Really want Hydreangeas for my bouquet but...FLORIST HELP!

I really wanted hydreangeas for my bouquet, but I heard that they brown and wilt super fast, and I am getting married in August, when it can get rather hot, does anyone know of a flower that looks like a hydreangea? I don't want to use fake ones, and do they really wilt that fast? HELP!

I actually just got a fall flower bouquet with hydrangeas in it last week and within a couple days they were wilting pretty bad. Now I have heard there are tricks to making them last longer...I just read an article the other day let me see if I can find it...but your florist should know how...going to look

My florist told me just the opposite....I had them in my boquet and they were fine, but it was also cold...

Enjoy them even longer...
snip flowers when stems are the firmest (during the coldest part of the day..early morning or late evening) and where they are the strongest (at the woody stem NOT the green stock (this part is if you are cutting them fresh)
Increase the hydrangeas water absorption by slicing each stem at a 45 degree angle and piercing the bottom with a straight pin then plunge each stock into boiling water for 30 seconds this helps prevent air bubbles and softens the sticky sap inside the stalk that can halt water flow
remove from hot water then place in a vase of room temperature water and your blooms are ready to be arranged
hope this helps

Depending on how prominent the hydrangeas are in your bouquet you could get some nice silk ones and then add all the rest as fresh flowers.

I will suggest on not using them. They love water and without water they don't last. Your best bet is using white stock. It will give you the same lace-like quality when you bundle them up, they will last longer and they will smell nice.

I use silk hydrangeas all the time. They look great and last forever! And, they come in every color in nature as well as some that just can't be matched in nature. I spend a lot of time with fabric swatches and silk flowers mixing and matching.

They will be fine and hold up, providing they are conditioned and refridgerated up until the wedding photos,
Always place them back in a vase complete with flower food , when not in use..I always deliver my handied bouquets in vases for this purpose...
If Stock is not conditioned right it too will brown.....Besides that,
Stock will sometimes bloom spindle-like (Not enough blooms on top..The bouquet then looks too vertical...Not the look you would want to achieve ,if your first pick is the Ball-like Bloom of the Hydrangea..
Have fun,
glenine

Ask your florist to create a hidden water source for the bouquet so it won't wilt when taken out of a vase. This can be easily done and will ensure that your bouquet stays beautiful all day.

I would have to agree with Flowers by Nine in regards to Stock. It can actually look much worse than Hydrangeas, and even as a florist there is no guarantee on the quality. I've had it come in looking horrible and had to alternate or look elsewhere for the same item. I've really not had any complaints from my brides about Hydrangeas not holding up. In fact, my June bride told me that her bouquets lasted for weeks after the outdoor wedding, and it was warm in SC that day! Again, it's important to keep them hydrated at all times possible, so keep a vase handy and when you're not needing them for pictures place them in the vase, and the less man-handling the better as well! I say go for it! :)
Congratulations!

if hydrangea is your favorite flower and what you want, then by all means, have hydrangea! your florist will know how to be sure it's well hydrated, and you just should be sure to s keep a vase nearby, as you'll want to with quite a few other flowers that may wilt in summer heat if there's time between the photos and the ceremony. and, though stock can appeasr similar to hydrangea, it's a very different shape. ask your florist for more ideas/suggestions. hydrangea are very much 'in season' in the summer!

I am a floral Designer and I use hydrangeas all the time in my bouquets. I make sure they are ultra fresh when I order them from the wholesaler did them in a chemical that will make them drink and keep them hydrated until just before the wedding. You really shouldn't have any problems. The ones that people cut out their yards are hard to keep from wilting, because there is definitely a correct time to cut them and also to process them. If you love them, they are available year round from different suppliers.
