makeup and stuff

So, I have over a year before my wedding, but I'm the type that wants to know how everything is going to look now, because I'm just so excited! I already have my dress, veil, and tiara. Trying to grow my hair as long as possible for that, so I'm *trying* to not think about that... but I'm worried about makeup. I don't wear it often, and when I do, it's minimal and plain. Most of my bms don't wear makeup, or wear it a lot differently than I do. I want to get good at it way before the wedding, so I'm not nervous about it. Any ideas on where to go to learn a good way to do it? Or a place where someone can do it for me without breaking the bank? I live in Ct. sorry for the long post for a simple question!

Well, to keep things on the cheaper side, pick up your basic make-up needs:
Make Up Primer..I swear by this stuff!! Out of all my make-up, this is the only thing not from a drug store, It is make-up primer from Arbonne Int'l. Works wonders! smoothes skin, fine lines, and pores!
Concealer: Great for dark circles and discoloration, I have very uneven toned skin, and dark circles, I put it on the inside of my eyes wher they get dark, around the outside nostrils where I get red, and around my parts of my mouth/chin where for some reason it's discolored..and I lied..my concealer is from sephora..Laura Mercier Undercover pot..swear by it! Won't by any other concealer!! I reccomended using a small concealer brush, putting a bunch on the brush, then just swipe it back and forth on your hand, the heat from your hand will help the conclealer go on smoother!!
Foundation: This can be liquid or powder, I perfer powder in the summer, and liquid in the winter.. con't

The color of your foundation will be diffrent in the summer than winter..so keep that im mind..
Mascara..Water proof ofcourse! I have a plastic eyelash curler that I heat up with the blow dryer then curl my lashes..works great..I like to do a couple extra sweeps at the top outer corner of may lashes
Blush...I haven't experimented yet with the tinit kind..but I'm going too! I believe it lasts longer than powder blush..
Eye liner..Oh it toook my forver to nail eye liner, I use a pencil make little dashes along the lash line then take a q-tip and smudge it..that way I have eyeliner to define..but not a big thick line!
I just now realized you wanted some place for tutorials..not a make-up lecture..lol but oh well..heres Info for anyone that wants it!
From my understanding, YouTube has videos, check them out and give that a try, if your still unsure, Head to Mac or Sephora, they would be more than happy to give you a lesson!! GOOD LUCK!!

Do not do not do not put on makeup with your hands! Your hands carry all kinds of germs and using your hands to put on makeup will only transfer the germs to your face and cause breakouts. Believe me, I've experienced this. Get the cosmetic wedges and use those for your concealer. It spreads so much more evenly than with your hands and it catches any excess you might leave on your face.

try some u-tube vidios to get started and as things get closer go to a salon for a makeup leasson and explain the venue, the dress style and the lighting and they can recommend the best way to do your makeup. Take lots of pictures with your makeup on to see how it looks. If you still dont like it, go back to the place you had the lesson and have it done. Should only be about $40-$60. Good luck.

Oh, and start slow. Dont try to go all out all at once. Start with the foundation and a little tint on the lip then after to get that where you like it start adding some eye makeup and blush. I love natural colors for the eye when just starting and a sheer mineral blush. It just gives you a lightly tinted glow.

Go to Sephora (or any makeup counter in a large dept store) and have them do your makeup for you. Let them do 1/2 your face and you do the other 1/2. Good luck!!

With over a year to practice, you have lots of time to learn how to apply makeup. There is a list of ten good reasons why you should do your own makeup on your wedding day, plus helpful tips and advice on the best ways to practice your wedding makeup on my WW storefront. Good luck!

I agree w/ the future mrs han... if you go to the makeup counters in the dpt stores, they will do it for free provided that you buy one product they use on you. My suggestion? buy the cheapest thing they have that they use on you when they get finished. Go home, look at your face - make sure u like it. If you want them to add somethin else to your look on another day, just rtn the item and re buy the same thing... by the way I have never heard of primer before, I will def try that

Practice and youtube would be helpful. Some products I love- erase paste from Benefit (Sephora), Painterly Paint Pot from MAC (this is really good; its not only a base but helps your eyemakeup not crease). A good foundation-Makeup Forever-sephora. Applying makeup with your fingers (when clean) actually is good-the warmth from them helps foundation go on really nice (or a good foundation brush-wedges absorb the product). If you have any questions feel free to email me ctmakeupartist09@hotmail.com

Thanks for all the tips and ideas! lol, I can't even ask for my mom to help... the only makeup I remember her wearing is bright pink lipstick... I will have to try those sites and definitely the makeup counter thing!

I would suggest going to a makeup counter at the mall and having them do your makeup, they will explain what products they are using and why. You can either get samples of everything they use, or make a purchase. I would not do this until 6 months before the wedding as you do not want to have the makeup sitting for a year or more! (It isn't "good" for the makeup!) You could also invite a Mary Kay consultant to your house, and have your BMs over- They show you exactly how to apply makeup in the comfort of your own home. (Plus as the host you could get free products!) Mary Kay is not SUPER expensive either. Good luck with all of your wedding planning!

Congratulations!
As a makeup artist I can tell you that many artists have studio locations where you can have a makeup lesson and then purchase any products you would need for the big day. For me, there is no charge for the lesson since in most cases your purchase will offset the cost of the lesson. This way you have actual products for your money.....
Many makeup artists like myself offer wedding packages that help make things more affordable....Feel free to to contact me for further information. I also offer free trials to all brides. I can be reached at www.dylanmichaelcosmetics.com if you have any other questions......best of luck:)
