Organza Dress Bustle Trouble

Suzannah, on May 5, 2012 at 10:54 PM Posted in Wedding Attire 0 11

I am seeking advice on how to fix a dress bustle flaw. The dress has a sheer organza fabric overlay which is bustled with 11 pearl buttons (see picture). The problem is that when bustled, the loops it creates stick way up & out creating an ugly boxy shape on my bottom! Is there a way to smooth these down, or tuck them in without using pins or something that will show? Thanks to anyone who can help!!

Are the pearl buttons the same distance apart? In this pic it appears like they aren't? That might be part of the problem.

I think it's the way it's bustled and type of bustle. Even evenly spaced it sticks out like pictured below. Did you have the seamstress pin it so you could see what it would look like before you had the bustle put in?

Yes, she did show me the bustle style by pinning it, and I guess I didn't think it looked bad then. I think the picture posted after mine is a satin material, and looks like it lays more flat because it's heavier fabric. Mine is so light it just sticks straight out. Smiley sad Is there another style of bustle for a ball gown with a train? Can a bustle be re-done?

This is something I see on tv a lot. Your bustle parts that are sticking out just need folded and tucked in . You should have been shown how to do it at your fitting.

Can you skip every other button? How would that look?

I see what you mean, the fabric is not behaving. Can you take it back to your seamstress and ask if she can help it?

I think I may take it back and see if another form of bustle is possible.. but I'm not sure with all the fabric on the train. I really love the bustles that hook just a few loops right into the center.

I spoke with my seamstress who said there is no way to do a different bustle style on my dress because there is too much fabric... back to square one! Does anyone know tips for smoothing down such sheer organza fabric, so it actually stays put?

Thanks to all you ladies who gave me advice on this.. I found an awesome seamstress who is re-doing my bustle into an under bustle style. The original lady said it wasn't possible to do a different style, we proved you wrong! Here's some pics of the new bustle. My advice to anyone is don't let people tell you certain alterations are not possible until you get all the facts. Some of them out there are just too lazy to help!
