Mason Jars and Straw Bales

Ashley, on May 3, 2012 at 1:32 PM Posted in Do It Yourself 0 16

Hey guys i just recently got engaged and have a ton of ideas flowing.

I really like the idea of an outdoor wedding and was thinking of using straw bales for seating ang then maybe using mason jars for the guests to drink out off at the reception then they can take them home as a sovunier. Also i really like the ideas of using mason jars for centerpieces.. Any ideas or opinions are welcome! Thanks!

I'm definitely incorporating mason jars into my decorating (I am doing and outdoor rustic wedding as well Smiley smile ) I dunno about the hay bales for seating if you have any older guests or guests with knee/back problems, but it's a cute idea!

Not sure what your colors are but if you have a Old Time Pottery around you they had colored mason jars there. I believe they had purple, blue and pink. I would have loved to buy the purples one but I had already gathered up all the ones I needed.

Welcome to WW. Great idea. Instead of using all hay bales, use just a few to serve as benches. Sitting on hay may be uncomfortable for some but fun for others.

Just a suggestion, I noticed you were considering hay bales, and mason jars and you also posted you were thinking camo and pink. That is going to be too busy. I think maybe you should find a medium between the two and start putting pictures together. If you want hay bales and mason jars, Rustic is the way to go. Burlap & twine will add a very nice touch to it. Pale Yellow, light green, whites, browns, oranges will all look wonderful.

Hi Ashley ~ Welcome to WW

That can be very fun. If you do camo, I would have it Very minimal. Some ribbon touches here and there. It will pop more if you just have it in small sections instead of giant areas.

Get your budget figured out and plug it into the budget tool here under "my wedding" It will help you stay on track with your spending.

    Congrats

If it is at someone's house, maybe there is some furniture you can set up outside for the gift table and for drinks and such...

Ashley -- First, congratulations on your engagement. Second, your idea is a good one, and our band performed a couple of years ago at a reception very similar to what you're describing. Most of our events are in country clubs or hotels, but this one was in the middle of a field at a farm in rural Missouri. They had a big tent set up, and they had hay bales outside the tent for seating (among other seating options).

Not only did they use Mason jars as centerpieces, but their family was known for making a special variety of apple butter. They included apple butter in all the centerpieces and allowed the guests to take them home as gifts.

It was a very personalized wedding reception that we (and I'm sure our clients' guests) will always remember. We haven't seen another wedding quite like it, so I'm sure that it will be a unique experience for your guests too if you end up taking this approach.

    Good luck.
