Save the Date ...

Hi Ladies,
I know this may have been asked plenty of times but I wanted to know is it to early to send save the date reminders in September. We are not getting married until Sept. 2010 but I read somewhere that a year out is good espcially being that it will be on the 4th which is a holiday weekend?
Also have anyone done there own save the dates or know of any really cheap places I can order. We have maybe over 400 people to send them to.
Thanks!

I was given a bat mitsvah save the date 2 years in advance. If you wanna send them out now, go for it! Higher success rate that way. PS they were refridgerator magnets. I'm totally doing that! ^_^

I don't think a year is too early. I've heard that 9 months to a year is ideal, esp. for holidays! You'll preempt all the excuses about people making their holiday plans before they heard from you!
We make our own save the dates on the computer, using a photo and then text next to it, postcard style. We did it on vistaprint.com (we used the option to upload our own image). They have periodic sales where certain items were free, so we got 100 postcards for the price of shipping (I think plus the price of having color back sides). Total was under $25 and we still get compliments on them, and have other engaged people wanting to know who designed them for us, lol. Their quality was good - I was very satisfied with their service. The only complaint I have is that the font looked bigger on my computer screen - I would have made it all one font size bigger than what I ordered. I'll try to post a picture on my board.
Good luck, and congrats!

We ordered our Save the Date cards from www.Vistaprint.com and actually received them on yesterday. They are very nice and were really cheap. I think its your personal preference as to when you want your cards to go out. I think the more far in advance, especially for out of town guests. The better it be to allow them planning time and to save money to be able to make the trip. My cards will go out September 1st and our wedding is May of next year.

I think up to about year in advance is fine.

I used MagnetStreetWeddings.com, we only have 125 guests so we only had to send out about 50 magnets so it was very affordable for us but I don't know if it would be for 400 guests.

I ordered my save the date magnets from Magnetstreet.com and just got them from UPS yesterday. I LOVE them! They were fairly cheap, and if you are a facebook member, there is a 10% off coupon code you can get (watch the side advertisements on facebook). I used it and for 125 save the dates, it cost me $120. Each magnet gets cheaper the more you buy, and I think the magnet idea is a good one if you're considering sending them early. You can design everything about your magnets right on their website, and also see a proof right away when you order. Envelopes to mail them in are included, and I think they threw in 5 free magnets!

Send them out as soon as you can.
You start building excitement about your wedding and with the many other things you will have to do it will be one less thing.
You can also gauge the amount of guests that will be hopefully coming.

I think a year to 9 months is perfect for a wedding that takes place over a holiday weekend so they can plan ahead. Best of luck!

I think a year out is great timing. I'm working on mine now and I came across this site called http://www.pingg.com
They let you create virtual evites but you can choose to have some of them printed ($1.50 ea) and mailed. My fiance and I loved this concept because we can have the printed ones sent to family and then send the virtual ones to our college friends that are more vitual savvy. Our guest list is about 200 so this helped with our budget.
