On A Mission to Find THE Dress!
When searching for the perfect wedding dress, timing is everything! Start the search about 8-11 months before your wedding and allow yourself plenty of time to look at different dresses at different locations. Keep in mind that most bridal salons do not accept walk-ins, so make appointments before attempting to go shopping. If you are looking for a less hectic experience, make your appointment for a weekday. Weekends can be too crazy!
Keep in mind, bridal sizes run one to two sizes smaller than your normal clothing. Each manufacturer has its own sizing chart. Ask your salesperson to see the size chart before ordering the dress.
If possible, it is typically better to have alterations done in-store. Once you take the gown, you assume all responsibility for anything that goes wrong. Wherever you have the dress altered, bring all undergarments and the shoes you will be wearing on your wedding day to ensure the proper sizing.
If your gown has a train, ask your tailor to add a bustle so that you can dance at the reception. Designate one of your friends or family members to bustle your dress before the reception. This person should attend your last fitting so she knows exactly what to do.
Don't go overboard with your accessories, they should complement your dress. If you have a very detailed design on your gown, it might be best to use the minimalist approach with everything else. The location, season, and formality of your event should also play a part in your accessorizing. A cathedral veil may not be a good idea for a summer wedding at the beach!
