Ugly metal chair solutions...

Brittany, on February 22, 2012 at 9:55 PM Posted in Planning 0 12

Aside from chair covers (which cost at LEAST $1 per chair) or rentals which cost around the same, have any of you brides found a cheaper way to deal the the problem of unsightly metal chairs? The ones at my reception place are brown and UGLY. Any suggestions should help, TIA.

I know the ones in the picture aren't metal, but it's something you can still do with coloured tulle or something. If that's too much, you could always just tie a ribbon around each of them. Honestly though, if you really hate the way they look, the best way to go is with the chair covers. You might be able to find some on weddingbee or recycledbride or craigslist for cheap...

I know this is my solution for all problems dealing with weddings, but it's so true: food. Food is always your solution. My aunt didn't have chair covers for similar metal chairs and I balked. How could she just let that....that....ickkkkk....hang out like that??? But then the reception came, and guess who gave a crap? No one! Because they were eating! Smiley laugh And honestly, I completely forgot those seats were metal without covers because I was far more busy helping serve the bridal party and making sure our families all got enough to eat. People go to ceremonies for the emotional value; they go to the reception for 30 seconds of "oooooo" then 2 hours of "omnomnomnomnom". And if anyone does ask about the chair covers, hand them a big slice of cake Smiley smile Seriously, this does work. Smiley smile

@Nikki B: reading this made me feel better, LOL, we wont have chair covers (due to budget, we rather go on a HM), but we will have lots of good food. =)

I do agree with Nikki B. However, I wanted chair covers more for my peace of mind because our venue has some serious ugly chairs. I don't want to look at those hideous chairs all night and think to myself "I should have just got the darn chair covers!". I found a lady on craigslist who runs a rental business out of her home and she gave me a great deal on renting our chair covers. She was cheaper than anyone else and her chair covers look brand new. You might check craigslist.

I don't really think there is a nice way to dress up metal chairs besides a chair cover. And if that's not in your budget, then ya gotta go to my default question: "Is the lack of *chair covers* going to be something I regret 10 years later?" If not, then stick to your budget.

Food? Yeah, I'd regret not having that. Cake? Yeah, I'd regret not having that. Alcohol, honeymoon, pictures... yeah I'd regret not having that. It's a good balancing question, imo.

If chair covers can't fit in the budget, don't do it. Nobody will notice, nobody will care.

"OMG, did you see those chair?!!?1 I can't believe they dind't cover them!"

    NOBODY will say that^^^^^^^^, guaranteed.

And come on.....look at my chairs!

    Aren't they Booty-full?

I am having ugly metal chairs. My ceremony is outdoors and 30 minutes long, I refuse to pay the $3 per chair for pretty white ones. like Jamie said nobody is going to care.

I'm renting covers for our reception. I know the guest might not notice but our colors are bright pink and orange and the nasty baby poop green just bugs me. So that was one splurge and it's $3 a chair. It's a lot but I'm happy. However I'm dealing with the ugly lawn chairs at our ceremony site and the fact if more people show I'll have to rent chairs that don't match for $1.25. Our site only has 70 chairs and we're inviting 125 people.

I talked my venue into throwing in the chair covers for free...had I been unsuccessful in getting them free I would have done without....especially since the lights will be dim, I didn't see it as a huge deal

See sissy, I told you! Smiley tongue No one will care about the chairs! Plus people will probably end up hanging their jackets on the backs of them anyway, so even if you spent the money, your pictures will still just be peoples coats on the backs of chairs!

Consider tying a nosegay with some faux flowers and/or lace and ribbons on the back of the chairs. Satin chair covers with bows/sashes are so over done, tacky, and by the end of the night look like a hot mess. Plus they make the room look 10x more crowded because they are so boxy looking. Less and simple is always best. If you can't decide on what to do with the chairs just leave 'em; nobody remembers what the chairs looked like anyway! Best of luck!
