KWR- Flush E-RING DOWN THE TOILET

Jamgirl, on October 24, 2014 at 2:14 PM Posted in Etiquette and Advice 0 31

I was listening to the radio this morning and a guy called in to say that he and his FW got into a huge fight and she flushed the e-ring down the toilet. They had no insurance on it. But what got me is that he says that they are still together.

Ladies, would your FH stay with you if you flushed your e-ring down the toilet? I know that for me we would probably have to have a trial separation or something, lol.

If I flushed my ring down the toilet I don't know what he would do, but I would divorce myself and possibly throw myself off a bridge for being bananas. Lol. Thankfully we have insurance, but really? Really? You can't take something like that back! If you want to make a statement of taking it off, put it somewhere where you can get it back!!!

I lost mine once. We were in NC visiting her sister, and 5 nieces and nephews. I was playing catch with them. I guess when I took my glove off my ring came off somewhere in the yard. I didn't realize it till later that night. Luckily her sister had a friend that had a metal detector that we used to find it! I'm surprised, and glad we found it though I was afraid to tell my fw that I lost it in the first place.

@Kathleen, lol, my sentiments exactly, my FH says that he would take that as a sign that the wedding was off, therefore the relationship would have to end. no way around it.

I would hope FH would break up with me if I did this! That's just crazy.

I agree, she meant that to be permanent. She wasn't trying to say "Hey watch this, I am really pissed at you."

Oh god no.... and I wouldn't blame him. I would NEVER disrespect him in such a way as to throw my rings at him during a fight, flush it down the toilet, etc. I know how much my rings cost... I couldn't flush them intentionally no matter how mad I was!

ETA: You can get your ring out of the drain no problem! That's why drain plumbing has a catch in it! You just have to take apart the piece of PVC that is curved!

Even if I was THAT furious at him, the ring would never go down the toilet. Or anywhere else that it couldn't be retrieved. That just seems immature and disrespectful; regardless of how bad the fight is, he spent time and money on that token of love, and even if I decided he was a jerk and I didn't want to be with him, I would have just given it back!!

@Now I'm Mrs _M, I thought about that too when he was telling the story but I don't think that he was able to get it out, he told the radio station that he's debating whether or not to purchase another one.

That is truly wild. Did he mention what the fight was about? Even if something he did justified that kind of behavior, you'd think the relationship would be pretty much over, no?

I've heard of rings being flushed ACCIDENTALLY, but never on purpose. Crazy.

@ Munashi, he didn't say what the fight was about, the radio host was shocked when he told them that they were still together and he's considering whether or not to purchase another E-Ring.

What a nutter!!! My MO would at least be throw it at the couch. That's what I do to my phone when it angers me.

And yes, FH has seen my irrational anger with poorly functioning technology. The saint still wants to marry me

If I even hurled my ring at him he would take it back, walk out the door. He would have a right to do that, The ring was given with so much love and though (very romantic proposal) it would be like a big FU I don't want you or love you anymore.

    Never

I would NEVER buy that witch a new ring! Why? So she can flush it for a second time? He's stupid!

Oh dear lord.... I think you would have to be a very mean/not very smart person to do that.... Unless it was actually a situation where it was needed, like a shock factor with a fiance that won't let you go

That would be very wrong of him to break up over something like that. Yeah its money wasted.

Im trying to find a way to put this that makes sense

you shouldnt base your love on an inanimate object.

That is bat sh!t crazy!! If it's that bad just leave. I never got those psycho people who destroy their partners things. Just leave! Don't get a criminal record over a failed relationship.

@Jess B, I agree that their love or even relationship shouldn't be based on the ring but I think just the act of flushing the ring is making a statement on it's own. Her flushing the ring signifies to me that she does not value it for what it is, therefore doesn't value the relationship or the eventual marriage.

If I were crazy enough to flush my ring, FH'd be right to break up with me because I wouldn't be myself.
