Shoot me!
Hello everyone! My wedding isn't until next year, but I am having a hard time finding a ceremony/reception site that is affordable. My fiance and I are paying for everything ourselves, so we really have to stick to our budget. I am also planning everything myself, so I'm starting early. We would like to have the wedding in the Mobile,AL area so that both of our families can attend.(his family is in southern Mississippi/Louisiana and mine is in northern Alabama/Georgia so Mobile is sort of in between) The problem is that with a limited budget, it's very difficult to find somewhere to have a beautiful wedding without all the costs. Any advice?

I've been all over the alabamaweddings site, but most of those places, while nice, are still really expensive....thanks though

Is there a state park or anything like that in the area? Sometimes you can find amazingly beautiful open areas that you might be able to use(check out affordable tents too). How many guests?

I am having a small family ceremony in a park in my home town. There is a place where two beautiful wooden staircases come together and form a good sized platform. It will fit our 30 family members perfectly(as long as it doesn't rain)...maybe you can find something unusual but unique and pretty.

Good luck!!

Hi! I'm not shy....my budget is $6,000. We will probably end up with 40-50 guests. The biggest thing about us is that we are spending over 2,000 on the rings because those are what you really keep forever. I don't see the point in spending so much on some of the other stuff aside from pictures for just one day.

If you don't want a big elaborate wedding, maybe you could find a restaurant with a party room to rent and have your reception there.

Here are some very beautiful venues with affordable pricing that I think can accomdate your wedding size. You will just need to check availability.
I also pasted a directory with additional venues. I think you will be able to find something from this list. Good Luck and Congratulations! You have plenty of time.

You might want to consider checking out the local VFW, American Legion, Elks, Knights of Columbus, and similar service organizations. Many of them have halls they rent out even if you're not a member. Even better, a lot of them cater the functions there as well, often at extremely affordable rates, since so much of the work is done by volunteers.

Here's another thought. Try e-mailing a number of local vendors such as photographers, videographers, musicians, florists, etc. Ask them for recommendations. Tell them your budget. The quality vendors will give you the information without a heavy sales pitch. In the process you might find some other vendors you'd like to work with, that are willing to put quality service above personal gain. If you do this, make sure to use a throw away e-mail address so you can easily ignore those that only care about making money off you rather than being truely helpful.

You can totally do a nice wedding for 50 on your budget. It's going to mean a lot of DIY on your part, though. May I please reccomend, however, that you don't scrimp on linens and other rentals. I went to a wedding a few weekends ago that used plastic tablecloths, metal folding chairs, and styrofoam and plactic plates and untensils. More than likely you can find a place at a decent cost that has all of those things already. Good luck! By the way, do you have a theme or colors that you are working with? I think the suggestion of having it in the party room of a nice restaurant is a good one.

Have you thought of having a Saturday or Sunday morning wedding with a nice brunch as your reception? A friend of mine had a champagne brunch on a Saturday. It was a lovely wedding and food and alcohol costs were kept to a minimum!
