NWR, Set a Date
Ok, ladies I have been a smoker for over 30 yrs. A bad habit I wish on no one. I have set 11/24/09 as my quit date. With the help of medication I am going to beat this battle. I have tried to quit b4 but with no luck. This time I am determined to quit. It is my granddaughter's first birthday. That is why I chose this date. She has stopped breathing on us a few times having been rushed to the hospital. i would not be able to forgive my self if this in any way has been caused by the smell of smoke in my home. So as of today my home is a no=smoking zone.
Please pray for me and keep me in your prayers. I am a strong believer in prayers. At least one of you knows why. Lets just say he has been good to me.

Hi Nova, you can message me anytime to talk :) I'll be your smoker buddy, why? Because I smoked for 31 yrs. I have quit:) I was prescribed Chantix and loved it, it helped a great deal for me. I had a heart attack at the age of 39. I have Coronary Artery Disease. I also have severe bullae on my lungs, COPD due to Emphysema. It sucks! I can't do what I used to obviously. I was told to quit or die basically. I know what it is like. I understand how hard. I will definitely will be praying for you hon. Stay positive and stay away from smoke and cigs all you can. After a few weeks, trust me, the smell of a cig is disgusting! lol It took me a cpl months until my brain didn't care one bit about cigs. You CAN do it but you really and truly need to want to. I was ready, I had enough of the coughing, the smell and lack of breath. Once I was truly ready, I can honestly say it was easier to do than other times. The other times, I said I was ready but truly wasn't. The cravings ate me alive Cont..

Good luck and thoughts and prayers with you during this battle. You can succeed! I know this doesn't really compare, but I quit smoking after 7 yrs (started really really young) . Sometimes its still weird for me to think that I don't smoke, but I am so glad I don't! No more having to get up for no other reason than a smoke break, no more having all my stuff smell like smoke, no more driving people crazy w/my smoking (FH never smoked and he hated it) You will feel so much better and be so proud of yourself once you defeat smoking.

Well ladies I have made it through my first day. i am pleased to announce that I have had no cravings for a cigarette at all. I have even had the pleasure of breaking up a pack of cigarettes I bought yesterday morning. What has amazed me the most is the fact that I don't even miss them.
HOORAY!!!!!FOR ME!!!!

Hooray Nova!!!

I help provide smoking cessation to many patients!Try and stay positive through all of this and always try to keep your granddaughter in the back of your mind!

Alot of my patients have had tricks to help get them through there cravings in the first few weeks, sugar free gum, sugar free candy, toothpicks, carrot sticks, celery sticks. I had one pt who would smoke the majority of cigarettes in the morning when waking up, so to break that habit he began going to the gym when waking up. Alot of it is mind over matter. Try switching things up, like if you drink coffee, switch to tea, if you like water, try doing flavored water, and when drinking anything, try holding the can/cup/bottle in the hand that you use to hold your cigarette in - little mind game that many of my patients say truly works - unless you are ambidextrous!

way to go nova!!! My father is 65, been smoking for well over 47 years... he's been a very hard working which in his mind made him smoke close to 5 packs a day (15 yrs ago) but got down to 2-3 packs which is still ALOT.. recently went to 1-2 packs and now with him having all this trouble breathing and a form of clots in his lungs he has to quit cold turkey. he's now on the patch and still gets cravings. It's very hard. I wish you the best of luck.
When my neice was born and had restpetory (sp) problems, my sister's house became smoke free. My BIL still smokes but outside and I'm sure he slows down in the winter cuz of freezing ehehe..
You can do it.. with your heart set on your granddaughter, and your futrure life together another 30rs with less coughing, less colds.. you will feel GREAT..
best of luck..
I mentioned litecigusa.net elsewhere, feel free to contact me about that or check out the site..

Nova- Keep us updated on how its going. My husband and I have appointments to get chantix ourselves. I know I will only be able to quit if he does too, and neither one of us wants to be smoking when we start thinking about kids. My mother has been a smoker for over 30 years with no real desire to quit. I applaud your efforts.....YOU CAN DO IT!! Especially with great inspiration like a grandbaby.
