Ugh what am I suppose to do for such a long time! *vent*
I got the invite to my cousin's wedding and I'm so excited to go and support her. But the ceremony starts at 1pm...cocktail hour doesn't start until 5:30pm with dinner at 6! The ceremony and reception are at the same location. We can't even check into our room until 4! I hate that we have to wait forever inbetween! Ladies and Gents please don't do this to your guests!

seriously? I'd be upset! If they're in the same location why is there such a HUGE gap? I'm pretty sure they aren't going to be taking pictures for 4 hours!

I have no idea what they are thinking and we're driving 2 1/2 hours to get there so we can't even go home, top it off we'll have our 2 1/2 year old son with us. I sent out the rsvp saying yes and then went back to read the times and was shocked lol.

Maybe they will allow you check into your room early. As long as the room is cleaned and ready, they shouldn't give you a hard time. That is, unless they aren't worried about customer service.

And I agree, bring activities!

Oy that's frustrating...

Do you know the area? Are there fun things to see around there?

**JUST THOUGHT OF THIS IDEA**

You should talk to the hotel you'll be staying at and let them know that you'll be staying for a wedding. They may let you check in earlier. The hotel that some of my guests are staying at is allowing mine to check in before the ceremony (which starts at 2pm) so that they can get ready, etc. in their rooms instead of getting ready at home and driving 2 hours in their wedding outfit.

If they can't let you in early, at least you should be able to check your bags in and pick up the key later.

Well that's a dissapointing combo, hopefully the hotel will accomodate guests and let you check in early, personally I'd prefer to be settled in the room pre-ceremony vs leaving all the stuff in the car. Kind of cruddy timing.

Maybe there's a kid play place in the area you can hang out at for a few hours (in your wedding finery...)?

I didn't think about asking to check in early but I will be doing that. They mentioned there's a water park in the hotel but you have to pay quite a bit extra for tickets plus swimming is the last thing I'll want to do after I'm dressed up for a wedding. I don't know the area at all so I have no clue what's around. I'm hoping we'll be able to check in early cause our son naps around 2. I think it really gets to me cause we're also paying crazy prices (even discounted) for the hotel. It seems like they didn't think about the guests at all while planning this. I feel bad about our gap, ceremony at 2:30 and cocktail starts at 4:30 dinner at 5:30, but after going to her wedding I think my family will think our gap is a breeze lol.

I agree about early check in. I would take a nap in the room then get up to party all night.

My wedding is at 3:00 and the Reception starts at 6:00, and they are in the same place. However, the lodge is smack dap in the middle of all the tourist actractions, and, there's a bar. Open bar will not start until the reception, but they are more than able to purchase drinks if they wish. But, I can see where you're coming from. Maybe they will have something planned to do in between that time.

Cyndi you got me thinking that I assumed my guests would just check in to the hotel, have the shuttle pick them up and never really considered the actual check in time!

I just checked and one hotel has a check in time of 4:30 M-F and 6 on the weekends! The other doesn't actually have times listed so I just emailed them to find out what check in / check out time they offer. Many of my guests are driving up Saturday for our 5 PM wedding so a 6 PM check in will obviously not work!

Oh my goodness thanks so much for this post!

Also, I must add that an early check in may be more money.

Honestly, I'd skip the ceremony and just hit the rehearsahl. Especially working around a 2.5 hour drive, 2yo nap time, and hotel check in time.

I bet they have a lot of guests who do this.

You could see if they have a back up plan. My cousin had an 11am wedding and evening reception. There was already a 2pm wedding, so 11am was the option. We all went to my uncle's house who had food and beer for us. We hung out there.

I don't even know what could have possibly been the logic behind this...
