does anyone have any ideas for themes for a wedding? we are just starting to plan ours and are drawing a blank when it comes to our theme. any ideas and suggestions would be appreciated.
Most weddings do not have themes just choice colors. More often than not people just stick to their season or if they are getting married on a holiday they may choose a theme. But if a theme is what you are going for you can do a beach theme since you are getting married in the summer.
I have also heard of people doing Disney themes, western themes, country themes, Mardi Gras themes, wine themes or 1920's themes. Where are you having your reception? That can help determine a theme.
well we kind of wanted a theme for it. i know a lot of people dont do them but we liked the idea of one. i like stars which he is fine with, but i also would love to incorporate his laotian heritage. plus i have been researching themes online and theres art themes (which i love since i am an art teacher), romantic themes, etc. i just wanted some more ideas we could choose from so we could have the "perfect" wedding for us.
we didnt want a traditional wedding or have a "normal" theme like a beach theme either, though. as for our reception, we dont have a place as of right now. we are trying to plan everything like colors and themes and what were going to make (i prefer homemade to store bought) and how were going to set up. im still looking up places to have the reception and everything like caterers, florists, etc. im just researching everything before hand so its not as much to go through as the time gets close.
Our theme was Hearts (love). I knew it would be had to find heart items closer to our wedding, so I bought everything I could during Valentine's. Our colors were red and pink (pastel).
A theme is usually the start of what the bride and groom's likes are. People will do a sports themed wedding when both of them are diehard Yankees fans or Eagles fans, etc. So for instance, you like stars and his heritage, combine them both, do google seaches for them together or separate and see what you come up with, as far as the Art goes, just an idea here but you could use favorite paintings you love as your table names :) You could do a theme like 'Art in the Stars', and have a sky-star background with a piece of your favorite art as the main item. Just some ideas :)
as far as colors go, i definitely want some blue and purple in there somewhere which is why i was thinking stars. it would be so easy to incorporate stars and those colors. but i really want laotian items, too, like flowers, artwork, just things like that. i have always loved asian things like fans, umbrellas, etc. and want to incorporate those laotian things into it, too. its just so hard to incorporate all of that into one. how am i supposed to incorporate stars and laotian heritage? i love the idea of the star background with the artwork as the main piece...i could use a laotian piece of art for that, but where and how else would i incorporate that into it?
i love the star idea. there is alot that you can do w/that. You can have your theme be a night under the stars or a stary night. and you can have floating star candles in a martini glass (oversized. your table covers can be purple. I would do a lavender and sky blue if i were you. you can have a cookie buffet and have the cookies a star shape. give out sky vodka mini's as your favors w/personalized shot glasses. look on Orientaltrading.com you can get alot of things there for cheap. You can also have sky blue lanterns in the middle og your table w/a tealight candle in it as a centerpiece idea. Good Luck
Our theme is circled around us. We chose our colors based on our zodiac. He's a fire sign and I am water so we have blue and orange as our colors which also works for summer which is the only time we can get married. Because we are both from Texas, not only are we getting married there, our venue is a beautiful and very eclectic ranch which, just by chance) has our colors everywhere! It's all been falling together since then. We are also incorporating our theatre background into it. :)
those are all such great ideas! i am really looking into star items for it and have found tons of ideas! does anyone have any ideas for incorporating laotian heritage into the star theme?
those are all awesome ideas! i have been looking for items to match the star theme and have found tons of things and great ideas! does anyone have an idea, however, to incorporate the laotian heritage into the star theme? i already know that during the ceremony we are going to do some laotian customs and traditions but i want to have it in with the decorations and theme itself. i want there to be laotian items in the place where we are going to hold our reception along with the star theme. i just dont know how to do that. any ideas?
We're blending our cultures, Mexican (his roots) and American (my roots), along with India/China style because of my interest in yoga, etc. So our decor, food etc with reflect that... papel picado (http://www.etsy.com/shop.php?user_id=5895791), pinata for the kiddos, candles (http://www.lunabazaar.com/yellow-damask-print-rice-paper-votive-holder.aspx), etc. I don't know much about the Laotian culture other than the Hmong tribe and that Buddhism is the main religion. I just read that rice is important in Laos religiously and culturally. You could incorporate prayer flags with stars maybe. I would find out more about his culture/family traditions and blend that with the star theme.
Kefitz, We had a Celestial themed wedding in September. I have pics on my boards if you would like to go look to get ideas. email me if you would like more info.
i love the idea of using the national flower! its so gorgeous! definitely is going to be a major part of everything. so far i only know we are having rice at the reception because it is so important to the culture and im using the flowers somewhere, just dont know where yet. i was thinking about bridesmaids and MOH dresses similar to those in laos. i think im going to do some more research on the culture and then post it here so maybe someone can give me some ideas on how to incorporate it into the star theme.
so i have done a lot of research about customs and everything. i have found things to do during the ceremony itself but am having trouble finding things i could do to incorporate it into the reception. they have a lot of candles so im going to use those which will fit perfectly into the star theme. i was thinking about making my own lanterns (i need to find a way to though out of tissue and construction paper or something) and then putting shooting stars in the bottom left corner of all the sides and then the laos symbol? for love in the top right corner. any other suggestions?
maybe you could do concelations that would be seen over Lao during the time of your wedding. if you're wanting to use paper lanterns, look online at oriental trading, or there's ABC, both are a teachers lifesaver when it comes to decorations for classrooms for cheap. you might be able to find what you're looking for there, without the hastle of making it yourself.
if worst comes to worst i will look there for them. thanks for the ideas on where to get them! i so prefer to make things myself just for the fact it is way more unique then buying things. and i doubt i could find paper lanterns exactly the way that i wanted. i think im going to do shooting stars in the bottom left corner and the laos symbol for love in the top right corner on the invites, too. now, what am i going to do for centerpieces and other things on the table...
