The Garter Toss
Hello everyone! =)
Just wondering if anyone can think, or have heard, of alternatives to the garter toss. I get embarassed easily, lol. Thank you in advance!

We skipped on the garter and bouquet toss. We were an older group and it just did not seem appropriate for our crowd. One alternative I was considering in the early stages of planning was walking around with a basket of garters to hand to the gentlemen while the groom would hand out roses to the ladies. The idea was scrapped due to our time line. That way eveyone gets a garter and a flower. Maybe someone else will be able to chime in with a great idea for you. Good luck and Have Fun!

I suggest right before the garter toss was to happen, go use the restroom and pull your garter down to your ankle so that way it won't be as embarrassing.

Increasingly popular (at least at weddings I've attended recently) is no garter toss AT ALL. No explanation needed. There's no reason for you to be embarassed on your day. Also consider this for the bridal bouquet: Instead of tossing, present it to the couple in attendance who've been married the longest. It's a sweet sentiment, and definitely something guests remember because it's different than the norm.

Skip the garter toss, its not a rule that you have to do it. replace it with something fun! Maybe play musical chairs with the wedding party! Do the dollar dance, dont make yourself, uncomfortable on your day

You definitely should not do anything that makes you embarrased on your day! It is becoming more and more popular not to do the garter toss or to have a more tasteful alternative.

When I was in college I did study abroad in Finland, and they had a tradition I've seen a few times in the States. The single women form a circle around the bride, who has been blindfolded. The bride turns slowly in one direction and the women, holding hands, turn in a circle in the opposite direction. The single women's circle stops and the bride reaches out and hands her bouquet to the woman facing her. Then they do the same with the groom, the garter and the single men, but the garter was not taken off in public.

Hope this helps!

Just don't do the toss. You don't have to. Many brides that I serve only want to wear something special that ONLY THEIR NEW HUSBAND will see. or they will somtimes do a fun one for him to keep as a momento of the day.

But by far many of my brides do not do the garter toss.

One option that was done at a recent wedding I attended was for the bride and groom to do the garter thing - but she kept the garter low on her leg and then he wore it on his arm when he was done. They didn't do any toss of the bouquet or garter afterward. It was nice and noone cared either way.

Also I have heard of the garter and bouquet being presented to the longest married couple at the wedding. as a way of honoring them. So there are a few twists to this tradition that may work....

Good luck with what ever you choose to do.
