special requests, showed up to rehearsal for set-up). My church had restrictions on the use of videography (no visible camera or cameraperson during ceremony), and Tim and his assistant did their best to respect those restrictions while thinking of ways to capture the moments for us. Tim was professional, punctual and always responsive to my questions, concerns and requests. My husband and I were extremely happy with the final product - the dvd was well organized into separate chapters and included appropriate music (both my input as well as Tim's own selection). After having compared various videographers when I was making a decision on selecting one, I can say that Tim is very affordable for the product he delivers. I highly recommend Tim for any wedding.
I loved working with Mary from Invitations Source. She provided the invitations, programs, name cards, menus, table #s, and thank you cards for us. I am very particular with grammar and spacing, etc.... and I think I really tested Mary's patience in revising draft after draft when certain things just didn't look right to me. She worked with me professionally through all of that without complaint. The end products were executed flawlessly, and I can't thank her enough for all her help. The biggest plus is her pricing - she doesn't have a limit on # of lines in the invitation or tack on extra charges for random requests. For fair warning, I would just say that her shop is not what you might expect of a wedding vendor; it's located in a somewhat sketchy shopping center and overall just really plain, but that's where her fair pricing comes in - she doesn't spend money on the frills of a shop but gets you your invitations at a reasonable price. Highly recommended.
After doing a cost-comparison of a few limo vendors, I found that Advantage Limousine was the most reasonably priced for the white stretch Hummer we were looking for. I dealt with Tony in getting the terms set up, and he was very easy to work with. The main request I had was that I absolutely did not want their logo displayed along the rear window or anywhere on the stretch during our transportation. He promised that it wouldn't, and true to his word, the stretch was clear of that. Other plus-es include that our driver was punctual, professional, and with the help of a GPS, did not get lost! We had two tea ceremonies at different locations, and he was very good about parking in a somewhat tight neighborhood street and waiting patiently for us. Our schedule for the day was packed and because of the promptness of service, we were able to get to all our destinations in reasonable time.

Out of all the wedding details to consider, make-up was at the top of my list for what I was most apprehensive about. On a day-to-day basis, I wear light make-up. But, when I get "made-up" professionally (rewind to prom and Glamour Shots), I look awful - clownish. My face just can't take that much make-up, and a lot of beauticians fail to recognize that. I first heard about Sylvia from a friend who had gotten married the year before. My friend has the same problem with make-up that I do, and I distinctly remember being very impressed with her wedding make-up. My mom and I went to Sylvia for a trial session (it costs money, but well worth it to avoid any surprises on your big day), and we both loved the work she did. She took her time (we were there for 2.5+ hours), and we really valued her advice on make-up (products and how to apply), skin, and overall how to take care of our faces. She admitted to me that my face really cannot take that much make-up - refreshing to hear from a beautician! Her credentials include working with Destiny's Child and models - the pictures she has up on her wall are proof. I couldn't be happier with Sylvia's work - she did a great job on my mom and me and even offered a few tips to my bridesmaids as we were all getting ready together. I'm very happy with the make-up and even happier to have pictures to remember it by for a lifetime.
