is this really necessary?

Hi, I just wanted to ask if save the dates were really needed when you are planning a wedding or can you do without them? Thank you!

I'm not doing them... pretty much everyone who is invited to the wedding knows about it by now. Word of mouth works. If you are having a small wedding I wouldn't worry about it, but its all about your preference. If you have out of town guests I would make sure that they are notified through word of mouth, but I don't think STDs are necessary as long as you send our your invites early enough

if it's not a local wedding or over a holiday weekend, then they can be helpful for your guests. But most couples do not need them.

I have decided against them. Its just another cost that I don't need.

I would suggest sending save the date postcards to those who you wish to attend the wedding that are out of town or not very close to your circle of friends/family. That could be 3 or 30. Well worth the small expense, if you want them to attend your nupitals.

Busy weekends (i.e., holidays) and out of towners are good reasons for STDs. Otherwise it's an expense that can be cut. I actually did mine via email so there was no expense.

I posted the same question. Based on the responses, I decided not to send any STDs.

STDs are not strictly necessary. Look at your guest list, it will guide you. If most of your guests are local, or family who already know what you are planning, you can wait for the invites to go out, the 6-8 week standard timeframe should be enough for most folks to make arrangements. As we were inviting people from all over the country we figured they would want a heads-up to be able to arrange to be away from work and such, but we told them in person or by email about 6 months ahead of time and it worked out great. Just be sure you're guest list is firm before you tell anyone the date, whatever method you choose.

I don't think they are necessary. Just let out of town guest know ahead of time maybe via email. I am doing them cheap, creating my own and printing them and mailing out with my x-mas cards to save ob extra postage.

If you want to do some - try vista prints. I bought mine there. Of course it isnt necessary but if you just want some or like to create your own try vista.

I dont think they are necessary at all... they are just a good thing to use to give your guests advance notice and whatnot!!! Totally up to you.
