Programs
How many of you are going to do programs? I can not remember one wedding that I have been to where I have recieved a program. So I am considering not doing them to save money.

I'm not sure if I'm doing them either. I haven't been to any weddings that gave out programs either. Budget is tight so I may opt out of doing them. If it's really not in your budget maybe you should consider not doing them. :)

I wasn't going to do them but I ended up having tons of extra black cardstock from my invitations. I thought maybe I could use it by doing some programs or something like that. But I haven't decided yet. Just hate to think it will go to waste.

You can do it REALLY cheaply but it may not be worth it. I used a couple at Michaels and bought one packet for $10 with 100 programs in it. You really only need one program per couple. The value of having them is to list the names of important people (e.g., parents, BMs, GMs, FG, RB, etc), share the titles of music that's playing or poems/Scriptures being read, and to give the general order of the ceremony so people know what to expect. The shorter the ceremony the less important I think. We even have a thank you to our guests on the back along with the address of our home together and directions to the reception site. Fairly easy to make, definately cheap to make, and can provide useful info.

sorry, Michael's COUPON (I usually reread before hitting send)
I'm using some of the extra programs (since I don't need 100 for 100 guests) as table numbers at the reception.

I think I can do without them, I am definately going to have to do menu's. The ceremony is only about 10 - 15 minutes long, my cousin is a pastor and he doing the ceremony. I think it could be nice to have a program to make sure he gets recognition, if nothing else. A friend of mine told me she could create the program for me and then have a printer she knows print them for 70 cents each.

Programs are a nice touch, even for a short ceremony. I think ours approached the land speed record for a formal ceremony at 12 minutes! But the guests appreciated knowing who was who and what the readings and musical selections were. We also put a thank-you to everyone, and a request that people refrain from flash photography during the ceremony. They must have read the programs, because no one used their flashes! You can do programs cheaply without them looking cheap, just keep it simple. Ours were printed 2-sided on 8.5x11" paper and folded. We just got black and white copies at Kinkos, I think it was only around $20 and that included the paper and the folding. They looked quite nice.

We arent doing individual programs. Instead I am having a board printed up and framed that will have a large program on it and the menu for the evening since its a buffet style. We only have about 60 people coming and it seems like such a waste of paper making so many programs when no one will ever look at them again.

I am not doing them. Our cermony is going to be outside, no longer than 20 minutes with a small bridal party. I dont see the need. I did have them in my first wedding, but it was a formal church service. Some people like them to list the names of the people in the wedding (i.e. readers, bridal party, musicians, etc.)

I think they can be a cute touch but if you are trying to save money I think it's one of the first things not to spend any cash on. It's not a necessity most of the time.

70 cents each sounds like a lot. If you don't use your own printer you can go to Kinkos and do black and white copies for something like 10 cents each. I'm skipping the personal menus and just having one per table.

My mom and I were just discussing this. Since we have a small wedding (approx. 60ppl) I didn't thhnk they were necessary however, since our wedding ceremony is a non-traditional (modified handfasting with our own touches) we thought a bit of an explaination might make following the flow alil easier. My mom personally wants the ceremony printed on something pretty that can be framed with a photo of the two of us, so thinking of doing them kind of in lieu of favors.

i didnt plan on doing programs but decided to do them since im having a destination wedding....Ireland next May...and alot people from the US are coming and i want everyone to be able to follow. Our ceremony will be held in a church and from what I have found out thus far our ceremony will be at least 30 to 45 minutes in length. I dont want guests to be confused or not know whats happening. we are having a few scriptures being read as well as music through out. If it fits with your theme and style go for it....if you feel its not necessary to your special day based on the length of your ceremony then its fine not to have them. I dont think its expected.

*Future Mrs. Myles, Ireland, how exciting! That would be a dream come true for me! Congrats!
We are using programs, just as a keepsake for anyone who wants one. We're doing them ourselves to keep the cost down.
