makes me think of christmas ...

Opal says...
I can't imagine using this for a wedding since it's about adultery ("Alas, my love, you do me wrong/To cast me off discourteously") but it is a beautiful melody.

I know huh.... I love the melody too...

Tara says...
This is called, "what child is this" its a christmas song.

Valerie says...
@ Tara, it is both actually. I never even knew that it had the Christmas version until I was older. I think it will have whatever association from the way you first experience it.

Some lyrics from Greensleeve....

Alas, my love, you do me wrong,

Your vows you've broken, like my heart,

And yet thou wouldst not love me.

Ah, Greensleeves, now farewell, adieu,

Love the song

Joy says...
It was Greensleeves first. A lot of the melodies used in Christian hymns is not original to the song, don't shoot me for saying this, but Christians stole a lot of things. Christmas was originally a pagan holiday, if you read the story of in the bible carefully you will realize that the shepherds would have never been out in the fields with their sheep in the middle of winter. They just made Christmas in December to compete with the pagan holiday. Rude.
