Monogrammed tank tops - Good or bad for getting ready/hair done?

r & b, on January 26, 2015 at 10:32 AM Posted in Wedding Attire 0 17

I am wanting to get monogrammed tank tops for me and my bridesmaids to wear the morning of the wedding while we are getting ready. Several of them are into fitness/running so I know they will wear them again. My question is - how hard is it to get a semi-loose tank over your head once your hair is done? I've always worn a button down to get ready but i know my girls probably won't wear them as much. Has anyone else had experience with this?

I've been in quite a few weddings and they have always given us something to get ready in. I've gotten a tube top type dress that you can just slide off, a robe, and the button downs. I've been in one wedding where we wore whatever. Everyone except one girl wore something that was easy to get off and she ended up ripping half of her hair down. I think it definitely can be done, but I just don't want to take any chances.

Well, I for one would totally wear it again! Monogrammed things are huge right now.

I think you'd have to be really careful getting it over your hair though...maybe if it was really loose?

You can always take it down around your shoulders off that way! Especially if your girls like to run it doesn't sound like they have big bellies to get in the way of that haha

Mrs. Cheapskate- lots of people love monograms (just look around etsy). Don't just make a blanket statement assuming what you like or don't like is the same for everyone.

Thanks ladies! I also like the idea of the dress that they can slide off - maybe I can find one that could double as a swimsuit cover up or something.

I can and do have my opinion. Maybe you should pick them up on craigslist or ebay. There are tons of them on there for cheap.

You should confirm that they want something like this...Just don't have them say bridesmaid, or Mrs.Cheapskate is completely correct in saying they won't wear them again

I would prefer to wear a button-up, honestly.

I'm making my girls sweatshirts that I cut the neck out of, 80s-style. Should have plenty of room to get heads out. Of course, I'm not sure if that would work for a May wedding. Tank tops should be okay-- couldn't they always take them off by pulling them down and stepping out?

The swimsuit coverup idea is really cute too! I don't get why people think no one would wear them again. Just because YOU won't doesn't mean no one else will. I agree people may not wear them if they have "bridesmaid" plastered across the front, but that is not what is being suggested. To each their own. If you don't want to give them to your girls, don't...but just because you have an opinion doesn't mean it adds any value. That wasn't at all what the OP asked advice on.

I agree-- the swimsuit coverup is definitely something I would wear again (and I am also a runner), but you know your BMs best.

I wear the dress as a bathing suit cover-up still. I looked on etsy and searched for "strapless T-shirt dress" and a whole bunch of stuff popped up. A lot of them look like game day dresses, but I bet you can send in T-shirts for them to make it out of.

I made tank tops for my bm and myself. I got them over-sized and I tried them on to make sure i could take it off by sliding it down over my hips not over my head. I also know they may not wear them again so if they get stretched out it isn't a huge deal. The tanks cost me about $20 total for 4, I not considering it part of their gift just something fun for us to wear to the bachelorette and getting ready.

As a girl who has done pageants and needed to have something casual to get ready in(hair and make-up etc), a zipper cotton jacket or button down is much easier for not messing up hair and make-up. Even a romper you step in is easy, also swimsuit cover up tube dress is nice too.

I think if you got one with raw edges it would be no issue getting it over your head without messing up your hair!

It seriously irritates me when people say "they won't wear them again." you don't know the OP's friends...she has already stated they WILL wear them again. that was not the freaking question. and if she's buying them then who the frick really cares that much? people are SO ridiculous about these damn gifts that have to do with the wedding. IT'S FOR THE WEDDING.

ANYWAYS...to the question...i don't think it would be too hard to get them over your head for when getting ready. it's a cute idea and it's nice of you to get them for them!

I just freaked out when I read this. I just bought myself a bride tank top and had a heart attack moment of messing up my hair. So, I ran and tested it. My tank fits nicely but not super tight when on. I can slip the straps down and shimmy out of it rather than pulling it over my head. So, I guess that would be the recommendation. Not too tight. so you can shimmy. :o)
